Apparently, yes. It was revealed some time ago that My Chemical Romance (jesus christ) will be performing a cover of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row", and it will play during the credits of Watchmen. Ugh.
Jackoff Gerard Way said "I don’t want to say too much but as far as the placement right now, it’s integral to the ending of the film... And that gave me goose bumps, and not because we did the song, but because it works that well I feel. I’ve seen the part that we’re integral to - we’re talking about the very end"
Will this end badly? Of course it will!!! Why the fuck would thy let this kind of shit happen!? Did Zach Snyder and co. snooz through the meeting where this was passed!? He's got creative rights to the film as well; he could stop this kind of shit from happening! Jesus!!!
..Oh well, there's nothing I can do. At this rate Linkin Park will be doing the opening for Blade Runner 2. Shit.
RRRAAAAWWRRRRRR!
it tastes ok.. but dosent seem right.
A lot of of people also only see the emo part, but, the majority of their songs aren't as much emo as they are a story being sung. Hell, even back to one of their earliest albums with a song called "Early Sunsets over Monroeville" which seems all baawwww is really all about zombies.
And they also have solid stories that branch albums. "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love"
and "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" are the first and second installments in a story about two lovers who killed for fun, died, and escpaed hell, to do it all over again.
And of of course, The Black Parade, which minus one or two songs, is the retelling of dieing cancer patients life.
Not to mention Gerard Way writes a comicbook that is pretty good called "The Umbrella Academy" about a group of superpowered siblings.
So, I could see the raging if it was some pop-punk band, or soldier boy, but, MCR fits this movie, probably better than most others. It wouldn't fit the comic version, but the movie is set-up darker, and I think it would fit great.
I have listened to the band, I have heard The Black Parade, and I found it quite tasteless. When bands(MCR included) make their public image more important than writing decent tunes, it goes for nothing. It also makes your band look bad when you pretend to be deeper than you really are. It backfired on Rise Against when the lead singer admitted that the whole vegetarian/go green shit was fake. Now look at them.
I say this is a terrible idea because instead of putting the duties(lol) in the hands of an able composer, they place it in the webbed hands of an asshole who gets pissy when his hair isn't as wavy as he wants it to be. This is the reason why Alan Moore wants to kill himself every night.
Major comic movies always have a popular band playing the end credit song. Transformers, Spiderman, etc. It's done to tie in the soundtrack with the movie for bigger sales. An able composer is used throughtout the entire movie, and wont even be acknowledged, simply because that is what they do. The Craft and The Crow have brilliant scores, greated by Graeme Revell. But all you remember from The Crow is the STP song from the ending credits.
I honestly never really cared much about public image, because its never been my thing. I know I'm in the minority, but I could give to shits what the guys hair looks like, as long as he keeps making music.
But to each his own. Good arguments!
Now don't get me wrong. What Alan Moore did with Watchmen, made leaps and bounds in the right direction for graphic novels, and that is amazing, and I am grateful for it. But if you really sit back and read the story again, its filled with useless plots, empty back stories, and a lack luster finale.
As free touch said, to each their own. I personally feel as if the term "emo" has become too broad. It's now used by general internet culture to describe anything with even a hint of punk or goth as well as true emo.
As free touch said, to each their own. Calm down, 4chan.
Also, My Chemical Romance don't fall under 'Emo', nor does Linkin Park.
I didn't start this blog because I hate MCR (I do, but that's besides the point), but because, in my eyes as a comic book nerd, MCR and Watchmen shouldn't even be in the same room with each other. Its like if Sean William Scott played Spidey in the fourth movie and made fart and cum jokes the whole 2 hours. It just doesn't belong.
Watchmen is a film that shouldn't need a song by a well known band. There's no justification. Besides, if they are willing to go that far, why not just go crazy. They should have MCR and Juno Reactor do a techno ballad, and Britney Spears can sing about llamas with Trent Reznor.
Damn, I would see that. I'd probably die, but it would be different.
Also Mechamonkey, please don't bring up 4chan. You kinda scared me :)
Thank you, gentlemen. You've made this response quite easy for me.
MCR covering Bob Dylan.
MCR in Watchman.
Or
People using Emo to describe bands like MCR or FOB.
