Today's character is another really out there prediction. Really, I just made this character to see if it could be done. It's a giant metal monstrosity that will certainly be bigger than anyone you've ever fought with before. Today's character is:
METAL GEAR!
Well, technically, it's Metal Gear Rex... but I just couldn't help making the Metal Gear Solid reference.
B: Anti-tank Missiles - These are your typical tank destroying Missiles. These missiles come out of the top of Metal Gear Rex and they go towards the ground at a 45 degree angle. You can hit down after shooting to shoot the missile at a 67.5 degree angle, or up after shooting to shoot the missile at a 90 degree angle. These mega missiles hit for a maximum of 30% damage.
< or >B: Jet Boost - Metal Gear Rex gets mobile! He fires up the jets and shoots off in the direction he's facing to slam into his opponent for a maximum of 22% damage. If an opponent is caught in the fire, they can be hit for a maximum of 28% damage, depending on how long they're in the fire.
^B: Stomp - Metal Gear Rex raises it's giant metal leg, and then swiftly stomps it down. How brutal! This move does a maximum of 40% damage... that is, if you can catch anyone underneath your giant metal leg!
vB: Free-Electron Laser - Metal Gear Rex is charging his laser beam... it's coming right this way! There is a 1.5 second delay in the time you input this move until the time it actually happens, but this is heavy artillery after all! The laser shoots from Metal Gear Rex's mouth at the ground at a 45 degree angle and he runs the laser until the end of the platform that it hits. If you're hit by this bombastic beam, you'll take a maximum of 45% damage.
Final Smash: Malfunction - Metal Gear Rex hops into the background of the scene. What's he doing back there? No, not the nuclear stockpile! Fortunately, it won't be a nuclear winter this year, as instead of unleashing hell upon the world, Metal Gear Rex malfunctions, falling towards the screen and landing in the middle, doing 65% damage to anyone caught under the crushing weight. Now that Rex is temporarily out of commission, he is vulnerable to attack. But he's not completely defenseless! Out of the cock pit comes Liquid Snake! Liquid has all the same moves as Solid and he'll remain out of the Metal Gear Rex for 45 seconds while the repairs are being done, before rushing back to the cock pit.
Metal Gear Rex is a serious power fighter. With no triple jump, and permanent metal status, he's not very mobile, but he sure packs a powerful punch! Use his Final Smash to counteract his oppressive size against opponents that are too hard to hit.
MG Rex's Stage:
It's Big Shell! Since Shadow Moses Island is already being used, I figured that this stage would be the next best option. This stage is based off of the rig from Metal Gear Solid 2. It's got a main platform with bridges running out from it in both directions. Don't worry, you won't see Raiden running around... (Though, that would make a funny alternate costume for Snake!) The stage is pretty basic, looking very similar to Link's Eldin Bridge Stage.... until we get into the hazards.
Hazards:
The action in the Metal Gear Solid games is explosive... literally! Periodically, the bridges on this level will blow up. First, one bridge will blow up and you'll be left with the middle piece and the other side... then the other side will blow up! Once you've been in the middle for a while, the stage will twist so that you'll have access to the other two bridges. There are six bridges connecting to the center platform, and once they're all destroyed you'll be in for some close quarters combat!
I know I said Crono wasn't a very likely inclusion in the game, but I'd say that Metal Gear Rex's inclusion is even more unlikely. Maybe as a boss character, you'll fight a Metal Gear... but I'd say that the chances of getting to control one are pretty slim. Even though we probably won't see him in the game, you can't deny the appeal. Could Samus take down a Metal Gear Rex on her own, just like Snake? Could Mario, Link, or Sonic do it? Plus, a giant metal character would play completely differently than any other character, and the more varied the characters are the better. We better cross our fingers and our toes for this one!
Come back tomorrow for more rampant, unfounded speculation as I count down the days until the US release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl!
As always, if you've missed any of the old updates due to the holiday season (or just want to go back and read or discuss about your favorite predictions) then just go here. I'll keep the links current, so you can bookmark the page and check back later for any updates.
For the lack of updates to Dojo... these really hit the spot. Love the effort.
Big Shell would actually be a cool level for something like this, but Rex was in the first one, not the second. I could be wrong about that, but I'm not sure. Keep up this blog dude, I enjoy seeing what you think would be cool in the game.
@EDSRW
He was in the first one, but if you remember they actually said that the Army was producing REXs, the Marines were producing RAYs, and the Navy was producing ARSENALs.
This is truly fucking epic. I've been internetless for the past week but I'm immensely impressed. Going back to reread them all.
Thanks Cowzilla!!! That really means a lot to me!!!
So fucking epic
Ok just got done, even more awesome then I thought. Fucking epic stance still stands.
Well, Cowzilla, keep coming back... I put a new one up every day at around 5:30.
