Earlier today, the LucasArts Workshop Blog revealed a gameplay trailer for their upcoming puzzle/platformer game, Lucidity. Not much is know about the title yet, but the game has you playing as a young girl named Sofi, as you travel through different worlds in her imagination. It's going to be an XBLA/PC title, and no release date has been set.
The trailer doesn't provide much, just a playthrough of one of the games earlier(I assume) stages. Lucidity has Lemmings-style gameplay where you have to protect Sofi from danger as she automatically makes her way through the stage. This is done with randomly-generated set pieces(think Tetris) that you place before an obstacle so Sofi can safely make progress.The first thing that struck me while watching the trailer is that the graphics are gorgeous. Like watching a children's book in motion. Everything moves so smoothly and with great care to detail, like the small bounce in Sofi's step. The same feeling I get watching this trailer is the same I got when I watched the first trailer for the upcoming A Boy And His Blob remake on the Wii. It's just so cute to watch!
I also get reminded of the FLIPSIDE when I see Lucidity. Why that is... I'm not quite sure. Maybe because both games remind me of The Stinky Cheese Man? Again.... I have no idea why I'm drawing these similarities... whatever. Watch the trailer and peep some screenshots below!
I got excited listening to the Lucasarts boss when he revealed this on Gametrailers last night. Not only does this look great but the way he talks about getting back to Lucasarts golden days and stating his desire to work with Schaffer and Gilbert on stuff in the future made me sqee.
I'm loving the new 2D platformer revolution. This, A Boy and his Blob and Lostwinds 2 are dishing out sweet, tender eye sex and tight gameplay. Looking forward to this.
