I recently mentioned in a blog that my Xbox 360 had broken again. I believe it was the fourth time or something like that, but I can't really be sure. I've kind of lost fucking count. Anyway, at first I decided to just send the fucker in for repairs, and I even had the nerve to convince myself I was somehow lucky it broke now, as opposed to it breaking in May when my warranty finally ends. So I called the fuckers at MS up and sent away for my coffin.
Then this past week I went out to get a 1600 MS pts card for the totally awesome Blehman (bloodylip is also awesome and will get his next week!). I decided to check out my local Circuit City while I was out, just to see what kind of deals they had, if any. Well, what do you know, they actually had some good shit for once. All consoles were 20% off, which meant the sole remaining Xbox 360 Elite they had was marked down to $320 from $400.
So I bought the fucker.
As I was hooking up the fucker, I couldn't help but get excited. But then I realized: What the fuck am I so excited for? The fact that I was hooking up a system I should never have had to buy? And then it hit me: Microsoft owns me.
Let me be honest: I love the Xbox 360 as a console. It's got a nice interface and of course it also has the superior Xbox Live. This isn't a matter of opinion; It's become a fact. I own all 3 consoles and I can definitely say one thing is true: PSN and the Wii's online service are ass. PSN works well enough for games considering it's free, but the download speeds suck my balls. Anyway, besides all these things, it's also the more popular console amongst the "hardcore" crowd, or at least the shooter crowd. All of my friends own a 360 but not a PS3. So if I'd like to play with my friends, I'm stuck with a 360.
Pretty much every factor that goes into using or purchasing a console is ruled by MS. And I fucking hate it.
Really, I'd love to abandon the piece of shit and give my eternal love to the PS3, but unfortunately I hate everything about using the PS3. It's a damn shame. Microsoft has me so hooked with stupid shit like achievements and exclusive demos that they know they can sell me consoles that will break. They don't even apologize for it. When you call them for customer support, they treat you like they're doing you a favor. They treat their customers like we're fucking slaves.
And that's because most of us are. We can get a lot of the same games on both consoles, yet I always buy the 360 version. And they know this. They know they have their dick in my ass and that they can do whatever they want.
I pray to God that Sony wins the next round of console wars. I can't take being a slave to MS any longer. This year had better be good for PS3 owners. I need an excuse to turn off the 360.
Anyway, I just felt like venting. Sorry if this doesn't seem coherent.
Back to playing the Xbox 360.
No sure why you'd rather be enslaved to Sony than Microsoft, though.
I'm not quite sure myself. It just feels less wrong.
The NXE sucks though.
Last week I got a "new" 360 in the mail from the repair center and it's starting to trouble me already. The beast is even louder than my last two were and it's got me on edge...
But then again, MS seems to have less of a soul than Sony, so I'm not sure I'll ever feel comfortable loving them again.
Windows 7 is win though.
Also, it is depressing that we put up with this shit :(
I still can't believe you bought another Xbox. Fuck that. I still have mine and I do the complete opposite of you. Buy the multiplatform game on the PS3 and the exclusive that might strike my fancy for the 360. Honestly if it wasn't for Gears 2 and Left for Dead. I wouldn't have turned on my Xbox this year.
Also, Windows 7 is win.
Sounds like a personal problem to me.
360 works amazingly well, when it's not broken.
I like my 360 but I resent MS for putting out shoddy hardware and so lean towards my PS3 whenever I can, unless the game I'm after is a FPS then it's 360 all the way. I don't think I would ever buy a new 360 unless I really had to.
I was in the same boat as you recently when my 60g ps3 took a dump. Part of me thought bah just go buy another one. Then, thankfully, I was like WTF would I do that for when I could send it in and pay the $150 to get it fixed, it was out of warranty, and be happy with more money. I received a refurb 60g model, not the 80g with no BC, and was very happy. Yea it took about 3 weeks to get it back, but instead of spending $400 I only spent $150.
I hate being fucked up the ass by MS as well.
same here downloaded the Killzone 2 demo (1.2gig) in 15 20 mins but i downloaded Fear 2 demo(700mb)on the 360 and it took 40 mins
btw the elite can be worst for red ringing so ive been told from someone who fixes 360 for a living!
CASHHH!
At least you now have two 360 units and your e-peen has increased significantly.
Uh no. What does PSN lack that XBL has besides a monthly fee? The PSN Store is ALOT more organized than Xbox Live, both pre and post NXE update. Not to mention I always experience faster downloads on PSN compared to Xbox Live.
