Firstly let me just say that i am writing this only one hour in so i have no doubt there will be plenty of nuggets of joy that i have yet to view/play/ hear but let me be the first to say: Game Developers...Ahem...THIS IS HOW THE DLC CONCEPT WORKS BITCHES!
Firstly the price point should not be an issue, from the looks of this so far, this should be almost treated as a new game in itself. Horse Armour, this fucking aint.
The gang mechanic thus far is excellent. The ability to call in support from fellow gang members, is a stroke of genius. Added to that is the RPG aspect that the gang level up in strength and overall handiness in firefights as you do missions for each member individually. Nice touch.
The bike riding has been improved, almost too much. I mean i hit a car head on going full speed and didnt fly off the bike, that suprised me and could have been a one off but overall its an improvement. Bikes handle better which should see people enjoying the 10, possibly more, new bikes. Fuck YEA!
The music...Where do i begin. Thus far i've heard The Doors/James Gang/Bon Jovi/Saxon/Doobie Brothers/Iron Maiden on Liberty Rock and Cannibal Corpse/Bathory/Deicide on L.C.H.C. Dan Houser's past in the music industry shines through once again because there are few games that can use existing music so effectively in film or gaming today. I spent 4-5 minutes just cruising with the gang around Alderney when Wanted, Dead or Alive came on. Few games can cause that effect. The ability to engross you into the world contained within.
Overall the game has not disappointed thus far, the cutscenes and voice work are tight and has the same polish that Rockstar has delivered on time and time again. If i had one criticism thus far, it would be the difficulty of connecting with the protagonist this time. Niko was a more human character while Johnny thus far seems like an angsty teen, angry with the world and honestly a little too emo. As the game fleshs out im hoping that we get an insight into his 'issues'.
Anyone on the fence about this DLC, nay, game shouldn't be. This, like GTA IV, has set the standard in the industry on several aspects. After the shift in developers to hold the goodies back for DLC and bleed the gamers of the world dry, its nice to see a developer do a very rare thing. Make a great game even better at a price that they easily could have charged more for.
Thanks R*
I can actually see these downloadable episodes taking place from multiple perspectives as they come out with more and more. The only concern would be when they would run out of ideas.
Sounds good, still a bit pricey though. I hope more DLC like this happens though. DLC is not costumes or missions, it should be expansion packs.
This sounds like a great expansion, but I'm just not that excited about GTAIV these days. A million other games are competing for my attention at the moment. I might check it out if there is an eventual price drop.
I'll probably cave and put it up on Goozex before then, who am I kidding?
I'm about 3 hours in and it's just great. I absolutley love it.
Just like you already said, the first time "Wanted Dead Or Alive" played on the radio was epic.
The only complaint I have at the moment is, that it's too easy. It's been some time since I played GTA IV so I got into the first fight with no cover or clue what to do. I took MANY bullets and only lost about half my health, even after 3 hours it's not that much more difficult.
I'm with Char, GTAIV isn't high on my list. In fact, I don't ever want to play that game again. To me after the first two or three weeks, the hype died down and I actually realized the game gets REALLY REALLY BORING.
i'm glad to see someone's enjoying it...or actually remembered about this as SFIV and a bunch of other games are much more important than this to me.
I still haven't even got that far in GTAIV and mainly because as Covah said, whatever hype there was with it, died down a few weeks later. Didn't feel the same rush I got with GTAIII and San Andreas.
some day i'll finish your story Niko...
After finishing the assassin missions in GTAIV last night, my interest has been renewed ten fold.
I want this in many ways.
I need to get this so bad, but I don't have any money!! I wonder how successful this downloadable content will be.
Bathory. Cannibal Corpse and Deicide? Oh fuck yes. Already have the game downloaded but I don't wanna wake my room mate up(I know I'll be blasting the radio stations). Ahhh, the anticipation.
Im with Covah on this one... after the novelty of a next-gen GTA wore off I realized GTA4 just wasnt that great. Like, GTA4 was by no means bad at all. Its a B+ game, but not an A+ game like all of the early reviews said.
i about 2hrs in and its just keeps getting better
I'd like to try it out...but I've got too many other games on my list. Plus, I wasn't all that thrilled with GTA IV. I'm more of a Saint's Row 2 fan.
I'll probably pick this up, but I've got the 20 gb hard drive and at the moment I've got about 4.7 gb left so either I'm gonna have to clear up some space or get a new hard drive.
I'ma download this Sunday when I can take my xbox somewhere to download it :/
Nice :)
Can you just start the DLC from the start of the game btw? Because I played through GTA4 with another gamertag and I'm awaay at the beginning on my own one. Don't really want to spend hours on GTA4 again just to get into the DLC :/
@Pew
Nope you can leap right into the DLC no limitations.
Now we have to arrange some more Faggio Wars for Euro FNF.
I still laugh about the infamous "The Faggio is ever expanding" "The Faggio has achieved quantum"
Its simple physics really:
+
=
WIN.
Haha tnx for the info Demios, and yes we need to do that shit again sometime for FNF :))
