Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Man up and buy the game you want so damn bad. If you want good games to continue to come out, support the developer and spend the $50 or whatever.
Pirating is just lazy. If you can't afford the game you want, get a job.
The same with Bioshock. I installed it on the one computer I own and played it to my hearts content. No problems ever with the SecurROM system they had in place.
As long as the software isn't making me stop the gameplay every ten minutes to manually re-type my CD key or seriously hindering game performance or something simialt to that, I don't see the big deal.
Most people who have a computer good enough to run recent games well will most likely have internet on said computers.
I wont buy a PC game with Starforce, let alone download it. No way do I want that shit on my computer
This does nothing, all it does is piss off the consumer and make them pirate the damn thing.
I'm all for piracy protection bit this isn't the way to do it.
Exactly, the only people this is going to frustrate are the regular consumers who are supporting the developer by buying the game.
The legit consumer purchases his copy of the game, then for the entire time he plays it has to deal with being constantly connected, the risk of false positives, servers going down, requests timing out, delays in booting the game when he just wants to play, and the ominous "ceasing to function".
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize on which size you want to be in that comparison.
No, YOU read the article. The follow came directly from Chris Priestly at BioWare in their message areas:
Q: Why does MEPC need to reactivate every 10 days?
A: MEPC needs to authenticate every 10 days to ensure that the CD key used for the game is valid. This is designed to reduce piracy and protect valid CD keys.
Did you notice that the reactivation is *EVERY 10 DAYS*? It's NOT a twice-and-done deal.
I AM FED UP WITH BEING TREATED AS A POTENTIAL PIRATE INSTEAD OF A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER!!
Whether it's a damned key disc for the Commodore 64, a decoder wheel for the 256-color PC, or an on-line activation every 10 days -- enough is enough! If you f*ckers at EA want to treat me like a pirate, then - damn it - that's how I'm going to act! You assholes just guaranteed that if I play MEPC it won't be by giving BioWare/EA any profits.
Sorry if Jim stole your thunder by putting his own article on the front page. I sent an e-mail to the Destructoid Tips address about this before I saw that you posted about it. :/
If Mass Effect costs around $70(which most xbox ports cost, which is good) then ill have a look at it, since thats a fair price. If not, screw them. I may not be able to pirate it, but im still not going to buy it.