And the 360 interface is pretty much a 90 degree flipped version of PS3's cross media bar, except boat loaded full of advertisements.
PS2 sucked balls...
(( Went through 4 of them. ))
Ace Combat, Van Helsing, & Tekken Tag
Were the only titles I had to have the "Superior Version" on PS2.
I love me some original XBOX.
Riddick, Guilty Gear X, Fable, & Doom 3 Expns.
Perhaps you get faster downloads, and some others along with you. But I don't, and now my best friend just got a PS3 only for KZ2 and he has the same problems.
It takes me literally 5 minutes to download a 1GB demo on XBL.
2 hours on PS3. WTF? Don't tell me it's my connection, I've got a 30MBs connection. Of course, if I hook it up to a wired connection, it's speeds are fine. But wireless, from the same spot as the 360, it's terrible.
Besides this, voice chat works a hell of a lot better on a 360, not to mention the fact they don't even give you a fucking headset when you buy a PS3.
Look, Sony fucked up. They missed the boat on achievements, their trophy system sucks ass and isn't supported, the online is fine and works but is not as robust or as nice as XBL.
I'd rather pay 50 bucks a year and get fast downloads and no dropped connections.
Either way, I'm not here to argue with an arguement-prone type like yourself. I'm just here to bitch about how the 360 always breaks and how MS doesn't even feel bad about it.
I'm a slave to MS.
And thanks again for the card meng.
On dtoid, you too can win prizes for guessing numbers!
Of course, my BEST friend hates everything about the PS3 except the blu-ray and a few exclusives. My other friend has no problems with downloads, but he's got a wired connection. I can't be bothered to run wires all round the house just so the PS3 downloads as fast as every other thing I own that's connected to the network.
And @ SephirothX: I don't have any problems with the PS3, just the fact the Killzone 2 demo took 4 hours to download. That's partly why I'm putting it down, because I had a bad experience with my PS3 last night.
Can't we all just be friendly?
PS3 has servers.
Xbox 360 has party system.
These are the two features that make me love each one more than the other, back and forth ad infinitum.
It seems some people get faster downloads on 360 and some on PS3. What does this mean? Server locations, server loads and a whole lot of who knows. Clearly we can't make a judgement call on it. I also haven't heard of dropped connections on PS3 online. I think it is probably a more robust service than your think EDS, though you could be forgiven for not paying attention to the improvements that have been made in the last couple years.
Drinks all around?
Since online play works greate (I "test it" damn near every Friday), it seems like you've just got a problem with max throughput and that's because of wired vs wireless. Wireless is fine for playing because game traffic is never that high, but for downloads the difference will show. I'm sure if you plugged in the PS3 and used Microsoft's wireless rip-off you'd have the opposite result. Basically, it's just a circumstance of your setup.
But I will comment on them for the sake of commenting. Done.
Either way, the point of this wasn't to argue about the qualities of PSN. I prefer paying 50 bucks for XBL, but that's just me. I didn't write a blog attacking PS3 fans, as you can obviously tell.
I think the PS3 could be the most amazing console ever, but for some reason, it's not. Sony could have been number one, if not for an expensive starting price and a hard to develop for machine.
So you won't ever find me truly attacking the PS3 no matter how much I ignore and neglect the damn thing. I have no problem with it sitting there doing nothing, because to me it's worth the $600 I payed just to be able to play games like Uncharted, MGS4, God of War 3, and Killzone 2.
I don't like the online, but I'm not so concerned with it anyway. I'm there for the amazing exclusive games.
NHL 09 doesn't have them, I know that.
If that were true, it would be awesome.
God I suck.....
I use the PS3 for it's exclusive games, most of which offer superior single player experiences IMO.
Also I thought I remember hearing, if you have Comcast, that when more people are using their internet the slower it is. So if you are downloading a big file during prime time internet usage it would be slower.
Wii (lack of hard drive, HD options, poor online
PS3 (poor online service, no headset,
360 (Red ring problems,
Whoever rules the next gen, mistakes will be made, but right now, I'd put my money on 360. So long as whoever is in the lead, respect their customers and don't bullshit us, then things will change and we'll be happier.
Did you really just group hardware failure with lack of HD and headset?! Your a crazy bastard.
:D
but after having to buy a new xbox to replace my launch unit I can sympathise with ya. They are lucky they bought out alot of franchises cause that knowledge is the only thing that kept my xbox from going out the window when it died on me 4 times.
