Okay so I read on my reader an article about the five hardest levels in video games of all time. I was just curious as to what others thought because my ideas of hard were different than those in the article.
1.
"Through the Fire and Flames" -Dragonforce on Guitar Hero III 'nuff said.
2.
Trying to get the "Hiduken" capsule in Megaman X seriously it took me so long to get it. That and the battle against Sigma in at the end of the game.
3.
Psycho Mantis was a real pain in the ass! Until I figured out the controller port trick I was royally pissed off.
4.
Seriously the Zombies Ate My Neighbors level where you're chased by the chainsaw guys was nearly impossible.
5.
And yes I thought Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was a real pain in the ass especially the level where you had to use the shovel to dig up an artifact but the game didn't seem to give you one damn clue as to where the son of a bitch was located I'm still angry about that.
Ninja Gaiden for the NES: fucking ridiculous
2. Not really a level, more of task. Still a bitch though.
3. Again, not a level. Not even really that hard.
4. I hate those chainsaw guys. That weren't that big a threat to me but they slaughtered the people you were supossed to save.
5. ...What? I think you're confusing Mystic Quest with FF7.
I totally forgot about that stupid game. I never and will never be able to beat that level.
FUCK BATTLETOADS!
i do agree with battletoads and TMNT too.
argh i miss the crazy difficulty level to make up for short games :)
I don't know if this is more of a "hardest level" or "most annoying level," but how about the spiked things in Hades from God of War?
Yea, I never EVER beat that level. Suprisingly, I still have nothing but fond memories of the game. It was so great.
Here's a video of one incredible gamer owning the bike stage: Perfect Bike Stage
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4. Ghosts N' Goblins -- Any level. Pick a level. Seriously.
3. Cybernoid. The entire game is one level of dicking.
2. Ecco The Dolphin -- Welcome To The Machine + Final Boss.
1. The bike race (OR ANYTHING AFTER THAT) level in Battletoads.
My girlfriend was able to get the hadoken-powerup back when she was a kid. The Psycho Mantis encounter wasn't as difficult as it was simply a neat concept. AND I STILL DON'T SEE ANYTHING ABOUT BATTLETOADS.
Also, the sewer levels on TMNT for NES.
Besides, there's a warp to skip the final section. Don't be a bunch of pussies. :p
Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge
Fuck that game.
Yes, Storm's underwater levels were a nightmare. Ugh!
The last part of FarCry is the absolute hardest shit I have ever played. I never beat it. Right when you get inside the base, there are like 4 dudes with m16's, then if you manage to luckily kill even one of them, some motherfuckers walk out with rocket launchers. Not to mention those asshole are hurling grenades the whole time.
And why does that Transformer at the bottom of your banner have fingernails?
That is all.
Those games were so hard that they were *prohibitively* difficult. I wonder what percentage of people who bought those games actually completed them. I know I didn't and I was a pretty stubborn kid.
If a game is prohibitively difficult it is a bad game and not worth discussing. Battletoads and TMNT were bad games.
Kudos to Hater for not mentioning any of those pieces of shit.
@scientist tz: I've beaten TMNT and I will say that it was ridiculously difficult, but definitely doable. I'd take a walk through the TMNT memories park any day of the week over considering playing Ecco again.
Any game where you can be practically one-hit killed at anytime in an entire level, have to navigate a tricky maze that autoscrolls AND attempts to push you toward a direction during that autoscrolling AND you have to redo the entire level if you manage to die in the final boss fight (which if you've played the final boss fight, is just kinda silly -- pop the eyes, break the jaws what...three times? Then charge it, all while avoiding decaptitating alien-thingies and the queen trying to swallow you) is ridiculous.
Also, insanely long parenthetical description amidst long run-on sentence.
Erm... no. I'm saying that the bike level in Battletoads isn't really that hard, it just takes memorization and actual skill. The mention of the warp is really a tangent, but it is there if you don't possess said skills. :p
@Aerox
Heh, good call. Maybe someday we'll get to level 5 together. :p
