Salutations denizens of the good kingdom of Destructoidistan. My name is Dynomice. I like to think of it as if Mickey Mouse's alter ego was dynamite with a laser beam. I'll try to keep this post short and savory, seeing as this is a gaming website/community, and I'd imagine y'all generally peruse places like this for discussions related to said topic, and not just to read mini-bios like some sort of online speed-dating fiend.
Probably started checking out Destructoid about a year and a half ago. Honestly can't remember what brought me here, but the comedic news posts, volume of features, and sweet community blogs hooked me. I'm sure Dtoid's advertisers would be pleased to know that I pretty much come here to exclusion for video game related media. So a little while back I figured with this being such a sweet place and all, it'd be stupid to not take advantage of its best feature and join the community (legion?).
Guaranteed to blow your mind...
The name that will someday be on my AARP card is Matthew. I grew up in Iowa, but am currently living in Chicago for school/work. I'm easily entertained and will try anything that I estimate won't kill me at least once. My roommates call me an accidental vegetarian because of my non-ideological propensity for vegetables and tofu.
My first memory of video games was watching my dad play Dragon Warrior on the NES while mapping out the dungeons with a marker on pinfeed printer paper. Early on I played NES (Ice Hockey, Super Spike V'Ball, Final Fantasy, Zelda) with my brother and occasionally dad, but it was pretty much relegated to rainy days for the most part. We got a SNES later that didn't get a lot of use. When the N64 came out, my brother and I were at our friends' house just about every other day to play Mario Kart, Goldeneye, or whatever game they picked up from the rental store. My first experience with eBay was when my brother ordered a used PlayStation that smelled like an ash tray; Tekken 3 and Final Fantasy IX ensued. Around that time, I became fascinated with building things and saved up enough to cobble together my first computer out of new and ungently used parts. It ran Warcraft II and it was awesome. Last gen was good memories all around, although GameCube is the only one that still gets dragged out for Mario Kart throwdowns.
Fast forward to now and I have an Xbox360, Nintendo DS, access to my roommate’s PS3, and a computer capable of suckering me into Steam deals. I play just about anything that looks neat, and I mean that in the most literal sense. I'm a patsy for crazy art styles and atmospheric games. I suck at fighting games but play them anyway. FPS's used to be my go-to games for playing online, now it's more likely to be racing games. Civilization IV and Advance Wars are my drunken comfort games. Check out my profile for what I'm currently indulging in.
I'm bad at making favorite lists but I enjoy crazy foreign movies (Oldboy, Kung Fu Hustle, Delicatessen), westerns (High Planes Drifter, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, Jeremiah Johnson), and stuff from the Coen Brothers (Raising Arizona, O Brother, Lebowski). I also like animated films (Miyazaki, anything stop-motion), have an unhealthy obsession with nature documentaries, and prefer Die Hard over Robocop.
Whatever as long as it's not Christian Ska. Also, Kiss From A Rose is the greatest song ever; or at least the greatest song by a person with lupus.
I like to make stuff, although my turnout rate is pretty low. Sometimes I draw, sometimes I paint, sometimes I wood carve. I'm not very good with Photoshop, but I hope to one day plunder the depths of its many menus. I'm currently working on learning ActionScript3 in my spare time. Making something playable is the endgame (pun intended), although that's not happening any time soon.
So that's it. I'll try and post interesting things here in the near future with the hope that others will find them interesting as well. Hit me up on XboxLive or Steam if you want to put your gameface on. Thanks to anyone still reading this for your time, and thanks to Destructoid for being so awesome!
