Preparing for this week and beyond.

Going through the last week was pretty hard. I don’t know how but I know that I will have to do things differently. Right now I am doing fine because I have been keeping myself busy keeping my mind off of my mom having cancer and going through all of the doctor appointments. What I have been thinking though lately is that if I should go to school next semester. I am leaning toward not going this semester obviously to take care of my mom. I figure if I can’t focus on playing a game there’s no way I would be able to focus on school work. Also in my college life I have gone to the part where I can’t just take regular bull crap classes and actually have to major into something which I never really figured out what I wanted to do since all of this stuff happened. I think the most I can do right now is just get a part time job and work in between my mom’s doctor appointments.

My mother’s birthday is coming up next week on the 27th and I have been thinking of what I could get her because as it looks right now her surgery is probably going to happen sometime this week so she we will be recovering at home when that day comes. The best thing I could think of is getting a subscription to Netflix so we would be able to watch the streaming movies on my 360 with her. But I want to just give her more than that; I want to get her something real special. I’ve been talking with a lot of people; ask for suggestion from my friends and even people on Destructoid. What I have been thinking of getting my mom but I wasn’t really sure of was getting a certificate to a Day Spa. Someone also said I could like make something for my mom like a collage of pictures which I don’t think would be a good thing for her because I bought her a digital picture frame for her last Christmas which already has a crapload of pictures in it. *Sigh* I don’t know I think I will be able to think of something by the end of the week.

I haven’t given up on video games completely though guys they still can be fun for me. I played a bunch of Mega Man X and original Mega Man collections on the ps2. I am still surprised on how awesome Mega Man is still today for me. I’m going through fallout 3 a little bit but what I would like to make a couple more comments on is Ys Book I and II.

I never really played anything T16 related at all back in the day so when I downloaded Ys Book I and II on my wii I came to this as a brand new game. I was really surprised on how the music was, for me I think it’s just as good as any of the music from any of the SNES rpgs. The only thing I had problems getting used to in the game is the combat. There isn’t an attack button at all you basically just run into monsters which is beyond weird to me, once I got used to the way you fight I really got into it. I had a lot of fun just plowing into dudes and leveling up super fast. But ya, all in all though I am really happy that I got this game on virtual console.

I’ve received a lot of responses from quite a bit of people from Destructoid community and the one message I get the most is this “Be positive,”. I’m going to try whatever I can to get to an optimistic attitude and staying there. So I will leave you guys with a picture of me and my dog trying to channel some Chad Concelmo.

That's me about 5 minutes after I got out of bed.

(I also would like to add that I made a link to my previous post if you would like to send any well wishes to me or my mother on the About Me section, if you have already posted on there feel free to do it again if you feel like it I don't mind.)

Whenever I want to do something nice for my mom I like to just plan a whole day for just me and her, maybe my brother and sister too. I don't know what your mom likes to do but a perfect day for my mom would be breakfast in bed, an early morning hike followed by a picnic for lunch, a movie in the afternoon to relax and then dinner in a nice restaurant. Plan something like that with activities your mom likes to do and I think that would be the best present you could ever give her.

I hesitate to tell you not to go to school but taking a semester off never hurt anybody. But make sure it's just a semester. Any more than that and you may never go back, which wouldn't be good. Just give yourself a semester to take care of your mom and take care of yourself. You'll have time to spend with her and time to think about possible majors for yourself.

Also, that is such a cute dog. What's his/her name?

Scruffy, I don't really know what kind of breed he is but he's about 7 years old.

Does your Mom game? Does she like crossword puzzles, simple puzzle games? I wonder if a DS would be a nice gift for her?

I've had several surgeries for a pre-cancerous condition and find that playing some form of interactive game really helps alleviate much of the pain and discomfort during recovery - mostly because the mind is active and not focusing on the pain. Movies and TV just didn't do this for me (unless it was a really involving, riveting movie), but gaming seemed to be really helpful.

Just a thought!

@Elsa

No not at all. The most I got her into was tetris on the original gameboy in the early 90s, it wasn't until 1 vs 100 Live came out on xbox live that I got her remotely into something game related even if it's just me hitting the buttons and she's just helping me answer the questions.
