I don't think it's gonna get any better. Destructoid's just kind of a big clunky site. It would be slow no matter what. No offense to the gods at be... ** curses underneath his breathe **
Sometimes you click on next 50 comments and it never changes, other times you click on a story and it throws you back to the main page and yes the gallery does suck.
But I'm not that shocked, half-assed is the D-toid way after all.
My opinion on the matter is completely null.
I don't care about it that much. I never look at the pictures anyway.

Well this is still a pretty small site (I think) with a small development team. I'm sure there is no end to the work that needs to be done to keep this site up and running smoothly.
Just be patient, it'll get fixed eventually. And then something else will break...
someone FINALLY wrote on this subject. YES. the way in which you view pictures from a gallery on this website is ARCANE and needs to be updated. please?
It's been on my to-do list for a long time but, to be honest, I don't have the chops to fix it. I only know the basics and copy/paste/break stuff to make fixes -- that's why it takes so long for new features to appear. Luckily one of my good friends is moving from Texas back to Miami this month and will be lending Tom and I a hand again. Hang in there, it's coming! I love Ajax and have been pushing for it for a long time.
That would be like putting a nice set of rims on a dead horse. No offence, but Destructoid, purely from a web design point-of-view, is the clunkiest piece of rubbish to ever grace the webz (while Kotaku is running for pukiest colour scheme ever).
No, I do not volunteer to fix it since I can't even tie my own shoelaces, but I long for the day when someone steps up to the challenge and completely redesigns dtoid so it's no longer a wank-fest for cross scripting and java the hutt. Jesus, seriously. But I love the site anyway.
Well, in retrospect that seemed unnecessary bitchy. Yeah, I think the site is improving over time at least, and it's great that Niero and everyone else is putting so much effort into it. So there, sycophant relativism ftw. :-)

I wouldn't know, I don't go anywhere but here.
Well, I always thought rockpapershotgun.com had a pretty nift design; fast, not much in the way of scripting (basically the whole site works without having to be whitelisted on noscript), and good contrast. Also, I really like that there's no embedded stuff before the jumps to the articles, and, the most ingenious thing, the jump takes you right to where the preview text ended (leaving a line or two so you realise that's where you left off).
Of course, that's only half the deal, since dtoid is mostly about the community interaction and blogs. And honestly, I can't think of a page right now that does this well. If I come across or remember one, I'll point to it, of course. But I realise it's quite a tough thing to put together if you don't have a lot of people to exclusively bother with it and not many sites to take as inspiration.
Anyway, it's great that you're open for suggestions.

I don't need any other site, the Toid kicks all there asses. :)
This is the only site like this site I browse regularly.
That being said, the image gallery sucks. You need a way to change pictures without reloading the page, period.
Also unbreak the mobile version for iPhones, it used to be perfect before the last update.
