While sitting here bored at work with nothing to do, I decided I'd try giving Sony a call just now. Why would I call them? Brace yourself and get ready to laugh at me, for I have probably ruined my Metal Gear Online Beta chances, regardless of delays.
I've been kind of busy lately at work and home, and besides all of my personal issues, the Mets have been winning some baseball games. So my Dtoid time has been down to a bare minimum, and it's been the same for my gaming. So I didn't even try downloading the beta until last night. Everything on that side went smoothly. I put the code in and started downloading. But about 3 minutes in, my wife decided to boot up WoW. My PSN connection was lost.
And apparently, so was the download. I've looked everywhere for some way to resume the download, but to no avail. And when I try and enter my beta key again, it tells me that I've "already used this pre-paid card the maximum number of times". Yeah. So, I'm probably fucked. I'm going to try Sony again later on. I figure if anyone can actually help, it's them and not Konami. Of course, it is possible I just fail at life and am completely missing something here. Very possible....
Oh well. If I'm fucked, I'm fucked. It's only a beta in the end.....
But anyway, to the advertisements! Perhaps this isn't new, but it's the first time I've encountered anything of the sort. While being run through Sony's support robots, I was forced to listen to a 30 second advertisement for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue! Now, I've got no problem with that game, and the advertisement itself doesn't really bother me. I just though this was kind of strange. Whenever I call MS, I'm usually greeted by some obnoxious asshole who's name I can't remember. He's not really there, of course, but he annoys the shit out of me. Still, he's not much worse than the real live MS support people. They're evil bastards. At least Sony's pre-recorded phone personality is a female with a normal voice. In fact, her voice is refreshingly normal. I'd hit it.
Is this a new thing? Or is it common? I could have easily missed something like this with MS support. I'm usually ready to kill someone when I call them.

I love you.
Now that's sorted.
If and when you can't get the beta to work send me a PM. I should receive another code probably tomorrow or day after tomorrow. It's going to be a 9 digit one but you can mail konami about it and you'll get a 12 digit one. But check out what DarkTravesty suggested. But I do think they've said it was a one time download. Otherwise I could've spread my PSN log-in all over the place (or at least to 5 others). Maybe there is one other option but for that you need an European psn account. Which is easy to make if you haven't already done that. We Europeans got lucky for once, we don't need a code. Hmmm, come to think of it. It might not be in the store anymore. Well, do what DarkTravesty suggested otherwise PM me.
Do you think you'll have to get an European Konami ID? I would try to get one, just put your country on England or even better The Netherlands and create a spare one.
Yes it is in there, but like I said before. They mentioned a one time only download. Otherwise we would have to go through all that shit of getting a hold of the 12 digit code. You could just download it from my account.
After you finished the download start the beta. You'll notice that you have to download an update. Select the 'bit torrent' option and leave it alone for one night. While downloading go to
id.konami.net (<-- watch it, it's .net) and create a Konami ID and a Game ID. It might take some time but keep trying. If you've got everthing you're good to go. The rest is up to Konami.
How could you EDS' wife, now that's one less DTOID buddy to play MGO with. * Cries *
GO! GO! GO!
p.s.
Add me to your friends list homie.
