Child's Play 2009 has begun!
DemonKyoto | 2:22 PM on 11.07.2009 0 comments

For those of you who don’t know, Child’s Play is a charity that was started in 2003 by the guys over at Penny Arcade. The goal of Child’s Play is to help out sick children around the world by helping them do what they should be doing: playing games and having fun.

Since it’s inception, Child’s Play has received over $5,000,000 in monetary/video game donations around the world, all of which goes towards sick kid’s hospitals in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Germany.

Before going out to the store and buying that new game you want, give the website a look, and see if you don’t think the money would be better served going towards a child, to make their Christmas a little bit brighter this year.

Mahunt 2 shelved?
DemonKyoto | 3:14 PM on 06.22.2007 2 comments

What the fuck is the world coming to now?

For those unaware ( and living under a rock..in a hole..beneath a swamp ), Manhunt 2 is due out in the next few weeks.

Manhunt 1 was, if you dont know, a fairly brutal ( and fun ) game. You play a convict on death row, who's execution was faked, and is forced to slay his way through as many people as possible to earn his freedom.

6+ months ago, a sequel was announced. Different people/story, same basic gimmick. A brutal bloodbath of a game. I.E. nice and fun :D

So, what happens? The gaming world rejoices. Why? Nintendo publicly announces that Manhunt will be coming to the Wii. A violent, bloody game, the likes of which probably hasnt been seen in years, would be coming to the Wii, Nintendo's baby. We all were happy, the Nintendo is no longer a 'kiddy system'. Maybe there was a hope for Nintendo afterall..

Bloops?

The ESRB rated Manhunt 2 AO - Adults Only. Not M for Mature like Manhunt 1, not M for Mature like all the GTA's and countless other brutal games. AO. The kiss of death.

Nintendo has a policy, it will not have AO games on any of its consoles. Manhunt 2 for the wii is effectively canned.

Sony followed suit. Despite the fact that the PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP have had some of the most brutal games around, they decides not to have Manhunt 2 either if it was rated AO. Kind of stupid as the rerated GTA SA was rated AO and they kept it.

Microsoft isnt even hosting the game and even they refused it due to the rating.

Most stores like Wal-Mart also refuse to sell games rated AO ( even if they also sold the AO GTA SA )

Take-Two now has 3 options:

-Release Manhunt 2 for PC and try to recoup their losses.
-Appeal the ESRB rating and try for an M
-Edit the game down to an M, which they've pretty much refused.

What the fuck is happening to society? The ESRB is useless. Submitting a game for review and rating is voluntary, NO game company has to submit a game for a rating, but Nintendo/Sony/MS and stores wont release/sell it without a rating. Far from voluntary.
