DEAR GOD.
I finally understand
I know exactly what Hideo Kojima intended when he released Metal Gear Solid 2.
I've analyzed MGS2 bizare, otherworldy, fantastical, stupid, ridiculous, insane, and politely meterosexual storyline... and I finally understand why that game is veritable artistic triumph.
If you scroll down to other posts here, you know I've got a thing for long blog posts.
Coming soon: A blog post for the ages: a veritable master's thesis on the ending of MGS2....and why it's the fullest expression of Hideo Kojima's artistic vision.
Coming soon....you paid for the whole seat.....but you'll only need the edge.
DEAR GOD ITS EXPLODING AGAIN.
SIX TIMES NINE IS FORTY-TWO
SIX TIMES NINE IS FORTY-TWO
...Also, Droll floats in the sky the exact way that bricks don't.
Which goes pretty much exactly against what Kojima has said. It's about 70% bullshit, 30% interesting.
Thanks for pointing me towards that MGS2 piece! I think he kinda has the right idea.Post-modernism is exactly the literary movement I'd associate with MGS2(The Colonel does have that line from the wasteland: This is the way the world ends...)
It seems to me, however, like the author focuses on the general criticism of the game(We hate Raiden!)
What I'll try to do is analyze the story, and, (best of all!) how it converges with gameplay. I'm gonna try to prove that MGS2 is a successful artistic statement in the sense that it actually "says something" about the world and about the medium.
(Cause it's there. And it's amazing.)
The article won't be done too soon. But, just to give you guys a hint as to where I'm coming from, I think part of Kojima's genius is how he totally played fans of the franchise, how he has literally made his career by making fun of the fans who love his game. MGS is a series DRIPPING in irony.
And if you don't think Irony fits with Metal Gear's "Super Serious story", remember that the series is a Japanese developed game about an Anti-Nuke American.
Yeah.....thats good stuff.
My problem with that game is it's just not that fun. I played it for about two hours, got bored, then forced my at-the-time housemate to finish it for me because I liked the story but hated the gameplay.
Sadly, MGS4 doesn't look that different.
Any of you guys interested in playing the game for me to watch? I'll buy it for you and everything. Just don't make me play it.
You'll have to come to Utah. But I'll let you vicariously game through me.
You should thank god for youtube, man. There are crazy people out there(and, as a fan of the series, I mean crazy awesome) who have put up ENTIRE MGS GAMES! You can just watch other people play, and than go right to the cut scenes. I spent a good portion of the past 2 nights watching the best parts of MGS2. They don't always look good, but boy howdy do they convey Hideo Kojima's personal brand of crazy.
Just Youtube MGS and you'll be sure to find it!
