I'd heard about this game -- or at least, variants of it -- and decided it was high time I actually give it a try. 800 MS points later and I was online, getting pwned by every one on Xbox Live. Seriously, I fucking suck at this game.
The animations are animated, the colors are colorful, and the high-def is high -- also, quite def. I'm not sure the sprites are quite up to par. Although they look good enough, they seem a bit "meh". I don't know, maybe it's just me?
There are things that happen in this game that completely befuddle me. For example, there's a tutorial -- as most games are wont to have these days -- except that it doesn't actually tutor you. Am I doing it wrong? It just seems like a lame practice mode. Where's the schooling? I need schooled! Do I have to learn all there is to know about Puzzle Fighter II Turbo on the streets? Some day, I'm going to be in real trouble when I come home pregnant because my parents, society, the system et al, did not tell me the vicious truths about Puzzle Fightering in this day and age! And I'm not even a girl! The hideous machinations -- not to mention the physical impossibilities -- of mothering a video game's child are such as this world should never know! You can't just push this stuff on people, Capcom! It ain't right... People need to be told!
So, as a result of complete ignorance, I walked into my first few online matches and quickly descended down a slippery slope of pain and humiliation. I believe that, out of about 20 matches, I actually won 2 rounds. Not matches; rounds. And the worst part is, I'm not even sure how I got away with that much.
This is a game that is very much WIN and I can tell just by the fact that it resembles other games I have come to love over the years that it is, indeed, a game conceived in awesome. I just wish I didn't suck so awfully much at it.
And if they ever do make an after-school special called "I'm Having Puzzle Fighter's Baby!", just remember, you saw the premise for it here, first.

oh and it's not you. those sprites aren't Hi-Def. Capcom was lazy
but here is probably the most important rule for this game: try to keep column 4 clear
and as for the basics

Aha, I figured as much about those sprites. There was just something about them; they looked a little stretched and too heavily filtered/anti-aliased.
As for the game being a waste, I don't know. I still enjoy the single-player mode, but at my current level of experience, multi-player is almost unplayable. Guess I gotta just keep practicing!
Buster:
Sweet vid! That tutorial mode would have come in REALLY handy a few hours ago. The only thing it didn't cover was that if someone attacks you at the same time you launch an attack, it either reduces or negates their attack while having the same effect on yours. There were a number of times where I'd line up a couple power gems only to watch in horror as my attack did nothing to my opponent. That was very frustrating and left me feeling cheated, until I looked up a few strategy guides and better understood what was happening.
Thanks again!
You perfectly worded exactly how I feel about this game. You are not alone sir. :) thanks
Thanks for the PSA. We'll have to work on a new after-school special, "How Long Is My Game Title? So Long."
Butmac:
Thanks for the kind words! Glad to be of service.

This would, unfortunately, appear to be true.
