So today I cashed my Tax return check and went shopping for some games, as I said I would yesterday in this space. If you read it, I was trying to decide what game to buy today. My choices were
Lost Odyssey,
No More Heroes, or of course wait a few weeks and get me some
Dynasty Warriors 6. I had also planned to pick up
Unreal Tournament 3 to show my poor neglected PS3 some damn love for once. It hasn't been used once since the beginning of January when I conquered one of the best games I've ever played,
Uncharted:
Drake's Fortune. It needed me.
As for the games, I decided on
Lost Odyssey to go along with
UT3. I haven't played the former yet, and I'm afraid it may have to wait till tommorow, maybe longer. I've beaten
DMC4 (more on that later) so now that's out of the way I think I'm gonna be addicted to UT3. I popped it in shortly after arriving home, as the kids had just went down for a nap. My wife was playing WoW and leaving me in peace. It was beautiful.
The game really is the definition of
Twitch Shooter. I only played a few matches but the first thing that stuck out to me was the speed. It's intense and very fast paced. See, I'm new to the
Unreal franchise. This is my first time. So this was a complete and utter culture shock if you will. I've been a big fan of
Gears of War,
Halo 3, and
CoD4 so this is like visiting another damn world to me.
At first, I thought it was some kind of FPS Nightmare world, a bad dream. Everybody was fast as fucking hell and I was being fragged at an alarming rate. The weapons were strange and different compared to what I'm used to. But after a few matches I started picking it up a little bit and was getting some kills. Not more then I was dying, but I'm happy with how I performed in the long run.
The controls for this one are a bit looser than the other big FPS' we've been playing recently. They are not as precise as say a
Halo 3 or a
CoD4, but I suspect this is to make things a bit more even when playing against Mouse and Keyboard users. Once you get used to the controls things feel a lot more natural and you should find yourself enjoying the game, unless you absolutely suck at shooters. This one is definitely not the most accessible FPS out there.
But all in all I had a lot of fun in my brief playtime with the game. I am currently lacking a headset because apparently, the dog actually ate the Bluetooth one that came with
WarHawk. According to my wife at least. I have no clue how I didn't notice this earlier. So if you see me online tonight I may or may not have voice chat. It depends on wether I can get a headset after work or not. Also, BTW, I traded in
WarHawk. Just saying.
If you're wondering what's going on with my next contest, don't worry, it's happening. It will be up in blog form tonight or tommorow, and rest assured that this time everyone will have an equal chance at winning. It won't involve getting the right numbered comment. It's going to be for 2000 Wii Points. It will be up for one day, so no worries about missing out if you're not here at the right time.
That's it for now.
Also, what did you mean about waiting a few weeks for Dynasty Warriors 6? It came out yesterday in America.
Also, this wasn't a review, more like first impressions, but then again I'm never going to play the single player mode so it may as well be a review.
Have fun!
PS: LOST ODDYSEY is awesome.
