Yeah, I started listening to Hotspot about a month ago at work and thought it was really good. Though I tend to not like Jeff's reviews, I DID like him on Hotspot so it'd be sad to see him go.
I definitely noticed his absence this week and thought it was odd that they didn't even mention he wasn't there let alone where he was.
I went to Gamespot a lot until Rich Gallup left. I really don't know why, but all the media aspects of the site (Hotspot, On the Spot, Tournament TV, etc.) totally lost its touch. It's (was) a fucking shame.
I never really agreed with Jeff on any level, and there was always something about him I always liked, and also things I didn't like. But you know, I'm with him on this if this is the real reason he was fired.
Two things come from this.
Gamespot's journalistic integrity took a massive hit. The second they put advertisement on their front page related to a game, the trust in the review for the game immediately goes out the window. Gamespot has to respond to this, they took a serious hit and it brings into question their previous reviews. Do we not remember that time the PS3 page was full of 360 ads? I'm not saying they're jaded, and being paid by Microsoft, but is it crazy to consider it now?
The second thing that happened, is Gerstmann is now a role model when it comes to objective-based writing and perspective. I have no doubt he'll come back, a man like that doesn't just fade into time, he loves the gaming community too much. He'll start his own website I would imagine.
Good Blog post man, keep it coming.
