A relative new comer to the Nintendo universe, today's fighter may be more likely than you'd imagine. He's a pretty unique character from one of the Wii's flagship titles. He's also from a line of games that is sorely under represented in the Super Smash Bros. universe. Today's character is the shape shifting robot:
Ghor!
B: Plasma Beam - Ghor shoots a beam of white hot plasma! This move does a maximum of 15% fire damage, and shoots straight forward for a distance of about as far as Link can throw his bomb. Watch out, this move is hot! But, how does he keep his gun from melting?!?
< or >B: Shield Bash - Ghor is enveloped in a protective shield prior to charging forward in the direction he's facing when the move is used. This move does a maximum of 8% damage once it makes contact. If someone breaks Ghor's shield while he's doing this attack, he'll gain "shield break" status where he'll be vulnerable to attack until he can shake it off. It would take about 50% damage to break the shield though, so don't be too worried when using this move.
^B: Jet Boost - Ghor activates his boot's jet thrusters for an extra bit of oomph in his jump. This move can actually damage any opponent that is caught in the flames coming out of his boot. The flames do a maximum of 9% damage and, as expected, this move can be used as your "triple jump". What a well rounded attack!
vB: Top Spin - Ghor spins in place, deflecting 3/4 of the damage that would be dealt to him from an attack. The deflection is shot off at an angle based on where Ghor was hit, and at what angle the shot came in from. There's a 1% chance that the attack will hit Ghor in the head, doubling the damage dealt to him! Don't abuse this move, or you'll regret it!
Final Smash: Hyper Mode - Ghor enters into his Hyper Mode. This change gives him upgraded strength and speed! This Final Smash does nothing on it's own, but it does make Ghor's hits do double damage and he'll move at 1.3 times his normal speed. When Ghor is in Hyper Mode his weapons are also slightly modified. The Plasma Beam is bigger (but not longer) and 2 missiles (that do a maximum of 10%) are shot from Ghor's back when this move is used. Finally, his Shield Bash becomes more powerful as well, now homing in on the closest opponent. However, his Top Spin move actually now has a 50% chance of taking double damage, so don't sit back and play it defensive... you've got to go all out!
Ghor's Stage:
Ghor's Stage takes place on Elysia... a planet he could certainly call home. This planet is also known as "Skyworld" and it is completely inhabited by steam bots created by the Chozo eons ago. This stage is a real breath of fresh air! It's got a zip line platform that travels across the zip line that goes across the top of the stage. This platform comes in from the left side of the stage and leaves on the right side of the stage. Try to lure an opponent onto this platform and trap them there so they'll be carried off of the stage for a KO! Aside from the zip line platform, there is one main platform that's big enough for all four brawlers, and is supported by a beam of in determinant origin on the left side of the screen. Finally, there is also a floating platform on the right side of the screen, that's powered by little jet blasts. The floating platform rises and falls slowly during the battle, and is about big enough for two players.
Hazards:
From time to time some flying steam bots will appear to do "repairs" (no part of this stage can be broken, by the way) to the stage. If you happen to cross paths with these machines, they'll do a maximum of 5% damage to you. If you get stuck under the rising and falling platform as it's rising, the jets that it's using to rise will do a maximum of 7% fire damage to you. If you're hit by this hazard, you're probably doomed, but keep on trying! Also, as mentioned above, you can be carried off of the screen by the zip line platform if you're not careful.
Ghor may not seem like the most likely candidate for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but he does have a few things going for him. First, he's a first party character. This alone increases his chances above most of the characters highlighted in the
"... days until Smash!" feature. Second, he's a unique, non-monster entity from the Metroid universe. I think it's completely possible that one of the many bounty hunters introduced in
Metroid Prime: Hunters (and more recently in
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption) will be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, considering the lack of representation the series has. Third, Ghor (unlike most of the other new hunters introduced to the Metroid universe) is very much unlike Samus. Most of the hunters from Prime: Hunters have an ability similar to Samus' morph ball, and Gandrayda or Rundas really wouldn't work very well in the game as their unique abilities don't really translate well in the world of Smash. Given those three points, I'd say it's a good bet that Ghor may appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl!
Come back tomorrow for more rampant, unfounded speculation as I count down the days until the US release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl!
What do you guys think about the new name format? Should I keep the character's name in the title, hint at it, or hide it all together?
definitely better as a hint. Love your posts man, always a fun read =)
Ghor would be a great addition to the game. Excellent.
