Champions Online Free Weekend
Dias13 | 5:51 PM on 10.24.2009 4 comments

Alright, I know this is my very first c-blog post, but I haven't seen anyone talking about this just yet, so I figured mentioning it would be ok.

It appears that Cryptic is continuing with its practice of free weekend trials on its MMOs, this time giving out free access to Champions Online for one weekend. It just so happens to coincide with the release of their new expansion, Blood Moon. So, basically its free to play from October 30th to November 2nd.

Now, I haven't played this game yet because a) I'm too poor to buy it and b) I can't be bothered to pay for a MMO at the moment. Having said that, I think this is a good opportunity for us cheap ass gamers to poke in and see whats going on with this game.

Oh, right, you want a link don't you?

I tried the CO open beta a while back. It was like a purdier version of City of Heroes/Villains. I would try that free weekend, but I overdosed on those CoH free weekends. Decent game though, but I wouldn't subscribe to it.

I don't know about this. On the one hand, I've sworn off MMOs as being exactly the wrong type of game that I want to play.

On the other hand, this was not always the case. I still hold City of Heroes in pretty high regard among a genre that I currently detest. My name is even taken from my character, who I particularly liked.

I'll be skipping this, though. Gotta play Ikaruga, Fallout 3, and maybe get around to renting Borderlands.

Well, the open beta was okay I suppose, but it'll take a lot to make it overthrow WoW's playtime for me, and from what I'd seen, it just doesn't deliver.
Still, this is nice for anyone who wants a demo of the game, I guess.

Throwing a truck at a bad guy > casting a goofy magic spell
Super Heroes > Elves, Dwarfs, and all that shit
CO > WOW

So I endorse the chance for others to experience it.
