So how do you fill in the blank? Is the word inactive, hardcore, casual? Was it an ethnic, racial or gender reference? What about a religious reference or genre preference? Is it age related? What about "old skool" or "graphics wh0re"? Is it console related? Most of us are just "I'm a gamer"... but what qualifier do you think most influences your thoughts on games? What word would you use if you had to pick a word (or phrase)?
For example, I'm a [female] gamer. I can't help being female, and it does have an influence on how I perceived games. It gets me riled up and downright pissed off when I see female characters portrayed in a game as primarily sex objects, stupid, or inconsequential. I prefer games that let me play as a female character... though I'll certainly play games where I play as a male. It's a qualifier that influences how I sometimes view games. A good game is still a good game... but for example, Warhawk would be a better game for me if they had female avatar options. I'm also talkative when playing online and yes, it can also influence how some gamers interact with me... because I'm a [female] gamer.
I guess I'm also an [old] gamer. I don't think of myself as old, but apparently in online gaming I'm considered as such. I'm 47 and the games I play online tend towards the shooter genre... Killzone, Warhawk, Resistance, UT3. While it's not unusual for females to play these games, it apparently is unusual for an [old] [female] to play these games. Not that this doesn't have it's advantages... young boys seem to find female gamers fascinating... but mentioning that I'm also 47 seems to send those 15 year old teabaggers scurrying away in a hurry over fears that I somehow know their Moms and will tell on them or something (I don't, and I wouldn't).
I'm also an [opinionated] gamer. I blog on gaming related topics a lot. I usually blog in the closed off, passworded community of the Playstation Gamer Advisory Panel, but recently I've been feeling the need to stretch my wings. On looking around, I find that this site seems to have intelligent, opinionated, interesting and informative blogs, so this is my first blog and introduction. I won't bore you with a list of consoles I've owned or games I've played... I'm 47 and still remember Pong on the black and white TV and Zork on my Tandy computer! It would be a long list. I will say that currently I have a PS3 and a PSP and most of my gaming is done on the PS3.
In an effort to meet my fellow neighbors in this community... how did you fill in the [blank]?

Nice first post, welcome to Destructoid!
I'm sure the community will welcome your unique perspective on gaming, hope to see more in the future.
Bonus question:
I'm a male, 20 something action-whore/hardcore gamer. Seriously, I'll beat shitty action games I don't enjoy just to beat them.
I also feel your pain when it comes to objectified females in any entertainment medium. It's a very rare circumstance to find a strong female lead that wasn't created solely for eye-candy purposes.
That said, welcome to the site and hopefully enjoy your stay.
In response to your community question, I'm probably a [spread too thin] gamer. I used to be able to stick with one game and beat it to completion before moving onto the next, but my backlog is severely long and it gets longer as time goes on. I have the time to play them all, but oddly enough, not the will.
First of all welcome to Destructoid. Thank you for the nice intro. You had me laughing quite a few times. It's always good to see different kind of gamers join Destructoid. Since you're a PS3 owner you might want to join us on FNF (Friday Night Fights). And maybe, if you haven't got one already, join one of the Destructoid Killzone 2 clans.
Like EternalDeathSlayer said I'm also looking forward to see more of your writings.
I can't really fill in the [blank] for myself. Let someone else do that.
Now about that discussion on menstrual cramps...
I would have missed out on some of my favourite things in life if I didn't go out of my comfort zone to find that enjoyment.
I would say that I am a [competitive] gamer. In general, I am a very competitive person playing sports year round and will really only do something if bragging rights are attached. That's why I tend to play mostly online games. But at the same time I'd say I'm more of a [cooperative] gamer as I am a team player and care more about a team victory than my stats. Plus I love Resistance 2's coop mode above all else and think that Burnout's Online Freeburn challenges were one of the most innovative features brought into "open world racing". I really can't wait to try Uncharted 2's coop mode as well. Alright final answer. I am a [social] gamer who feels uncomfortable using a headset haha.
Also more shooters need the option of using female soldiers. The only current game I can think of that has women in it is R2 via DLC.
