About Me

Hey guys, it's Dan or as everyone here knows me (including you, because you're looking at my blog), EternalDeathSlayer. Yeah, I jacked it from Grandma's Boy, eat me. Anyway, I love video games, but more importantly I also love to talk about video games, hence why I am here on Destructoid with you. I've got a wonderful little family of 2 kids and a wife and we all play games in some shape or form. My wife enjoys WoW (probably a bit too much) and playing Halo with either myself or her friends. My kids like kid stuff like Kinectimals or flash games on the PC. And me? I like almost everything. So long as a game is fun or has the ability to effect my feelings or emotions, I'm game.

Consoles:

Xbox 360

PS3

Wii

I play them all, but truthfully it's not in an "All Consoles are Equal" sort of way. I prefer the 360, mainly because I know more people who own one, but I do play my PS3 whenever a worthy exclusive is released. The exclusives make the purchase worth it. As for the Wii, well, it gets ignored most of the time. But I pull it out from time to time, usually when a big Nintendo game is released for it.

My Favorite Games:

10. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
9. Gears of War
8. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Theme Song FTW)
7. Final Fantasy IX
6. God of War
5. Super Mario Galaxy
4. Chrono Cross
3. Super Mario Bros. 3
2. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
1. Resident Evil 4

And there you have it. I love Destructoid and it's amazing community. I will probably never leave.

Luc Bernard is still a being baby on forums around the internets, Dtoid are evil villains of game reviewing
EternalDeathSlayer | 9:33 AM on 08.02.2008 55 comments

Note: If you can't see the text in the picture above, click the gallery. Better yet, go check out this forum where you'll discover that Luc is still a douchebag and a whiny bitch.

And people are disappointed in our community? For cursing Luc Bernard out after he acted like a big fucking baby? I wasn't going to get involved because I figured I'd be upset if my game was shit on and all, but this guy is a total fucking douchebag. Have you guys seen what he is saying about our wonderful website and community here at Destructoid.com? The gaming community as a whole should be disappointed in this guy for acting like this. He's being a fucking baby, and he's also calling out Dtoid on it's integrity.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you can expect thoroughly honest reviews from the editors here. We may not agree with them more all the time, but they give their honest opinions of each game they review. And that's the point of a review: To give your own damn opinion of a game. This is why no gamer should read the reviews of only one site, because everyone has a different opinion. What's amazing to Jim Sterling may suck donkey balls to the guys at IGN.

This is something Luc doesn't understand. He seems to expect great reviews from everyone else just because we're supposedly being dishonest in our reviews. Basically, he's making something out of nothing and telling the internet and it's gamers that we reviewed a non-official or early copy of the game, when in fact our own Conrad Zimmerman purchased the retail version of the game.

The point I'm getting at is that although we said some vulgar things, who cares? This is the god-damn internet. At least we told it like it was, whereas Luc denied his own incompetence and instead went on a flaming adventure, all in the name of making Dtoid look like they're not credible in any way.

Too bad Luc can't type a sentence properly, otherwise he might have been able to convince some web lurkers that we really are scumbags over here at Dtoid.

Also, I'd love to point out how his programmer and him are posting in tandem like they're friends, meanwhile he throws him under the bus and acts like the game is all his fault.

I disagree with the reviewers here at d-toid fairly regularly. I thought they were too easy on GTAIV, and that Chad was a bit daft to complain about how hard FFIV DS was, but I do not hold these people to be perfect. They are gamers like me, and they have opinions. Jim's fascination with Dynasty Warriors disturbs me no end, and I don't always agree with him, but I'll be damned if I don't find him enjoyable and provocative. And I'd trust him far further than I'd trust many other people on the internet, without ever having spoken one to one with the man.

No idea where I'm going with this. It's late and I need sleep.

Passing it off as "it's the interent" is not an excuse. I refuse to pass judgment on the game until I play a demo of it, but I don't think I can recall of any game I have ever played that I thought was only deserving of a review score of 1/10. On top of that, I almost never agree with Rev about anything he ever says.

So like I said, when the demo releases, try it out for yourself, and make your own judgment.

