I Love Thursday
DrWiley | 5:01 PM on 01.24.2008 1 comments

A few weeks ago I purchased a PS3. I was convinced a couple days ago to get COD4 and start playing with some co-workers and I can never resists some good old online MP action.

Reasons why this Thursday rules:

* I get to go home and play COD4 with a bunch of friends.

* Work is almost done and it hasn't been a complete and total waste. I feel like I've accomplished something.

* Playing Rock Band later tonight with a different group of friends. We are FireFist!

* It might snow tonight and I love the snow.

* Devil May Cry 4 demo hit today and I get to download it and check it out.

* I have a free copy of Undertow waiting for me to play as well.

* The week is nearly over and it's been hectic as hell. Too much support.

* No More Heroes will be purchased very very soon.

* I'm sure there are a bunch of other things that I'm excited about, but I have to much stuff bouncing around in my head.

Anyway, if anyone ever wants to play COD4 on PS3 go ahead and friend WetWiley. Usually always down to level up.

Headcrabs: Just hit 'em with the shampoo

So my experience with Half Life 2 the first time about 4 years ago was met with some...well, disappointment. I loved the gameplay (physics especially), visuals, and all around fun that I had. But in the end I was left with an emptiness in my gaming heart due to the fact that my computer couldn't handle the game all that well with everything turned up, but also the lack of an ending.

I'd watched the release of Episode 1 and didn't even consider touching it because of the previous experience with HL2 with the computer I had. Knowing my PC wouldn't be able to run the game sufficiently I decided to hold off. When I finally got a 360 and The Orange Box was released I decided to go ahead and get my hands on Episode 1 and 2. I popped the disc in and immediately went through Portal, checked out Team Fortress 2, and decided I should probably work my way through HL2 again as a refresher.

After playing for about 20 min. I put the game down and started going through the stack of games I had accumulated during this last Fall rush of games (Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Halo 3: all of which are incomplete with the exception of Halo 3). But 2 months later I decided this is now the game I want to get through and I must say I am having a blast.

The first part of the game is relatively forgettable, save for experiencing those great physics and the intro. But once I hit Ravenholm again I was shitting my pants. Now that I've got a decent system for gaming (ask if you care, most importantly HD!) the experience is like it never was before.

After I trudged my way through Ravenholm jumping at everything that jumped at me I remember what made this game so fun. The puzzles, the killing, the relatively "smart" AI, the visuals, the inevitable acquisition of the gravity gun, and the achievements that spark the idea to actually try new things (getting across the sand without calling antlions was a grueling process).

Alright, I still think the story sucks, the sound effects aren't great (see title), and I know the ending sucks but I'm having fun and I'm extremely excited to finish HL2.

'til the next episode.

I Hate Thursday (headache edition)
DrWiley | 4:57 PM on 01.10.2008 9 comments

I Hate Thursday because it is the day before Friday which is the last day of the week.

I Hate this one specifically because I have had a headache all day and nothing will make it go away.

I Hate the fact that I never have enough time to play all the games that are piling up at my apartment. So much good stuff, so very little time...

I Hate the recommendation system from Netflix because I keep watching horrible movies that their system suggests (Stay away from The Replacement Killers and Kalifornia).

I Hate when release dates get pushed back.

I Hate that I have a shiny new Playstation 3 at home and I can't play it because it's at home and I'm not.

I Hate when stores have strangely odd hours and are never consistent.

I Hate adding to this blog because I'm tired of hate. I want to Love.

Errr....I mean:

My head hurts. :(

Nobody cares (except PS3 fanboys and me)
DrWiley | 5:48 PM on 01.08.2008 19 comments

But I thought I'd write anyhow. I finally broke down and bought a Playstation 3 yesterday. Purchased the 80g and now my gaming collection and entertainment center is finally up to date. While I still love my dreamcast and Colecovision, its time to get ready for the good stuff that is coming.

In addition to the PS3 (Motorstorm included ), I also got Goodfellas and Pans Labrynth. I've got some co-workers who are going to let me borrow Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank but if anyone has any other suggestions of games that are worth checking out, you may as well go ahead and send them my way.

But now I can finally watch HD movies on my HD set with surround system. It's about damn time. I am happy.

No blog is complete without a picture so here it is...

Oh that game...

--Edit--

I'm really looking forward to checking out the remote play stuff with my PSP...and I have milano cookies!

I Hate Thursday
DrWiley | 5:13 PM on 01.03.2008 12 comments

I hate Thursday because its the last day before Friday and Friday is the end of the week.

I hate Sweeny Todd because it was too long and boring (this will be its own post one day).

I hate I Am Legend because it had absolutely nothing to do with the book and I was looking forward to it so very much.

I hate stupid bumper stickers as I'm sure a lot of other people do as well. What drives people to purchase pieces of plastic to put on their car and let the whole world know that they're idiots?

I hate rain when its sunny outside.

I hate horrible budget titles. Do people actually buy those? I imagine people going to the store and picking it up because it's cheap as hell, then holding the title above their head like they have just found an ancient relic buried under a pile of expensive and potentially good games.

I hate Thursday.

Instant What?
DrWiley | 3:35 PM on 01.03.2008 6 comments

So I am heading the community section of InstantAction.com and thought I'd share with the Destructoid people some of the news and cool stuff that you'll be able to do. Rather than write out some lengthy descriptions I'll use bullet points which are easier to skim.

Sign-ups have now begun and what this means you can do is:

-Reserve/claim your username to use when the site goes live
-Earn 500 Action Tokens for registering (unlock new games, levels, maps, weapons, special abilities and much more.0
-Invite friends to create accounts and earn more Action Tokens as well as have them appear in your friends list when we launch
-Follow the list of games that will be on InstantAction
-Familiarize yourself with the interface and get an idea of what InstantAction is all about

In addition we're running a contest for developers. The grand prize includes a publishing contract to get a game of their own on InstantAction, A license to Unity Pro with Asset Server, as well as the entire Torque Suite of game engines. For the full story check here.

Oh yeah, about me. I like video games, destructoids, free stuff, trivia, making music, traveling, and getting outdoors when it isn't raining.

Hoping to post more here as the community and editors make me laugh. I can be funny sometimes so feel free to stop back by.
