As we hit the eye of the winter-season storm here in Chicago, the city tends to stay locked in doors. Sometimes even more so with gamers, who already have a spot worn in that couch or chair. So let's break up that sedimentary monotony!
The Room screening
Where: Music Box Theatre Chicago
When: Friday, February 11th, at 10:00 pm
Cost: $15
For the uninitiated, The Room is an exercise in entertaining bewilderment. Released in 2003, the film entered the world rather unceremoniously, but has received a second life as a new cult classic. It exists as a baffling shining star of the "so bad, it's good" film genre. Poorly-written, but quotable. Awkwardly filmed, but watchable. It's a mystery.
In Chicago and particularly at the gorgeous Music Box Theater, the film has become a monolith event. The 750 seat gorgeous amphitheater built in the late 1920s fills to full capacity with attendees. They shout lines, toss footballs lazily in the aisles, and hurl spoons at the screen. It's the jokes that come with watching a bad film on the couch with your friends x1,000.
But it gets better. This upcoming screening will have a special guest.
TOMMY WISEAU himself will be there to join his fans in the viewing of the film. He'll be signing things and tossing footballs. You can even get your very own Tommy bobble-head. Fan or not, this is the time for you to come out and see The Room.
Unlimited Gaming Blowout
Where: Ignite Network
When: Monday, February 21th 8:00 PM - 2:00 AM
Cost: $15 (Or, possibly a reduced rate if you guys show up!)
There were times when gamers yanked the cords out of the back of their PC, blew the dust off the top of the case, and lugged ludicrous amounts of equipment to the pal's garage or basement in great numbers. They gamed, they shouted, and they ate themselves that much closer to death in terrific junk food. But with online gaming evolving and growing in its convenience, our trash-talk and insults has moved to a headset. Technology is a wonderful thing, but you should lament the loss of this tradition.
But you don't have to.
Ignite Network is a computer gaming LAN center, complete with a full suite of high-powered desktops, consoles on big screens, and Rock Band gaming studios! These sort of gaming centers are a dying breed, so let's not squander the opportunity! And to top off the perks, every Sunday through Thursday night, Ignite offers an unlimited gaming special!
For $15, you can play for six total hours, an amazing rate, from 8 PM to 2 AM. This gives you access to ALL THEIR EQUIPMENT. But it gets better, because the great men behind the face of Ignite are Destructoid fans themselves and they're offering a
20% to ALL packages during our upcoming event there on the 20th! This means the traditional $15 pack gets knocked down to $12!
They don't have to do this, but they want to support the fledgling Dtoid Chicago! So hop in a car, grab your friend, and look for this nerd to get six hours of fancy gaming without a dime from your pocket spent.
