Today's character hasn't been mentioned at all when it comes to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. His friends have been around since the Super Mario Bros. 3, but he made his big debut on Nintendo's big new SNES in Super Mario World. That's right, he's a first party character, and I'm sure you've never considered him as a smash character, but that's why I'm doing this series: to think the unthinkable! Who is this semi-obscure 1st party character that you just can't guess, even though he was in Super Mario World? Here's a hint:
Still stumped... well, let's show you his whole face!
It's Big Boo!
B: Ecto-Blast - Big Boo crosses his arms in front of his face, then opens them up flinging a ball of ecto goo in the direction he's facing. This goo will do a maximum 9% damage, and can cause an opponent to slow down to 85% of their normal speed.
< or >B: Boo Charge - This may be the most swingy move in the game! Big Boo will charge forward in the direction he's facing when this move is used. If he hits an opponent that's facing him he'll do a maximum of 5% damage; however, if he hits an opponent that isn't facing him, he'll hit for a maximum of 35% damage! What a back stabber! The reason for the difference in damage is that if you look at Big Boo, he'll hide his face, and therefore won't hit for as much damage. He doesn't like being seen, after all!
^B: Big Lick - Big Boo
licks you very much! When you do this move, Big Boo will stick out his tongue. If it makes contact with an opponent, he'll rise up them, licking them all the way up. Gross! Ghost slobber! This move will hit for a maximum of 11% damage and can be used as a last ditch recovery for a little extra added height.
vB: Turn Invisible - Big Boo laughs, spins, then disappears! He'll remain in this invisible state for 2 seconds. While he's invisible, projectiles will pass right through him. Also, he can pass through solid objects in this state, so be careful you don't hit down+jump while you're on the bottom of the stage because you'll pass right through! Don't worry about having trouble finding him either... you'll still be able to see a faint outline of Big Boo, and if you're playing with your name input you'll still be able to see your name.
Final Smash: House of Boo - All his rowdy friends are coming over tonight! When Big Boo breaks the smash ball, be prepared for a spooky change of scenery. Big Boo will transport the battle to a Boo House, filled to the brim with Boos! 100s of small Boos will flood the stage, doing a maximum of 10% damage to each player hit. The battle will stay in the Boo house for 5 seconds. Unfortunately, there are no edges in the Boo house (it's a house, after all) so noone can be knocked out while in the Boo house. Your opponents should be hurt afterwards though, so take advantage. You can also use this Final Smash defensively, if you're at the brink of death you can use the house to keep yourself from being smashed away.
Big Boo has an inherent ability similar to Kirby, Jigglypuff, and (I'm assuming) King Dedede in that he can "float jump" up to 5 times. This makes Big Boo a hard character to get rid of!
Big Boo's Stage:
Was there ever any question? Unlike Big Boo's Final Smash, this stage does have edges at the top, left and right edges of the screen. There's very little architecture involved in this stage, just a floor and two platforms. But the secrets of this stage are hidden where you can't ever see. What could I mean by that?
Hazards: This stage has a pit in the floor that scrolls from left to right. Make sure to look before you leap in this level, as you don't want to accidentally jump into the pit! Also, the two brown platforms in the picture are really chocolate ghosts! As long as someone's looking at them, they'll stay in their chocolate block state. Once you look away from them though, they'll turn into ghosts and start moving around! This stage (though it may seem very static and plain at first glance) is truly a dynamic stage, fit for the king of tricks and pranks; Big Boo!
Sorry that updates have been lacking the stage image... I just haven't had the time or resources these past few days (with the madness of the holidays) to get in there and shoop some stages. I should have the image for this stage and Blanka's stage up around 9 or 10 tonight.
Come back tomorrow for more rampant, unfounded speculation as I count down the days until the US release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl!
As always, if you've missed any of the old updates due to the holiday season (or just want to go back and read or discuss about your favorite predictions) then just go here. I'll keep the links current, so you can bookmark the page and check back later for any updates.
while i do believe boo and shy guy are long overdo for smash bros. fame, the title made me hopeful that you had done secret of mana characters.
how could boo fall though?
Man this is great. I enjoy reading these.
Thanks for the encouraging words Holyetheline. Seeing a positive reaction to this really is making writing the news that much easier... I just finished writing three more today at work.
@bottled dark
If he fell through something while invisible, then became visible, and only had a jump or two left in his 5 jump float, then he'd fall... it is unlikely though.
we need some people to get on making Super Smash Bros. Dynamic Brawl.
Boo is one of my favorite characters from the Mario universe, I like him even more than Shy Guy.
If Boo can play soccer without legs, he can do anything!
PICTURE GET! Damn, that was later than expected. Life has a way of delaying my obsessions...
