Is it time for a change?
Brad Rice | 10:42 AM on 06.06.2008 42 comments

A while ago, there was a discussion amongst the editors about what to do with our names. Despite what some people think, my name is not actually Dick McVengeance. Although it would be plenty cool if it was. It's also slightly less professional when I point someone to my work, and they see that all the posts are done by a "Mr. McVengeance."

But I feel like the name "Brad Rice" just doesn't have that same sort of moxy as Dick McVengeance. You think I need to change my name at this point?

You could live a double life!

By day...Brad Rice, the well-mannered, Japanese speaking game journalist.

By night...Mr. McVengeance, the hentai obsessed, crazy mofo that goes around with his member pretending it is a katana to cut girls in half. Or maybe just do them in with it!

Just pull an ages old "Brad 'Dick McVengeance' Rice" maneuver if you're that worried about it.

The only reason I'd say go for a full rename is the fact that some other editors have done the same since joining, like Samit and J Holmes. I'd say the cool kids were doing it, but... oh snap! Zing.

Also, growing up is a myth. Falva Flav hasn't grown up and he's . . .

OK, right . . .

But KISS was always better when they had the make up on!

If you're realling having a problem, go for it. But I like what having names like Gameboi and McVengance give to the site.

“Brad Rice” is about as far away from moxie as you can get. And on the other end of the spectrum, “Dick McVengeance” is one of the most awesome names I’ve ever seen.

Regardless, I can see where you’re coming from — one of my friends once asked me, “Is that dude’s name actually ‘Dick McVengeance’?” So perhaps it is time for a change.

^ what Yashoki said. Or change it to Run DMV or something if you absolutely must change it.

Due to Pew's influence and wit, I will henceforth refer to you as Run DMV, despite whichever name you choose.

But yeah, leave it alone, unless you're looking for other work or writing a novel.

Just don't change the avatar or banner.

Wait...yeah...don't change the name either. Just add your bio at the end of the serious articles explaining that Brad Rice sometimes writes under the awesomely amazing name of Dick McVengeance.

Name changing, or what Aerox said would probably be the best option.

It's too bad you don't have an awesome real name like SAMIT SARKAR or anything. But then again, a whole dtoid meme surrounding "who the fuck is Brad Rice?" could come up.

Alright, keeping it as Dick McVengeance. I never quite realized that it was that popular. I think I'll just introduce myself as Dick McVengeance at Otakon and other events from now on.

The whole "let's start using our real names because it's more professional!" thing saddened me in so many ways.

It was like yall wanted to strike a difference between the editors and the readers, where before we all were just gamers. Then everyone changed their cool fuckin' avatars and now we have their retarded real names which are no fun to fap to.

@bluexy Well, sometimes we do have to take on a more professional manner as we grow. We're not going to lose our writing style, just how we appear. Plus, sometimes there isn't that strong of a brand identity when it comes to peoples' usernames. I mean, between "BrutalNick" and "Nick Chester," there isn't much of a difference.

I just can't believe how DMV became your Dtoid name even after you threw out the original. It's pretty awesome to see that it stuck. Maybe all the power was in the name after all.

Remember, the Dick never dies!
