Soul Calibur IV just didn't do it for me.
ExtraSensory | 8:54 PM on 08.01.2008 18 comments

I understand that Soul Calibur is an arcade game. It's not made to be an RPG-style
sit-down-and-build-your-file-for-a-few-hours kind of game. With that said, maybe I was just playing it wrong, but there just doesn't seem to be a whole lot to it.
I didn't play Soul Calibur III. But I played the hell out of II, I probably had around 60 hours logged into that fucker.
I remember in II, you had to be good with a character, and beat their story in the weird adventure mode before you could even think about having Soul Edge as a weapon.
So why is it that when I boot up the game and play through "story mode" (someone explain the difference between story and arcade mode?) as Maxi (yes, I play as Maxi) ONCE, which takes a whole ten minutes, I now have the ability to purchase (for a fairly low price) Soul Edge?

With that aside, the fighting was all excellent. Much better than II. All of the characters looked gorgeous and moved extremely well. I was very impressed with the fighting.
Character customization was meh. Being able to change the pitch of my character's voice doesn't really matter to me when everything he says is either "Verily, the night doth become thine suffering!" or "That sure was easy, I'm a cocky douchebag."

I'll still probably buy it, because I'm still a sucker for Soul Calibur.
I would just like more things to work for in the game. Weapons and such.

Excuse me, allow me to introduce me.

My name is Cameron, you shall all refer to me as Extrasensory from here on out. I used to game all the time, but lately with school, work, and girlfriend, I barely have time anymore.
I can't complain about that too much, I guess. I could be distracted from gaming by worse things, like religion or cancer.
I have five cats living at my house.
I mostly play shooters, but I sometimes fuck around with rhythm games and 2d fighters.
I wish I had a visor like Geordi from Star Trek. That would kick ass.
I also play Pheonix Wright sometimes. Got a problem with that? sue me. I dare you.
So here's to me making time. I'm getting a better laptop this week, and I'm probably picking up UTIII when I get it, along with the anthology (including UT2004). I know I should be finding better things to do with my time, but this is where I feel most comfortable.
I'll update this as often as I can.

 about me

I work at a video game store, and though I tend to hate almost half of the people that walk into the place, I have still retained my love for games. Anybody who can work in a game store for two years and still love video games deserves a gold medal, in my opinion.
I got crazy awesome deals, so I do own all 3 consoles. Not much for computer gaming.
