Battletoads is a great game to never TURN ON your NES! I fucking that game with a passion! I remember spending so much time saving to buy a game and it ended up being that piece of swine flu covered shit. It was to hard for kids! It was an amazingly fun game till you got the the stage where you're riding that red vacuum cleaner of pure discouragement.
I actually will be doing this with my 360 sometime this summer to get the last 2 Dead Rising achievements.

I'm happy to see this feature again.
Hell yeah, Tino. I was just about to mention Rygar. I enjoyed the game as a kid, but did NOT have the patience to make it all the way through every time.
Clash at Demonhead and Faxanadu look pretty interesting, I never played those games.

EXCREMENTO SIGHTING!
Solid list as usual. Takes me back to trying to beat any of the later levels in Cobra Triangle for NES. That and the final boss of Snake Rattle 'n Roll.

Haha wow. Great fucking blog, and I am WAY on board with Goonies II and Bart vs. Space Mutants. Both games had little direction in terms of how to actually beat them.
"Thankfully when I bought Super Mario All-Stars, it remedied the problem and had a save feature for EACH Mario game on the cart."
please don't tell me that you prefer the SNES version of SMB3 to the NES version. I fucking hated the SNES version, as it replaced some of the original sprites(even though it wasn't needed), the game was totally recolered (to look like a fucking retard brother of SMW), the gameplay lost any sense of speed, and the original 8 bit music was butchered. There's only one way to play SMB3 and i hope you know what it is.
I guess it's okay(not really) if you prefer the SNES version because of the save feature(pussy), but if there are ANY other reasons i will hunt you down and do bad things to you.

I used to have to put things in front of my NES so my parents couldn't see the red light and know it was on. Felix the Cat is my most memorable incident of having to leave the system on all night, if only for how aggravated I got the day after. After leaving it on all night on a Friday, I continued with it Saturday morning. I got all the way to the final boss, (who I always thought was Dr. Wily), and died a few times but had plenty of lives left to keep trying, and I was getting better each time. Anyways, I'm in the middle of trying to defeat this mad scientist when my parents forced me to turn it off to go to a big picnic for families at my dad's navy base. I guarantee I was within minutes of finally beating him, so I was pissed. Being a rental we returned the game at the end of the weekend and I never did beat the damned thing.
Haha, oh man. I remember having to leave my console on when I played Sonic and Knuckles. Now THAT was a bitch.
Also, great to see you again. I missed your old "A Weird Kid's top" blogs. Nice to see you still haven't lost your touch.

@Zombie
Wow! I had the exact same experience with every Mega Man. I had to hide the red light from view from my parents as well. I wonder how many other video game deprived children there are?
In any case, despite their attempts to limit me, they gave up when I hit middle school. Go go gaming!

Faxanadu is still an awesome game. We need a WiiWare remake of that. Falcom has already released Ys on WiiWare, so why not some Xanadu games?
I'm glad to see this come back! I haven't thought about Goonies 2 or Bart vs. the Space Mutants in years- I thought I was the only one that had those games, lol. Great article!
River City Ransom within a year ago, I had to leave it on all night. The dog reset it with her tail and I had to go back and do a lot of stuff over. :(
I remember starting up "The Simpsons: Bart vs The Space Mutants" once.
First thing I saw was the end screen. Strange stuff.
4 days later I completed the game. Started in the morning & finished it in the afternoon. Indeed one of the hardest games to complete.

Can't see the kids trying this with an xbox360.
