I've decided to really go out on a limb with this guess. This character was the mascot for a company that competed in the console wars of the
8-16 bit era. No, I'm not talking about Sonic! He's a sure shot, as he's already been confirmed. I'm talking about a character that's a real blast to play:
BOMBERMAN
Moveset
B:
Bomb - Was there every any doubt? Bomberman plants one of his signature bombs. He can lay up to 2 bombs at a time. These bombs do a maximum of 17% damage. Watch out, it'll explode after 3 seconds!
< or > + B:
Bomb Kick - Bomberman plants a bomb, but the attack doesn't end there! He kicks the bomb in the direction he's facing, and it goes in that direction until it drops off an edge, hits an object (and explodes) or a wall (and stops), or slams into an opponent. The bomb will rest against a wall for 2 seconds before exploding. Unfortunately, Bomberman had to tune down the power of these bombs so that he could kick them, so they only do a maximum of 10% damage.
^ + B:
Kangaroo - A kangaroo hops up to give Bomberman a boost in his jump height. This does no damage, but it's a great way to drop bombs on opponents.
v + B:
Land Mine - This move acts just like the power up in Bomberman by the same name. Bomberman lays the mine, then it sinks into the ground! There is a red light that peeks through the surface though... But, if you can catch your opponent in your trap, the attack will do a maximum of 12% damage. You can lay up to 3 of these at a time.
Final Smash:
Dangerous Bomb - Bomberman ignites a large red bomb with a skull painted on it. It's the dangerous bomb! The explosion from this attack is very large, (it would encompass the entire Flat Zone stage from Melee) and it does 45% damage to anyone caught in it. Bomberman can be hit by this bomb, so be careful! After all, why do you think they call it the dangerous bomb?
Bomberman's stage:
Bomberman should feel right at home in this stage:
It's a bomb factory! Well, to be fair it's an abandoned bomb factory. The conveyor belts are still working though; however, the bomb rack hanging from the ceiling is empty. Since there aren't any bombs on the rack, you should try fighting on it! This stage is a standard size stage (The same size as Princess Peach's Castle from Melee).
Hazards:
Someone must've left some raw materials behind, because occasionally a bomb will come down the conveyor belt! Luckily, if you don't run into them, they'll fall into the pits below the conveyor belts. The conveyor belts also occasionally sped up. Be careful, because if it gets too fast you may get swept into a pit yourself! Remember, there are bombs down there!
As popular as Bomberman would be, his inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a long shot. Hudson isn't on
AMAZING terms with Nintendo, but they do have some releases scheduled for the near future. Though, I have a feeling that this is more because of the success of the Wii & DS, and less because they're
BFFs with the Big N.
Most people do associate Bomberman with
Nintendo, and multi-player games in general. The ability to work him into the game as a playable character is there, as I've shown above. Now it's up to Hudson and Nintendo to make it happen for us fans!
Come back tomorrow for more rampant, unfounded speculation as I count down the days until the US release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl!
First Megaman then Ninja Gaiden then Bomberman. That is how my list goes for characters that are long shots.
That picture scares me
Now here's a character well suited to such a game. Good write up dude.
Nice banner. Where did you get it?
It's Ryu Hayabusa, not Ninja Gaiden. And seeing as how he's always in DoA now, I dont think that's likely. Bomberman has also already been in a smash type of game, the weird Hudson/Konami/Takara thing. Then again, Snake was in the game too... and y'know who else was? Simon Belmont =O. Which would make the BEST character from them to still add.
@ Whiteboy
How the hell is Bomberman more suited for the game than Mega Man?
I dunno, the last game ruined Bomberman for me.
@The-Excel:
I'm not really sure. I googled something, and this showed up so I snagged it.
@Whiteboy:
Thanks!
@Wedge:
I'm pretty sure that game was called Dream TV... and it's a DO WANT game for me.
That is such a sick banner. It's like it's for the GBA version of Brawl or something.
Which reminds me, I wish they actually had a costume "change" for every character in the game that would be the original 2D version from their old school first appearances. They could all play the same, but just be in 2D art like Mr. Game & Watch. I think that'd be so damn cool.
I love reading these, keep it up!
Thanks for the encouraging words j00st1n! It's nice knowing that you enjoy the series.
@ Trevor: Did I say in my comment he that bomberman was more suited to smash than mega man? no, i didn't.
That being said, for some reason I in fact tend to think mega man doesn't belong. Dunno why though, just a feeling.
You did say it when you put 2 and 2 together. In another blog you said Mega Man did not fit because he shoots out of his arm or something goofy like that, despite that being pretty much what Samus does as well. But here you say that Bomberman is well suited to Smash Bros. How can you justify that when he does even less than Mega Man?