I would say I'm a [badass] gamer. Yep, that sounds about right to me :)
You are in good company. I'm 31 so don't feel bad, that all here are fanboy tweens. I'm also a male gamer, but interested in others perspectives of games, whatever gender you are.
Post something interesting and I'll check it out.
Good length blog/intro not too long :) I really wouldn't know what I am in terms of what type of gamer I am. Probably [obsessive] gamer as well as Shinryu.
Also, what Takeshi said. I can vouch for how fun they (FNF'S) are as I played my first clan match the Friday that's just been Join us it's great fun :]
I am a [picky] gamer, I guess. It could be a bad tag but I just take developers, publishers, style, story, gameplay, how mindless is the violence or how rich the content is. I am kind of a Nintendo fan but intend to take much wider eyes on what is all around. And no, I do not buy everything that hold the Nintendo label, and I think Reggie is a blockhead.
The funny thing is i don't buy almost any of the games I keep an eye in, I watch them spawn, develop and arrive with the time and it is fun to see that process to judge expectancies from the audience. Of ocurse a nigger reason is that I do not have the money to have another console now.
Also, you should join our SOCOM clan. It's better than Killzone 2 and their 2 clans.
I'm a [2D] gamer. Give me Gunstar Heroes over the next Call of Duty anyday. Give me the next metroidvania CV game over Square's next RPG. Give me Cortex Command over any of Blizzard's RTS games. Not saying I don't like any other genre, it's just, I'd rather play something in 2D than 3D.
Don't be afraid younglings...
be VERY afraid MUAHAHAHAHA!
I mostly online game with GAP and run a Warhawk and Killzone clan. I can usually be found in an open GAP Warhawk game on Thursdays and a closed Killzone game on Sundays. On the other nights I play an assortment of games (most recently I've become addicted to Sacred 2, though I still occasionally play UT3, R2 and a second run through on Fallout 3) - but it's nice to see that Destructoid also has gaming nights!
... and I'm sure Nintendogs is a good game - but for some reason guys seem to think it's an insult to say "why don't you go back to playing Nintendogs" when they find a female gamer in an online shooter game! Most of my "about me" is a response to the common problems I've run into as a gamer... who happens to be female - but it's obviously not to be taken seriously! :)
... besides, in terms of online gaming... I have a worst secret than being female... I'm (gasp!) a CANADIAN! I got dumped from the official Warhawk tournament after the open ladders closed because they "clarified" the rules and Canadians weren't allowed... and I couldn't even compete in the Killzone tournament. :(
"Don't be afraid younglings..."
Are you a big Star Wars fan? :D
Like Star Wars very much, do I. Awesome, it is hmm? =D
Shameless
I'm Dutch so yeah, I'm pretty much ruled out of every tournament or contest being held, period. Which I think is
bullshit. Killzone 2 is made here for crying out loud.
Maybe we can setup a clan match for a FNF. I'm currently updating our little Destructoid Killzone 2 Clan Blog. Looking forward to play against/with you.
You're Dutch! I've been trying to figure it out this whole time. That's awesome! I've no idea why I never picked up on "Amsterdam Holland" in your profile.
Welcome to Destructoid.
Nah man, totally relevant.
I do now have a sickening fascination for Henry Hatsworth now, I almost cut my self to pull away so I could give FFXII the same amount of time I wanted to give it.
So I guess I'm an [Psudo-British Puzzle Solver Adventurer/ 16 year old Black Kid] Gamer.
Welcome to DToid. Join up with one of the Killzone 2 Clans, or try and fail to beat Jimbo in any fighting game.
Seriously, he'll destroy you. I'm proof.
It also makes me happy to have someone mature and thoughtful joining the fold here on Dtoid. I laughed a bit when I saw you write that you, "find that this site seems to have intelligent, opinionated, interesting and informative blogs." You'll have to point me to them. Here on Dtoid, staff aside, those are usually the blogs that get ignored.
. . . and as for how I fill in the blank, I'd go with [appreciative]. I appreciate everything the industry can be, and I will always be happy it exists to entertain me.
