Based on what I played last night, at least. Believe me when I tell you, this game is serious business. It may even be the most fun I've had playing a videogame all year, which is saying something, considering it''s only a demo. It's just that great. Let me tell you why:

The first part of the demo starts out in the village area, where the crazy black guy with the megaphone (pictured above) is getting a crowd of more crazy black people excited about the impending execution of some arabian fellow. He had a turban on, so I guess he was arabian. Either way, he quickly finds his head chopped off, at which point the megaphone guy tells everyone you're hiding in a house. Then, shit hits the fan.

Within a moment or two, you're surrounded by multiple black people, which is scary enough as it is. Of course, to make matters worse, they want to murder you at any cost, even their own life. Luckily, the nice folks at Capcom saw fit to equip us with a handgun and shotgun, plus they gave Sheva a handgun of her own in addition to a nice rifle with scope combo. I instantly felt right at home, pushing shelves in front of doors to barricade my partner and I in the house, just like in RE4's village sequence. Of course, in that game they didn't break through the roof of the house and didn't carry huge axes, but you get the idea.

Here's the difference: The amount of enemies seems to have been tripled, perhaps even quadrupled! Now, I know some people have been saying the game is too difficult for them, but I really don't know what they're talking about. Yes, the Dead Space style "real time" inventory is somewhat difficult to get accustomed to, but you also have Sheva helping out, shooting motherfuckers in the face and healing you. And when she needs healed, it's simply a matter of pressing a button for an auto heal. Besides this, Chris has more melee moves than Leon ever did. He can uppercut, hook, Falcon punch, and also stomp on a downed enemies head! So what could be so much harder? You guys are wimps. What, the executioner killed you? Run away from him! Then shoot him! Jesus.....

Shotgun motherfuckers! It knocks down multiple enemies!



I personally had a fucking blast killing tons of not-zombies last night. The core gameplay is basically the same as the last game, with a few tweaks here and there which seem to make for an even better experience IMO. Yes, Capcom has designed a true co-op game here, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it in single player. I kicked ass by myself and with my wife in co-op. She was scared shitless, but I made sure we both survived the onslaught.

The second section of the demo seems even more geared towards co-op, but even playing by myself, I didn't have too much trouble. They seem to have slightly gimped the chainsaw guy, cause he ran right past me, constantly just missing me with, you guessed it, the chainsaw. I unfortunately did not get killed by him. I say unfortunately because I would have liked to see Chris' head get chopped off in glorious high definition. I'll have to try that later.

I'm calling it right now: Resident Evil 5 will be the 2009 game of the year.

Really, what else is coming out that could even compete? I am fucking pumped for this game!