@ Tazar: I will do that hopefully soon, but it doesn't excuse his behavior. We were a lot more honest then he was, and it's quite obvious he knows the game sucks, he's just so damn hurt that he can't admit it.

He didn't debate Destructoid, he just made accusations and acted childish. Some of us weren't much better, but he was the worst offender here in my opinion. And he just keeps it going on other sites, trashing the editors and all.

I've been trying staying out of this entire discussion but Luc's whining is getting pretty bad. My advise to him would be take the criticism in stride and try to make it better the next time. OH AND DON'T THROW YOUR TEAM UNDER THE BUS.As far as the review goes, I think it was harsh, but I didn't play the game before it was patched. If it was unplayable, then it totally deserves a shitty score.

So Heretic, is Luc's cock tasty?

Nice find EDS, it just goes to show what a douchebag he is, running and crying to other sites when he can't handle the truth about his Newgrounds-level game.

Lets put this in perspective...

Luc spent years of his time and his own money to produce a cheap platformer. There was a major flaw with his release, but it was fixed near instantly. The same day he fixes the problem, a review comes out that says the game is worthless and has no redeeming qualities, mostly because of what he just fixed.

On the other side, D-toid sheeple spent a few minutes reading someone else's opinion of the game (that reads like a MST3K episode with the jump issue coming up every paragraph), and then turned into a raving mob out for Luc's blood because they felt entitled somehow.

Even if the game was terrible (which I don't think it is), he has every right to call a reviewer's opinion into question, and most of this community does it every time a game is reviewed. That's the definition of hypocrisy.

@Heretic

You're right in the fact that a large chunk of this site acted pretty fucking childish. But as it gets bigger the dumbasses are going to be harder to control.

It's still no excuse for blaming his team for not making the game true to his idea.

Perhaps you're right, Heretic. For my part, I didn't curse him out last night. I just called him a baby and told him to move on with life.

But there's also no excuse for going around the internet and telling other communities that we're dishonest or lack credibility. Who the fuck is Kotaku, that he thinks they will have such a superior review? Why try and make Dtoid look bad?

Personally, I think he's a big baby. He's acting like an snotty artist who's work just got shit on and isn't taking it well. Next he'll be sending out suicide threats when the rest of the internet tells him the game sucks. It's ridiculous.

The issues with the game extend far beyond just the jumping problem, if you read the review.

I'm with Heretic on this one. Luc made some poorly thought and uncalled for remarks about Dtoid and the review, but does that make it our duty to wage some sort of vendetta against him?

I understand what EDS is on about.. not so much if the game sucks or not, but the fact he cant man up and take the review with out shedding some tears. I agree, these things have to be expected.

You dont go around blaming everything on everyone else, even more so... someone that helped you with the project. Taking pride in your work is key, and owning up to mistakes or taking the negative in a positive manner is also part of pride.

Although I think Luc got what was coming to him in the review the community did go too far and it was embarrassing but like watching a car crash, you know it's bad and shouldn't look but you do it anyway.

I don't blame Luc for his comments on the Steam forum. I mean a guys got to eat right? and he needs the game to sell if he wants to continue making games and he's got to try and convince people to buy it. He may be a big baby but I think a lot of people would do the same thing

You want to know why people hate this site, and believe me, they do? It's because of crap like what happened in the comments yesterday.

This whole thing is a huge clusterfuck. If you don't agree with the review, try the game for yourself with the upcoming demo. Besides that, the game is only 5 fucking dollars. The game was hardly perfect, but I've spent far more on games that sucked even worse.

@Tazar

I'm more than wiling to try out the demo, but you got to keep in mind that we'll be playing a completely different game. The game was patched the day it was released to fix poor programming that literally made the game unplayable. Why would any reviewer give a poor platformer anything more than 1 out of 10 if the main mechanic (jumping, as it is in most platformers) is absolutely broken? Harsh or not, Luc had no business releasing the game in that condition, and Rev and Conrad rated the game as such.

@EternalDeathSlayer

You're throwing gasoline on the fire man. I understand you are standing up for the community, and the community certainly appreciates it. However, flaming this guy isn't going to make him go away any faster. That, and I think Reaprar did more than a sufficient job of making this guy feel worthless.

