Holy crap... That's awesome that they did that for you.
I, too, hate GameStop, but it's awesome that you stuck it to them and didn't have to bring it back to them in the end. And your new one may well have a nice new sticker on it for another warranty.

That's pretty outlandish. So you're saying your console worked perfectly with everything else but because of GTA IV you're shipping it back for repairs?
While that may be generous of Sony I would wait fro another patch from Rockstar. I too have a 60 gig had a similar freeze as did quite a few PS3 owners and the 1st patch fix that up quick. Unless I'm missing soething i your story I wouldn't trust a guarantee from customer service no matter how sincere.. them 60 gigers aren't in production no more.
To turn one in with a chance of not getting that back for one game..? Screw that. I thought I read somewhere someone's still waiting to get their 60 gig from repairs 5 months still.

@brainderailment
I was just going on what the clerk I bought it from said. He told me that the warranty sticker had been removed, and to make sure I didn't break the gamestop sticker they put in it's place if I wanted a replacement.
@yojimbo
He told me that the 60GB parts were plenty in stock for repairs and replacement, and assured me that I would be getting the same model back. From what he was telling me I don't think there is any other way to fix this. The latest firmware update told that it wasn't for GTA4, and that you needed to call Sony for instructions, so that's what I did. If I remember the story of the guy waiting that long for a 60GB repair was the PAL version of the console, in a different region. I could be wrong.

That's it! We're getting screwed again!! Fuck dammit!
Seriously, that's some service Sony is giving you. But I think they screwed you anyway. Your console isn't broken. They just needed to get one in for repairs. Because They are forgetting how it is done, they need some practice. ;)

@Takeshi
I think it really depends on what the problem is that's stopping GTA4 from working correctly.
It has to be some kind of hardware flaw, as you can bet that if they could fix it with firmware, they would do that instead of replacing a used console for free.
And again, considering that I've been quoted at $170 for out of warranty repairs before, for them to do it for free is impressive.

Sony did sell you the console btw. Sony sold it to gamestop who sold it to you. So in essence they sold it to you. & they're profiting off you being part of the install base for game & movie royalties. No matter where you buy it they're supposed to honor the warranty. Maybe gamestop messed with the sticker because they used to have a one year warranty program where you could exchange it for a new one there. dunno. that suck that they cant just patch it w/ firmware; but its nice that they're going to replace it w/ another 60GB version. Not sure what they're fixing though, doubt they made another 60GB mobo chipset just for GTA. Did they tell u what they were going to do to it?
@Doomtrain ah, didnt know it was used. Still though, you adopting it means you buy games/movies for it means sony's profiting off royalties just the same. so in essence you still did buy it from sony. :p
Sony customer service was pretty quick to replace my 60GB model last year. It took about 3 weeks and I had a new PS3. There was a problem signing back into my PS3 Network ID but they gave me the phone number to the guy in charge and he fixed it in 2 minutes.
@PetiePal
You can't. The sticker separates into the sticker itself and a bunch of "VOID" stamps left behind on the console, it wouldn't look the same reapplied to a different system, or even trying to put it back in place. It's one of those tricky stickers.

I meant they aren't used to the fact that PS3's aren't returned very often. They tend to forget how the bloody thing works. There are some consoles on the other hand...

I'm with y0j1mb0 on this one as pretty much every PS3 is having issues with GTA4 online. Unhook your PS3 from the internet and you can play single player worry free and sweat it out for another patch from R*.
@king3vbo
I think so. I almost ripped off my mattress label and I swear I heard sirens....

@mix
Trust me, I've tried every single possible fix for this, and nothing works. The 12 steps, net connection fiddling, every resolution possible, everything.
@king3vbo
I don't know if it's GameStop that peeled it off. It may have been removed by the previous owner, for whatever reason. I just know that there's a bunch of "VOID" on the side where the sticker should be, and a gamestop sticker in it's place.
