love Guitar Hero, and I'm totally in love with my copy of Rock Band. I just have one problem, I was brought up with a vast knowledge of music and appreciation for all types of music. Unfortunately for people like me, most rhythm games fail to include some of my favorite songs and or bands. While I find it very cool that the game designers for both game series are trying to be all-inclusive and bring elements from modern music and music from the past together in one game, they sometimes fall flat on their face trying to meet my expectations and the expectations of people like me. I know that I am not the only audiophile in the vast sea of Destructiod readers. There will no doubt be those of you who agree with the songs I post here, and a great deal more of you who won't agree or have never heard the songs I list. Let's get started shall we? Cake -- I Will Survive
Even though the hugely popular cover of Gloria Gaynor's off of the album Fashion Nugget, was a cover, it was a much better song than anything that the disco queen herself could perform. The addition of the word "fucking" made things all that much cooler to my 16 year old mind back in the day. The only problem I can see with including this game with Rock Band or Guitar Hero is the surprising lack of a horn section in the games. Other than that the bass sections and guitar solos are more than adequate for any rhythm game and the awesomely flat but melodic vocals of John McCrea would be a whole lot of fun to do. Besides, everything is better with cake right? Sevendust -- Trust
I don't think there would be anyone on this website who could match the vocals of Lajon Witherspoon, seriously he's one of my favorite vocalists. I find it awesome that the band plays so well together, it seems like every Sevendust album that comes out the group gets tighter and tighter as a unit. I picked this album, Animosity, recently and have been addicted to the beautiful buttery lyrics and amazingly coherent rhythm section composed of Vinnie Hornsby and Morgan Rose, oh the guitars are excellent too. Man, I loves me some Sevendust. Refused -- New Noise
Refused (if you've never heard of them) were a Swedish hardcore/punk group who founded in 1992 but broke up in 1998 right after their final album, The Shape of Punk to Come, was released. Their sound was essentially punk but with some really sharp departures from the punk sound from the "pop punk" groups like blink -182. The vocals are pretty hard to understand at first but once you've got them, they're fucking epic. The guitars are thrashing and the bass and drum sections are just insane. Its hard to believe that there were groups like this doing the "scremo" music way before the 2000s. Pitchshifter -- Whiteout
I got turned on to Pitchshifter by a friend of mine back in the late '90s and the first album from them I bought, Infotainment, was a masterpiece of what the band likes to consider strum & bass (instead of drum & bass). The vocals on this song are slightly growly and hella tough (especially after you listen to their later albums), the drums are all made by a drum machine on the albums but performed live when the group is touring. These guys used to hang with groups like Biohazard and Fear Factory and have been doing this type of music since the early 90's and have done England proud ever since their inception. Grade 8 -- Resurrection
Grade 8's second album, Resurrection, features some of the most fierce lyrics and amazingly bass heavy tracks that I've heard in years. The song in question is likely to make the person trying to sing the song's throat bleed. I'd just love to see the person on drums complain about how many times they had to hit that bass pedal, and all the "ow my calves!" would make me a very sadistic but happy host. The group is virtually unknown so go out and "support" the group and let me know what you think of them. I know, I know, I probably didn't include the group/song that you think would be great, but give me some time, this is just the beginning of a series of many blog posts I'll be continuing to post about songs I'd love to see in Guitar Hero / Rock Band. Who knows, maybe next time, your favorite song will be here. Thanks for reading.

I guess i'm not indie enough.
I'm sorry to offend you with having an opinion that differs your own. I don't see how these groups are "sell out generic rock stuff" they are all very accomplished artists.
Also, don't correct somebody's spelling unless you are absolutely sure that you are correct. See This
It appears that everyone but you is calling it "Rock Band".
Plus....
These bands really are not that good at all like
AT ALL
Also, it could really use something by Electric Six. Maybe Gay Bar, or Rock & Roll Evacuation. Also, Dream Theater. Forsaken is the best metal song evar. And so on.
Also `Black` off of Sevendust's Self-titled album is better then anything off of Animosity times 2.
