Destructoid - DtoidLosAngeles's Community Blog

About Me
This account is here to let all of the Los Angeles area Destructoid members know what is going on not just in the world of Destructoid, but specifically in our hometown. Parties, get-togethers, conventions, industry events, whatever. This blog will keep you updated on what be the haps.

All of our party planning and hanging out planning happens on our Google Group! To join, just head on over to the group site and request membership. Please include your real name, Dtoid name, age, and location in your request.

If Google Groups aren't your style, then check out our Facebook group! It serves a similar purpose to that of the Google Group. We will try to keep both updated with goings-on.

If you care to, add DtoidLosAngeles to your Friends List, so that the events show up in your "New stories from friends' blogs" section rather than getting buried.

Additionally, if you add DtoidLosAngeles to your XBox Live Friend List, you can use the "friends of friends" feature to check out other Destructoid members in the area.

Jealous that you don't live in LA? Check out our friends and see if there's a NARP happening near you soon!

Nerdcore calendar 2010 launch party on Wednesday, October 28th
DtoidLosAngeles | 12:49 PM on 10.13.2009 6 comments

Hello there DtoidLosAngelinos (and other people reading this, unfortunate enough to not live in Los Angeles). It's been awhile since we've last brought you news of parties/events. Truth is, you ought to join our Google Group if you want to keep totally abreast of goings-on (or to simply partake in the email shenanigans that go on daily). But we still maintain this blog for bigger, more public events, and one is coming up.

The fourth annual Nerdcore Calendar launch event is set to occur on the 28th of this month, at Royal Clayton's English Pub (click for directions). Fitting that it is near Halloween, because this year's theme is horror (those paying attention will know that 2007 was retro games, 2008 was superheroes/villains, and 2009 was science fiction). Several of us went as a group for last year's launch party, and if you need any convincing about it, refresh yourself with this lovely blog by Mr. Chad Concelmo.

Unfortunately, the press release we received made no mention of free drinks for this one as there were in previous years. It is unclear whether this means that there will be no open bar, or if they simply aren't advertising this so people don't just come for the booze. Still, there will be models there for calendar signing, music provided by DJ R-Rated, and ghosts, allegedly.

If you want one of the calendars, you can buy one from http://www.totallynerdcore.com, and either have it shipped to you, or if you're in the area, pick it up at the launch party.

Don't know if I'll be able to make it this year, and I definitely won't be buying a calendar (despite their fantastic production). Turns out that naked woman calendars are "luxury spending" and they are some of the first things that get axed from a budget when you are unemployed.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
