Yes, that's right. A boxed copy of Earthbound for the SNES. And the price I paid for it? 350 dollars.

You might be asking yourself, "Why the fuck did you pay so much?" Especially since I've been emulating it for years now. I'll tell you why. Because it's mint. It's as close to mint as you can get that's just short of it being covered in it's original factory sealed plastic. Everything about is perfect, there is just a tiny bit of wear on the edges of the box, but that's to be expected. When the strategy guide is opened, you can still hear the cracking of the binder and the smell of a book that makes it seem like it's fresh off the presses. The scratch and sniff cards in the back of the book have also never been scratched, as far as I can tell. I actually won it on eBay over a month ago, and didn't get until sometime last week. Turns out there was a problem when the guy shipped it, but still that month in between made me worry that I just blew away 350 dollars on some asshole who just up and ran away with it.

The only thing that really scares me though is that I don't regret this purchase, not even a tiny bit. You'd expect there to at least be a little hint of regret, but no, there isn't any. This is the first time I ever spent so much on something that will just be sitting pretty on a shelf, and I really don't see it being the last.

Radiant Silvergun, I'm coming for you next!

I've never spent that much on game related stuff other than a console, but damn have I been tempted. At least you don't regret it. If you have the cash you may as well get something you love.

haha... never really been an Earthbound fan myself, but your last line got me... I've longed to play Radiant Silvergun for years but I just can't bring myself to pay the outrageous price for a shmup that I'd probably beat in a day. Nothing against shumps, I love them dearly, but they're so short I never feel I really get my monies worth.

Congratulations on spending your money on something that you really love!

I'm thinking about getting into collecting myself. My family didn't have much money, so I feel that as an adult I can begin to gather all of the games I could only dream about as a kid.

I hate you so much right now but kudos on the mintness of the package any minter and it would be unopened.

If I could pass on heat, electricity, cable, and food for a month, I would do the exact same thing. Nice haul!

oooo I'm so jealous right now. Don't worry about not feeling regret, honestly that would be weird if you did. What you have there is a real treasure. Enjoy it.

Hey... I spend $150 on a PAL copy of Terranigma, and another $150 on a modded Super Famicom to run it. I'm definitely not going to judge. ;)

@Miodd - Trust me, you won't beat RSG in a day...IF you go for the one-credit clear on defaults (the true standard of "beating" a shmup). That sucker will beat the living daylights out of you unless you train like a Shaolin monk to conquer it.

@Div - I've spent a decent hunk of money on a handful of games (RSG among them), but methinks your purchase outdistances any single item I've gone after up till now. Enjoy, sir!

I'm actually starting to save up for my own mint copy of Earthbound. Hope I don't get jipped.

I traded a loose copy of Super Metroid for my Nearly-Mint/Complete (it has been used by me, carefully, for many years now) copy of EarthBound. Not that I'm really trying to rub it in or anything, it's just posts like these that remind me how lucky I got in one swift transaction.

Great score though, last time I priced out complete copies of EB I think they were hovering around the ~200 USD price mark. Quite the increase!

Don't let that one go.

Here's mine - partial view!

Man, I really want a copy of earthbound, but have so little cash at the moment... Also, I rarely play my SNES anymore.
But speaking of Radiant Silvergun, there's a store near my house that has a brand new copy for $500. It's way out of my range, but I drool over it every time I go.

My student loan is about 3000USD, can you pay it when you next feel like spending money.

Also, nice find. Scratch and sniff ftw.

This got a better response than I thought it would. Much less "You are a fucking idiot" posts then I thought there would be.

@Smurfee Mcgee: I played through Earthbound literally dozens of times, through Emulation. Though I might give it a spin on my SNES... maybe.

Honestly, as someone who blows a good 25-30% of his paycheck every week, I cannot see myself paying that much for one game, regardless of how rare or mint it is.

Still, congrats on the find.

Wow, that is so nice. I have to say I passed on a complete copy in slightly poorer condiion a few years ago that was only $200 CDN, which is like sticks and shiny pebbles next to what you paid. Impressive resolve to not even feel a little guilty about it.