Cool list, Excremento...I’m not familiar with a few of the bands on here, and I’m not a fan of Sevendust, but as you said, everyone has his or her own opinion about music, and everyone is entitled to an opinion.
I'm breaking my rule about not feeding trolls here, but what songs would YOU want to see in these games? Also, have you listened to any of these groups? What makes them "not that good at all like AT ALL"?
Oh yeah, fuck off Slee. Yes, we know Tom Petty is classic, that doesn't mean you are so much fucking cooler for liking old music than new music.
I said I liked Cake. I never said they were generic however having said that when is that last time you picked up a new cake album??? Not high in demand huh. Case in point their last full studio album was in 04......sure they have released a B-sides and rarities album in 07 but ...come on that's not new stuff....no real lasting power. Hey who knows maybe they will do a come back tour with Smashmouth then you will be a pig in shit!:)
Where did you study music? Do you have a degree in music appreciation? What was your field of study? What demographic do you fit into? Are you from North America? Seriously, I don't hope to make everyone happy with the choices I put on my list. I do however hope you respect the author enough to not belittle his choices in music. I can respect that you don't enjoy my taste in music. I will not respect somebody telling me that songs I enjoy listening to are "generic crappy stuff", "crap music", and "heavy guitar riff stuff."
Please do not comment on any of my futher blogs, I am dis-inviting you to any of my further postings.
never said it did only said they will put that on there before some of the genric rock stuff. Dont tell me you don't think Tom Petty would sell fast and get people excited over the super awesome sevendust set.......come on.
Nope, really, I'm done. I never once belittled your taste in music. I've been extremely nice in trying to reach out and find out your opinion on music. All I've recieved in return is a repeated slam on my taste in music. It's all well and good to have an opinion, but another to not back that said opinion up with a reason.
Be thankful? I don't know about you but I have plenty of Destructoid members "wander" into my blog every single night, so far to the tune of 41,000 hits in less than 4 months.
I just prefer to not ever have you "wander" into my blog ever again. Thank you.
@ Slee-
I'd actually prefer Senor Smoke, or maybe Switzerland. The latest one, which has a name too long to say, isn't that great. There's four really good songs, and the rest are meh.
OMG the cover version of Tom Sawyer is all us mortals could handle, if we got the real deal our heads would have a-sploded.
just to name a few. I never said I didn't like Cake and you need to lighten up for just as I am entitles to my opinion and to express it so are you. I felt your music choices were not that great and that others should have been before it. I expressed that as did many others before me and after me. You choose to have a hissy fit over me because I was more outspoken about it.:) I gave you my music now you can nit pick it to death as I understand that it is easier to sit back and judge but now you actually have soemthing to judge me for but I bet you can't look at that list I just gave you and say that a lot of that music is complete shit. I would venture to gues that you like a lot of those bands on there and that you yourself when given the chance would JUMP at playing some of the songs on there. If I am wrong then I am wrong but DO NOT say I never gave you the chance to see what I listen to. These are groups that would come before CAKE or Sevendust or any other band you had on there. That was my point that there are better choices to really pull for and I can gurantee you that a lot of the ones I listed are coming.
Since you're ignoring everything everyone says, I'll just say this. STFUAJPG
Also, list needs moar Converge.
->Slee: And you were calling his taste in music generic? Yeesh. Get your limbs and genitals burned off in a fire, then die of thirst.
->The world: I'd kill for some tool, mr bungle and sigur rós DLC packs. But it'll probably never happen.
"p.s. these bands should be in guitar queero."
No. You weren't being insulting at all....
Maybe you should try to learn how to not be a jackass.
But as for songs, I'd have to go with Frank Sinatra or Nugget
I didn't read your long-winded rant (is that supposed to be English??), but let me just say this:
If you can't even spell "Led Zeppelin", you have no place in this discussion.
Also, I'm under the impression that Excremento is emphasizing songs most people wouldn't think of right away. Anyone can suggest "Jimmy" (lol) Hendrix, The Beatles, or Zeppelin.
Its gonna be alright buddy.
