How do you feel about protagonist deaths in games? While it's common place in books and movies, it hasn't seemed to have caught on in videogames. At first I just thought that this was cowardice on the part of the developers, but after beating a particular game, I was upset to see the fate of the character I had spent so much time with. It's very different to have some hero you've been watching die, then it is to have the character that essentially is partly you (even more then partly depending on the personality or lack thereof of the protagonist), that you've been dutifully controlling, and constantly working against that very fate, only to be bumped off in a cutscene you have no stake in. What are your guys thoughts on the matter, and is this question to long?
