Things I wish my ps3 could do, rather than HOME

I know everyone's gonna have their focus on HOME right now, and why shouldn't they? I mean its a neat service, and I could easily trade wasting time on HOME than on some stupid unbeatable flash based tower defense game. But thats not the point, the point is I still think my ps3 is a beast of a machine, though the people in charge of its direction have their heads up their asses.

When did we ever *ask* for home ? internet browser ? better speeds than IE 7? NEVER!!! thats when. And don't get me wrong these are all good things to have, but it feels like someone wanting to go get a sandwich while his house is on fire . TRUST ME, wait on the fucking sandwich, you have other things to attend to.

So while I still love my ps<3 here are a few things why I can only guess Japanese IT professional, might be drinking from one fucked up kool-aid.

I'm not going to mention the ability to charge controllers while the system is in standby just because MAYBE from a money making point of view, it makes sense to these assholes

+Cache the backgrounds and music
Seriously, wtf ? I hate thinking I have a *cutting edge* device which thinks installed games, or READ-ONLY fucking blu ray discs are all of a sudden gonna change their background pics or music

+Hotkeys
Please put so much buttons to good use! While in the XMB it would be nice to be able to map something like R2 or L2 some of my most used functions like logging a user out, or opening the playstation store.

+Open things up a bit, XNA kind of platform
How about something like XNA? where anyone develop titles for the psn, surely there wouldd be some crap overflow but something good HAS to come out of so much development time, it just has to.
Okay so this one point may be a my dirty little secret, but I think its something everyone could eventually benefit from.

+Search + Queue while playing media
This THIS! is that something extra that I would ask for, Seeing as this is more of an added feature rather than an already there feature that sucks. I heavily employ my ps3 as media player of choice in parties as I see it hell of a lot more spill proof than my laptop, I just stream the music from my laptop. but I sometime have to skip through 4 or 5 songs to get to some other cooler song, a search and queue feature would simply be kick ass.
The search feature could also be helpful for people with lots of media on their ps3 since its also a hassle scrolling through so much files or folders at times.   read

Resistance2 collectors same price as original (amazon whore)

Hey guys,

I've apparently become the local amazon whore, always posting the deals that I find. Well surfing through the games that I have on my wish list I just noticed that the collectors edition for resistance 2 is priced just the same as the original, so if you .really wanted that chimera action figure but thought it to be to pricey now's your chance.

I don't know if this is some kind of timed deal or the collectors edition just didn't sell well. So this might be something that ends abruptly, limited numbers or whatnot so get it while its hot.

unnoficial dtoid Nintendo Tour coverage

Hey dudes, I recently got news of this event nintendo tour, that appears to be Mexico only (based on city dates). I'm going to be attending the Monterrey city one and I'll be taking the most pictures possible for your viewing pleasure. Don't expect any *news* or groundbreaking announcements, it will only be official merchandise, tournaments and cosplaying(yay) at the most.

I know this probably doesn't interest most, but I'm pretty proud we get these kind of events this side of the border. I hope this event is a hit and Sony and Microsoft try to pickup the pace over here.   read

World of warhammer onlinecraft

Hey for those of you keeping an eye on WAR and were WOW players theres this 'guide' for you to notice the subtle differences for the game. I also want to point out that the game is in open beta form now, and that if you preorder you cant enter the fray 2 day earlier than us humans (4 days if you preorder the elite).

highlights:
+ pvp = war > wow
+ secondary skills(mining,alchemy) wow > war
+ classes war(20) > wow(10)

I know there are some of us wiating for this game, and if I can remember correctly there were plan to be on the 'chaos' side if anyone cares to join us for some skullbashing fun.

Game industry going to hell, casual gamers still safe

Games up reports to the BBC how game developers in Britain are facing serious shortage on UBER game programming skills. Universities are being blamed for not giving the proper courses or having gone 'light'. The article also mentions what I think is an interesting point on how the level of asbtraction programmers use now, is not proper at all.

Basically what they're saying is either universities aren't cutting it, or people are just total numbnuts and are wasting their time playing games, or are total nubs.

NOTE:printer unrelated

Being a programmer myself and only one semester away from graduating, I clearly remember the introductory course and the career director asking "How many here want to be game programmers ?" and like 60% of all the generation(maybe like 70 people) raising their hands including me. "Well, best case scenario only 2% of you will ever get their" I remember being totally shocked!

He was telling me that my main goal was hard as fuck to obtain and as the years went by, I came to really understand why this is so. You see my university focused mainly on java programming because according to them "it's what the big companies are telling us they need" and they were right. Universities are focusing more on a different industry which is CLEARLY not the gaming kind.

They are still giving hardcore java, but now they are also letting you decide between C# or java when you develop your school projects, which seem to once and for all kill the C++ development @ the university. For the less tech savvy this might sound like "bla bla bla I'm a noob bla bla bla" but explaining virtual machines and language interpretation would mean me overkilling your puny brains, so I'll try and keep it simple. The newer the programming language we use is, the more resources it needs (memory, CPU, bawlz) this causes data overhead and you can't really make games run as smooth (30 fps, or 60 for the zealots).

Are we gonna have to see radical changes in the gaming industry ? Are more and more companies start to develop mediocre games ? here's to wish for the best.
