Hello everybody, (Hi Dr. Nick) Shadowsinthenyte here. I put on my best phone sex voice and somehow managed to convince Craineum to let me on the team. That or he thought I had throat cancer and was a charity case. Well either way, it's a win for me! If you haven't checked my store or seen my Bomberman Hat Expose, I work mostly in yarn using the crochet technique. I know how to knit, but I'm faster at crochet and, frankly, you can do more with it (This statement is a match that will ignite a internet geek craft war). I started off knowing the basics, but I've been slowly upping my skill set through constant reading of craft books and developing my own patterns.
(In my Natural Environment; on my couch with a controller in hand and a cat nearby) The exact moment of clarity for how/when/why I decided to make a hat the looked like a moogle eludes me at the moment, but by Christmas of '06 I had made one for myself and one for my husband's cousin. I was warm, cute & had a whole lot of love in it and it counterbalanced all the negative emotions I was getting for working for an "unnamed" tobacco company in Richmond, VA. When that gig fell through, I decided to try my hand making game themed hats and selling them on Etsy while I went back to school. The going hasn't been easy but it sure has been fun. I've had my stuff featured on Spritestitch, Technabob, 8bitfix, Der Standerd (Austrian Newspaper), and a whole hell of a lot of misc blog posts. I've also spent countless hours developing custom hats for people who never bought them, bought supplies for projects that fell though, and even encountered some scammers in Mexico (probly) who wanted to "wire me money". Lolz. I try to keep my store stocked with at least one of each type of hat I regularly make, and the key word in that sentence was "try". I've got a sketch book full of ideas that I haven't had time to flesh out yet: 22 down, 47 to go. That list always seems to grow faster than I can work on them. If you see something in the sold section that isn't in the storefront, or you wanting something in a different color, send me an e-mail at shadowsinthenyte{at}gmail.com. I don't change my prices often and I can usually have a custom order done within a week or two. If you don't have a pay-pal account, or are just taking a firm stance against e-commerce (that'll show em!), I do attend conventions and sell my wares. You can catch me at MAGfest around New Years, and I'll be posting any other events I'm attending here. (PS - Massive props to my husband John for editing Earthbound sprites to look like the avatars of the rest of the Dtoid Artisan team. He made the top picture using nothing but MS Paint because he's photoshop illiterate and wanted it pixel perfect.)
