Saw this on Gamespy, not sure if I have received this yet because I'm at work!
[i]Dear Xbox LIVE Members:
During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.
As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank you each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.
At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.
Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!
Sincerely,
Marc Whitten

So, although there have been some technical issues with XBL as of late (I personally didn't experience any of my own), once again M$ does something fairly expected and apologizes for the poor performance, and they're going to offer a free XBL arcade game. So that's cool. I know the cool thing would be to jump on the hate train and claim that they should have done something sooner, but to be honest, a week from problem to apology is a pretty quick turnaround.
Well old news is old, and what worries me is that we don't have a choice (from what I gather) in what game we get. Honestly I would have been happy with a free month of Gold, as it's taking them a month to fix... Live is still fucking up.
Man, waiting like 5 minutes to get into a COD 4 match wasn't exactly great. Oh and about SIlent Hill and RE, While I disagree, you win hard for the Bad dude avatar.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
about me
Game consoles I currently own: NES, Playstation, PS2, Xbox, 360, Gamecube, Game Boy Advance SP, PSP, and PS3
Greetings D-toid. My name is Dan and I am a 25-year old gamer with the worst case of game ADD you've ever seen. I used to have a "currently playing" list up here, but I change that so often that it's a pain in the ass to mess with here. And frankly, who really cares?
I love all games, even the shitty ones, but my favorites come from the 8 and 16-bit eras. You know, the standard names that get bandied about on this site, like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 3(6), and Secret of Mana. I also really loved Jurassic Park 2 for the SNES, and if you think I'm joking about that one, I strongly encourage you to NOT emulate it right now. It's like Contra with dinosaurs, and if that doesn't seem awesome to you, then we shouldn't be friends.
If you have a 360 or a PS3, feel free to add me to your list of friends, and I'll be up for playing just about anything.

I had my thoughts on this last week.
