I’ve been really busy, but I figured that right now would be a good time to tell everyone what I have been doing. Two weeks ago my mom started chemotherapy for breast cancer. I was assuming the worst that week but it turned out to be not as bad as I originally thought it would be. My mom was only unable to do anything for like two days, but after that first week she was able to go back to work. Last Friday my mom had her most recent checkup and the doctor said that the cancer is shrinking which is great news.
I didn’t really take the first week well though, at the end of each day I would just be really depressed in my room being unable to sleep because I was so worried about my mom. I know that I really don’t have a reason to worry because they caught the cancer early enough, but it doesn’t seem to help. But don’t worry I’ve gone to the doctor and they gave me some anti-depressants for that. I know they don’t completely solve my problems but they do just enough for me to get through the day without losing my mind.
But enough about that, let me talk about games now. The usual first person shooter hasn’t been doing it for me. So I’ve been going through my game collection and I’ve been going through phases where I will play only my virtual console games on my wii, or I will play a couple of the RPGs that I have for my ps2. I haven’t been able to just go play one game and stick with it. But just recently I’ve been really hooked on a game that I bought a couple of days ago.
I don’t know why I like this game, but I just dig it a lot. I thought I would take a chance on it after seeing the main page post on Destructoid on the price drop. I figured that since I got both Persona 3 and 4 based solely on the fact that I kept reading about them on Destructoid that this game has to be just as good, and god damnit I was on the money about that. I got the last copy at Gamestop too with the plushie. So I would like to thank the people of D-toid for talking about Devil Summoner 2 so much that it ended with me buying it.
I also downloaded Turtles in Time:Reshelled on XBLA. I feel really dumb getting it because I didn’t really enjoy playing it after the one time I completed it. It just doesn’t feel the same compared to the SNES version that I know and love. Oh well, there’s always Splosion Man to keep me busy if I wanna play some XBLA.
Again I would like to thank everyone in the D-toid community for their kind words and recommendations for different games or movies that I should check out. The next game I got coming in the mail this week is a new copy of The Red Star for ps2 so I’m hoping that will be good.
Good to hear your mom is getting better. A shame you didn't enjoy Re-Shelled because I like it.
Best to your mom. It's a terrible thing that nobody should ever have to go through, but it sounds like we're talking about strong-willed people with good heads on their shoulders. That's a blessing that shouldn't be ignored.
I'm so tempted to pick up Re-Shelled, but it has been absolutely decimated in so many reviews. But, like, it's Turtles, right? I mean, I know exactly what it is, and can't understand why everyone was so surprised that it was a generic beat 'em up. Gahh!
That's great news about your mother!
I may have to cave and pick up Devil Summoner 2 as well -- especially with a price drop!
@suitcoatavenger
well the thing is that I have so many fond memories of the SNES version of turtles in time that playing this remake where they have change a fair amount of things, it just didn't feel the same for me.I wish they could of just rereleased the original game.
Man I really gotta start that copy of Devil Summoner 2.
*hugs* Hang in there. When I've been really down games have always helped, I hope they do for you too.
@DREL;
Are there extensive changes to the game beyond the updated graphics? I wasn't aware of that... if they've changed the game in a significant way, that might keep me from picking it up. I'm with you, I have a lot of fond memories of the OG Turtles in Time.
Nice to hear that your Mom is doing well with the treatments!
Yeah, lots of Dtoid people seem to be recommending that Devil Summoner game! Good to hear you are enjoying it! (and escapism is sometimes better than antidepressants!) :)
@suitcoat
I sent you a PM with a list of some the big changes that I've seen playing it.
I've been praying for you guys. Hope those claim checks start rolling in.
Glad to hear from you again! I just picked up DS2 on Friday and only started it last night, but I really like it so far as well.
Drel you have MvC 2?
We'd love to play some of that with you on the FNF or SRK Saturday. More people = funner.
Yeah, um... Drel just saved me some money. Those are some terrible changes.
I'm glad to hear your mom is doing better! I hope for the best for you and your mom.
Glad the treatment is going well for your mom -- Hang in there, I'm sure things will get even better soon.
As for Turtles In Time, yeah, it's not as good as the SNES one, since this one is based on the original arcade version.
Glad to hear things are getting better, stay strong buddy :D
Glad to hear good things about your Mom dude.
Also, you're spot on about TMNT. It was absolutely soulless. my wife and I LOVE mindless beat 'em ups, but after one playthrough of this game we just looked at each other and realized we didn't actually have fun.
Great to hear your mom is doing better. Hopefully the good news keeps on coming for you ^_^
