Chrono Trigger drawings up for grabs

"What I did over Holiday"

a) Las Vegas
b) Chrono Trigger

The two went surprisingly well together. I was sooooo looking forward to some time off work where all I had to do was sleep in late, get up and be a total couch potato with the new DS version of Chrono Trigger. Also, strippers.

Not only did I gleefully wile away the afternoon hours traveling thru time (thus far to the Ocean Palace), but was also inspired to do some sketching of my favorite characters from this RPG classic.

Chrono (aka Edco :-), special appearance by Robo

Marle, "mar-ul?" "mar-lee?" I always pronounced it the later... How do you say it?

And of course Ayla. "Edco tough like Ayla!"

Man, this game! Oh how I love it. What surprises me is how quickly you begin to care and get attached to the characters, still after all these years. By the end, well, some of you already know how that plays out. But it's all the little moments in-between that add to the whole. Like Frog's tragic origin, Robo's selfless bravery, and Ayla's unapologetic bravado. Modern games go thru great pains to evoke such things but can't quite get to it on the same level as these cool little sprites. Retroforce Go! did a great episode on Chrono Trigger, check it out if you aren't already a regular listener.

Anywhoooooo... Would you like one of these drawings? Leave a comment starting with the word "Gimme!" and note your attachment or favorite memory for the drawing you want: Chrono, Marle, or Ayla. Say something that would make me tear the very page from my sketchbook and send it to you!

I'll check back in a day or two and choose three different lads or lasses, leaving instructions on how to redeem in the comment thread. The offer is for these three drawings only, to be sent "as is." Meaning they are just sketches done in ink, a bit rough around the edges as it were. (pages are about 5x7") I know they aren't all that, but I wanted to offer to the DToid community if anyone wanted.

gimmie! I'm typing this from a friggin iphone!!! I want that chrono drawing so bad, I'm enduring typing on this ducking awful keyboard just to get it! Also I cried when chrono died for, like 2 days. I was more sad over the loss of chrono than my childhood goldfish!

Gimmie! I like the first one.

I am new to Chrono Trigger as well, as I just discovered it when I listened to the RetroforceGO! episode, then I not-emulated it, and got half way through. I quit until I got the DS version when it came out. I am playing it now, and CAN'T WAIT till I can finish it.

Also, Pendelton, FUCK YOU! Chrono dies? SOME people haven't finished the game yet, now it is ruined. Oh well, it's kind of my fault that I never finshed the game yet. I desearve every spoiler I get.

Gimme! I like the first one!

Not just because it has Crono(Edco), but because it has my absolute favorite Chrono character ever----Robo! Robo was an amazing little 'bot. When I first got him in my party, I thought "Huh. Powerful. Lazers. Probably switch him out later...," like how it is in ANY Squaresoft game.
But later never came. Robo became a stalwart constant in my party. He had heart, which was unique to see in a robot when I was young. He became a powerhouse, doing crazy attacks but having some sweet dual techs with every character- pair anyone with Robo and tell me it wasn't mega-powerful.
Then came the point where I could leave Robo to heal the forest. It was heart-wrenching, and even though I knew time-travel would allow me to see him again soon, it was still epic. Robo gave CENTURIES of his existence to help a mankind that he didn't totally understand but did care about. And he proved it with his noble deed.
So that's why I would like the first drawing. Because Robo is the (metal) man!
And also, it would be a constant reminder of how bad-ass laser-spin is.

Gimme!

I'd love the Ayla one. She was always my favorite character, which would probably surprise anyone who knows what a stickler for grammar and proper english can be. I love her though because she breaks the cliche of the powerless female who sits in the back row of the party and casts heal spells. Sure, she has a weak heal, but she's also the physical powerhouse, and the only one who can steal stuff. I remember the first time I leveled her up past 75 and noticed she had equipped some sort of special fist when I wasn't paying attention. So yeah. In conclusion-- Ayla strong.

I'd like the Marle one or the Ayla, either or

Basically because the minute I got Ayla in my party and Marle was there too, it was like an unstoppable team. I had an Aura WHirl to heal everyone if need be, then Ayla's powerful normal attack and we just completely owned anything that came in our way. Marle does sort of get put back to the healer ofthe group, but then Ayla joined, another female, and breaks the stereotype of the female characters being the mage

I don't want any drawings.

Just saying I always pronounced it Mar-lee, even though it doesn't really make sense.

Sorry, guys. Please don't burn me at the stake...

haha, I didn't even remember that happened.

Nice, everyone. Pendelton, yikes, cool as it was you might have been a bit more vague in your haste to post. Granted it's an old and well known game, but it looks to be getting a whole new generation of players. For the others, you can still enjoy this great game, there are multiple endings so there's still some surprises in store!

And so...

CHRONO/ROBO goes to ENOSACHRAN!

MARLE goes to FUSIONTR!

AYLA goes to QALAMARI!

Drop me an e-mail, fishgod(at)mac(dot)com
just include a mailing address and your dtoid handle so I know who gets what. We're on the honor system here so I better only get three emails ;-)

Thanks everyone!

 about me

Who is Super Edco?
Since back from the retro days of yore, anytime a game would let you create a character and name it yourself, I've been using EDCO. It came about as an amalgam of my own names and the fact that an unusual number of games in those days only let you use four characters.

Videogames are a big part of my life. I've been playing and making videogames just about since there was such a thing to be done. My favorite games are RPGs and action adventures, and the rest of that list is a long one indeed.
