MS will ban Halo early birds...
DolphGB | 9:48 AM on 09.19.2007 18 comments

"Pro-G is reporting that Microsoft has stated that it intends to suspend the Xbox Live accounts of anyone found playing Halo before next week’s official release date.

Xbox Live is able to detect what gamers are playing at any given time – and even if they are offline when they play the game, the next time they log on their accounts will automatically be updated with the recent gaming activity."

Tells you everything you need to know about how MS do business... They screw up but you, the gamer, have to pay for their 'supply chain' mistake.

It's not even their fault. The retailers should be held accountable. It's not like all Live users sign an agreement to not play games released early by their local retailers 'cause they're morons. It's not like the dude stole it like the people a few weeks ago. He went to a store and legally purchased it. MS should plug the retail leaks, not kill their fanbase's accounts. End of story.

They really are just punishing the wrong people...

Source links?

I don't buy that.

MS wouldn't punish people who are legally purchasing the game early. That's bull-crap. They didn't pull bans on people who bought Bioshock or GoW early, this shouldn't be any different.

As usual. Thanks Microsoft.

But seriously, all you have to do is use common sense. If you get the game early, unplug the ethernet cable/shut off your router...

see the thing is, when you do play it cable unplugged or not its still on your profile. and it says played x/xx/xxxx. they can look at that is what its saying, and get you when you do inevitably sign into live on the 24th at midnight.

They might or might not, they haven't done so before at least. If you want to be safe, just make a new profile to play it with?

i call bullshit... at least until majornelson or gamerscore blog posts about it...

and even then, like stated above, the gamer isn't doing anything wrong... some may not even know it's not supposed to be on sale yet

so, what, does the console warn them, put up a prompt saying you will be banned if you play? not everyone checks online before they play... so, i'd imagine there would be legal action if people were getting banned for something stupid like this

I hope it's bull. It's not the customers fault that they're able to get it earlier.

Lame. Well that's why you play smart and remove the HD like alot of those people have been doing. :P

And creating a new profile wouldn't work. They ban the console too, when they ban you from Live.

I say there is no way in hell this is true. Microsoft may be slightly evil, but they're not stupid.

MS just backtracked and have said that the ban only applies to MS employees. Internets un-asplode.

I put the source in the blog entry - it's from Pro-G.

P.S. MCV also ran with this story, and they're a serious news company...

But - good news... Microsoft has now backtracked and said they won't ban anyone (well... maybe just their own employees if they are found playing it ahead of time). http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/19-09-2007-6492.html