I do agree with you though. Who fucking cares how the community reacted. This guy deserved it. He also took jabs at the integrity of our community and the professionalism of the employees of the website. Just let the guy wash the sand out of his vagina before you throw more in there.

@EternalDeathSlayer:
I don't think his comments in the Steam forum are inflammatory. He's just trying to defend his game which for some reason he believes is good and most people aren't giving the demo a chance as they are just jumping on the "this game is shit fuck you Luc" bandwagon.
His comments on Dtoid though are out of line but then again so were a lot of community members.

Of course he has to act like it's amazing. Do you seriously think if a bad game is released the creator is gonna simply say, "Well it's not that great of a game guys, I'm not too sure you will enjoy it." of course not! I haven't played the game, but I'm guessing that it probably does deserve more than just a "1", but Luc's not gonna go saying "Trust Dtoid they reviewed my game and gave it a bad score." he's gonna either. a.) Give us reasons to still play the game or b.) Say that the game is good and that a bad review is wrong.
EternalDeathSlayer's Avatar - Comment posted on 08/02/2008 13:01

Actually, no he doesn't. He could give reasons why the game is good or the review isn't accurate, but instead he chose to attack Rev Ant and Conrad's credibility, as if they had no business reviewing the retail copy of the damn game.

Doesn't make much sense, does it? He's taking people on the internet way too seriously and so they in turn will take him more seriously, to the point where they become like me: So annoyed and displeased with his existence that I don't even want to buy the game. If he had learned from this experience, I may have considered spending the measly 4.50 on the game to support him and his "noble efforts" in the future. Maybe he will make a great game one day. But I no longer like him just like he no longer likes us. So fuck his game.

It's not just the forums Luc's being a baby on. He (and someone else, maybe his programmer?) are editing out all references to the Dtoid review on Wikipedia.

I don't get where you guys are coming from that anyone other than Luc Bernard went too far. Usually I can at least see the perspective even if I don't agree with it. But that guy has been on here acting like a pretentious twat for months and living off the enormous free press provided by Dtoid and then he attacks everyone because they don't like his game which is BROKEN? Please.

He needs to learn a lesson about not being a little baby and a douchebag to people. Obviously he didn't learn it in real life and maybe (thanks to his tissue thin skin) he'll learn it from the Internet. It's just too bad that every other site (if any of them bother to review it) will give it a 5 or 6 and he'll think he's been vindicated, all because he doesn't realize that just like a 1 on Dtoid those scores actually mean 0.

Luc acted unprofessional in his opening gambit, sure. But he was obviously shaken up by the low score. Which isn't to excuse his behavior. I just tend to think that if you guys had any capacity for, y'know, real human emotion, you'd have recognized that he wasn't in the best frame of mind when he responded, and then maybe things would have gone down differently.

And really, who the fuck ever said it was our responsibility to fight the editor's battles for them anyway? When did it become necessary to line up like a good little sheep and shit on everyone who doesn't lavish praise on them or the site itself? These guys seem perfectly capable of taking care of themselves, and frankly, while I enjoy D-Toid as much as the next guy, textually savaging the guy like so many of you did served no other purpose than to make the community at large look like a bunch of fuck-wits. It wasn't justified, and wasn't called for no matter how much of a baby the guy was being.

Oh yeah, and you people need to stow the "Internetz, seriuz biznes, lol!" bullshit. Just because you can't be held accountable for saying this shit doesn't make it any less fucked-up. It still carries weight, just the same as it would if you said it to someone's face. Something that you likely wouldn't do. Gotta love the safety of the internet, eh?

By the way, I'm perfectly prepared for the inevitable "You take the innernetz too seriously, fuck off!", or "You're too sensitive, fuck you fag, lol!" posts. And really, go to it if it makes you feel better about yourself.

I just don't think that there's much of an excuse for being an asshole, whether online or off. That it comes so naturally to some of you is pretty goddamned discouraging. The community is supposed to be above that shit, even if Luc isn't.
