About Me
Who is Super Edco?
Since back from the retro days of yore, anytime a game would let you create a character and name it yourself, I've been using EDCO. It came about as an amalgam of my own names and the fact that an unusual number of games in those days only let you use four characters.

Videogames are a big part of my life. I've been playing and making videogames just about since there was such a thing to be done. My favorite games are RPGs and action adventures, and the rest of that list is a long one indeed.

Rondo of Swords

Has anyone checked out Rondo of Swords? (Not to be confused with Brawndo of Swords, with Electrolytes)

It's a turn based strategy with a rather unique combat system. You use the stylus to draw out your character's attack path over a grid, and any enemy in that path is subject to that attack. It works both ways, as enemies make paths of their own. You then get a cut scene of the character zooming through his path and making attacks (shades of Dragon Force). There are bonus attributes given when you pass through certain allies, as well as special magic attacks and "Over Break" special moves. Those cut scenes look cool, the art is crisp and detailed, and the overhead maps have a retro feel of classic RPGs with sprites. I thought the cut scenes would get old-- you can skip them since the outcome is determined as soon as the turn is over-- but I find myself watching them more often than not, especially the magics and Over Breaks.

And it's hard! The strategy involved is pretty unforgiving, I played the first mission 3 times (and the tutorial) before I got the hang of it. Even by the 5th mission you seem to be overwhelmed by enemies and there is very little room for error. But the game has that tactics-addiction quality that has you jumping right back in after a failed mission. What's cool about your party, is that even if one character is defeated, as long as you complete the mission they all come back for the next. So you don't really have to worry about the permanent death of a fallen member (that I know of so far). I'm really looking forward to later missions as my characters level up and get to use cool combos and magics. The cut scenes are very satisfying when you line up your attack path to zoom through your allies and 4 or 5 enemies.

I've got to thank Atlus for once again bringing over a game I likely would never have heard of if they hadn't, and it is a very Atlus type game. I know they have a certain audience of gamers (like me) that love this stuff. And I'm always glad when a title or two gets wider recognition, because it allows them to keep doing what they do!

Looks interesting, kind of like an old school SNES RPG (except of course with the stylus :)) I'll probably pick it up when I get my new DS.

I did a first impressions of this game a while ago, and having played a bit more since and having first thought this game was pretty linear, ive come to realise that it does actually have different paths you can take within the game, which im glad for :-) One thing I wish I realised earlier was if you play part of a mission and then regroup, your characters keep their experience so you can level them up to make it less challenging by redoing missions several times. Im pretty near the end now before I found this out....gah...at least the second playthrough I'll know what to do.

I'm actually currently playing this for my DS. I'm pretty far along (Red Lions Redux is the chapter) which I think is a bit over half-way through the game.

It is challenging, but it does get a lot easier the farther along you get as you recruit better characters (Ansom, Izuna and Cotton I think are among the best) and get a much better feel for the unique battle system.

I feel it's a good game, but it's probably not everyone's cup of tea. If you like SRPG's though, you'll probably want to get this for anyone on the fence about it. I love all 3 Atlus games I own (Rondo, Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis and Riviera: The Promised Land.) and I hope they continue putting out more great games in the future.

I have this game and it is very good. It is crazy hard at times to protect your mages and that would be my only problem with this game. Atlus has never let me down on games to buy.
