"new" super hard games?

I was thinking today about how every single top 10 games list is allways full of old 8-bit titles, and it got me wondering why you dont hear much about last / current gen games in terms of difficulty.

Currently, I'm working my way through Viewtiful Joe 2 on Adult Mode, and man, this game kicks my ass every step of the way. The boss fights are all lengthy and really damn hard. Mostly because it takes you 4-5 times to get used to the patterns, and then its cake as long as you are good at repetition.

Also, Since the release of Ninja Gaiden Sigma, i picked up my old copy of Ninja Gaiden Black to give it a whirl on hard mode. pretty damn rough, but i do better with these types of games. I'm up to the boss fight in the church, i spent hours on that whore...

and last, Devil May Cry 3, Dante Must Die mode...holy shit, i cant get past the first boss on this difficulty. I almost feel like resorting to the special suit for unlimited devil power, but i like games that torture the shit out of me.

I can totally relate. We were just debating if MMOs like Warcraft are more enjoyable because they are easier. Meanwhile I can't finish Super Stardust HD and was contemplating cutting myself in the dark under a red light bulb, crying on the inside so my mascara didn't run.

God/Titan Mode on God of War is pretty balls-to-the-wall.

God Hand. It's pretty damn hard, but the hilarious story and the crazy-fun fighting mechanics really keeps it fun.

hat and the clone fight made me break the rumble pack in my controller =/

i completely forgot about God of War, probably blocked it out of my memory because i spent a week building up to the final boss on god mode, and then during the last fight with Aries MY GAME FUCKING FROZE! the whole clone fight alone took me days, and this happens. i haven't touched the game since, completely turned me off.

number 2 was somewhat easier though, and the boss fights overall were very fun.

@ edarios, lol the same thing happened to me with god of war, there was this level right before pandoras box where you needed to get a statue to lift up a boulder then pull a lever to push the boulder into a wall to get further in the game. THE LEVER GOT STUCK IN PLACE. It was my only save spot, pissed me off enough to stop playing it.

If I get stuck in most games, I just say "Screw it, I don't give a fuck." Viewtiful Joe 2, FF X, Prince Of Persia: WW, and others all sit there because I'm stuck and I don't give a flying fuck.

My brother got so mad at games sometimes that he would literally bite the controller. His dreamcast controller is chewed up to hell.

i dont have any full functioning controllers.

most have taped and re-taped cables. One is missing the R2 button, its just like a hole and you have to press the rubbery part deep inside. the one with the rumbe pack actually moves around and slides inside, and pops into two pieces now when i twist it from anger. thankfully I have enough control now to just drop it down on the floor now and beat the shit out of my bed instead XD

Don't you hate it when you're playing a game that suddenly gets impossibly hard and you think to yourself, "I must be missing something" only to find out from a friend that no, it really just got impossibly hard?
