Really, it's not too bad at all. Not what you'd expect had you played the original version of Devil May Cry 3, although from what I remember, the first game was on par with this one. It's clear Capcom wanted to make sure this one was playable and beatable for the largest audience possible, but the Devil Hunter mode is also there to satisfy the hardcore and the masochists. Well, just the hardcore this time, but you get the point. And yes, I'm playing it on Human mode. My brother has told me that it's not that bad even on Devil Hunter mode, and he sucks at DMC. So I'll take his word for it. I personally find that Human Mode strikes a fine balance, and it's a great way for newbs to jump in and have fun. Hopefully it does continue to increase a bit in difficulty, or I may just have to switch over to Devil mode. Anyway, on with the words. I remember recieving the original version of DMC3 shortly after it came out, and it was insanely hard. So hard in fact, that I never finished it. I actually only played a few missions and got so fed up I traded it in. It was intimidating and frustrating for a player of my skill. Obviously it was meant to appease the critics who complained about DMC2's lack of any difficulty. I think they went a little overboard with that one. Of course, the remedied all of this in the Special Edition of DMC3, but sadly I never got around to trying that version out.
After playing DMC4 on Human mode, I may just have to track a copy of it down. While the story isn't the most exciting or the best written, it's somewhat interesting on the whole. It's certainly enough to make me want to know more about Dante, other than the fact that he likes pizza and drops cheesy lines just like Nero. Having been quite young when the original game came out, I don't really remember much about the story. I remember flying in a plane at the end, but that's about it. I just loved the action way back then. So if DMC3: Special Edition has an Easy mode, I expect I'd love it just as much in the end. Of course, none of the previous games have Nero's Devil Bringer, which completely changes the game. While it's not perfect, it definitely adds a lot to the combat and certainly succeeds in making you feel like a bad ass, which is pretty much the goal of all this. When you use the Devil Bringer to slam the gigantic fire monster Berial on his ass, you know Nero's the real deal. The combos and moves he can pull off are incredible as it is, but then you add that little extra bit of functionality with Devil Bringer and it's all taken to a new level.
I'm currently on Mission 7 or 8 I believe, it's the one in the Forest of Ruin, or whatever it's called. I just beat some gigantic flying dragon/snake thing that has a slutty evil whore inside. She was the easiest boss so far in terms of getting her life down, but she also hurt me more than any of the others. I particularly liked the fight with the Giant Toad demon, as I found him to be very impressive graphically. He's got nice texture work on his skin. But I've enjoyed all of the boss fights so far, as each one has that epic feeling to it. The bosses are fucking huge for the most part. The game really reminds me of the old-school days for some reason. Perhaps it's the fact that besides orbs and shit, you also get a score for kicking ass. It could also be the very welcome mission/level structure. Sometimes, you get sick of not being told what to do next. I just want to go from level to level. Of course, it's also cool that the entire game world is seemingly right there. All you have to do is backtrack and you're right there. Also, these are the types of bosses I used to love fighting when I was a kid; The kind that fill the screen and really kick your ass. All boss fights should be this epic.
I look forward to tackling it on Devil Hunter mode to see how it stacks up against DMC3 in terms of difficulty. Somehow I don't see it being that close. Also, SLAM DUNK! Nero FTW. Anyway, about that new banner and avatar: Just take a look up top. The artwork was done by community member the GAMEGOBLIN, and it kicks ass! It's a work in progress, as he still has to add a background of sorts and possible work some Photoshop magic for me, but I'm quite happy with it as it is. It's a combo of two of my favorite things (thank you Cpt. Obvious), Dtoid and Kratos from God of War. I would love it if Mr. Destructoid was a fucking playable character in God of War 3. Dtoid in HD bitchez. But that's just an awesome fantasy of mine. Anyway, thanks a lot GAMEGOBLIN! That's a great way to show your love of the community, and especially when you're helping out me. I was Whiteboy0869 after all. Thanks a lot. I love the Destructoid Community.

I'm surprised we haven't heard Yoj1mb0 ranting on how un-hardcore the difficulty of this one was.
I still say DMC1 was much harder than 3. But that's me.
there really isn't a big difference in difficulty in Human/Devil Hunter. Maybe in Son of Sparday and of course the good ole Dante must die. But those first 2 modes are about as same as it gets. Good review though.
