Godspeed, Arthur C. Clarke

He was a visionary and an actor, able to both see the future and shape it. He used narrative as a tool to open our eyes to the possibilities open to us, and has inspired countless numbers to respect the power and possibility inherent in our continually advancing technology.

As gamers, we see his mark on every space opera ever created. He dealt with the issues facing a space-faring race thoroughly, exploring scenarios ranging from the alienating effects of time dilation to the horror of our own tools turning against us. As humans, we owe a debt to him for the revolution in satellite communications that he worked so hard to bring about.

The world has lost Sir Arthur C. Clarke, a pioneer in the truest sense of the word. He blazed a trail into unfamiliar territory, leaving behind a map by which we might find our way through the times ahead. One would hope we have the sense to use it.

He wrote the original novel 2001 right? Haven't read the book but the movie is one of my favorites ever.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
