About Me

I'm Deacon. I'm no one really. I'm just a guy from Dallas who has a show and website on the Xbox 360 community. It's called Unscripted 360. I do a normal recorded show there and a live show. You can call in live and all that stuff. It's pretty wicked.

I'm currently an Xbox MVP and founder of the 360 Laws. Read up on the 360 Laws Picture Packs etc right here. I'm pimpin' one of the pics from the Picture Pack right now on my profile. They're on the Marketplace for download.

After hanging out with the Destructoid crew at an EA event, I realized they're just about as crazy as I am so I had to have a D-Blog.

Note to everyone about Destructoid hazing...it's REAL. They make you jump in pools with your clothes on and swim in weird places. It's true.

I hope you guys enjoy whatever bit of blogging I do here. Drop me a line sometime or not. See ya on the blahg.

Look for Unscripted 360 content on Xbox Live Marketplace! http://www.unscripted360.com/2008/02/01/360-laws-picture-pack-2/

Will reviewers refuse to score GTA IV low?
DeaconBlade | 11:51 AM on 04.15.2008 20 comments

A lot of big name titles seem to get scored based on name alone these days. Halo 3 for all its hype didn't even excite me enough to finish it. (yet) From what I played, it seems a score of 8-8.5 would've made more sense. But which review site wants to be the one to give Halo 3 anything less than a 9+? It was a good game with a really good MP but was did it really live up to the hype? I think not.

BioShock was 2K's big baby last year and it garnered some really high scores but the game was far from perfect and far from stellar. Another 8-8.5 in my book really. It was a really good game but nothing I felt was perfect or ground breaking.

In comes another big name title, Grand Theft Auto IV. And I'm wondering which media site regardless of if it's worth it, will give GTA IV anything less than a 9+? Are they afraid to score a big name title, less than perfect?

I guess none of this matters if you don't believe that review scores matter at all to people but I think they do. I know a number of people who refuse to buy games if they score low without even bothering to play it for themselves. Crazy I know but it is what it is.

GTA IV may very well be a great game but in the event that it's not...will any of these sites bother saying so and give it a lower than perfect score? I'm calling nothing but 9+ scores regardless.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Captain Obvious? I almost feel like making a bet that if the game gets a 7.5, I will not only buy it, but buy it for the 360.

But that is a scary thought.

You completely lost me at Bioshock being a "8-8.5."

Wait, what score did Halo get? You should put that in here so people know what the heck you are talking about

It's not that they are scared to give the game a high score, it's because its a good game so everybody gives it a high score. It's not hard to figure out.

Halo 3 got 9.5's etc. But what I played was more like an 8.5 tops though. Visually it wasn't ground breaking and the story was meh for all the hype surrounding it ya know but of course it was going to get high scores across the board.

And was BioShock really a 10? I mean the story was great and visually it was very nice but a 10? Come on.

GTA IV's MP might be shite..it is afterall a first attempt...can Rockstar get it perfect on the first try? Who knows really...I'm just guessing that no one, despite flaws, will give these big titles anything but 9+ scores.

For someone who supposedly "doe a show and website about the 360 community" you really have no skill at talking about said community and it's games.

Seriously.

Didn't this here Destructoid give Halo 3 8.5 or something like that?

Who cares about a score, its just a number it means nothing really, the actual reviewing is in the text.

Plus, from what I've heard it is deserving of the high scores it will no doubt recieve.

@Revolt, yeah so you're obviously a BioShock lover. i didn't think it was a 10. of course that's my opinion though. no need to get sour about an "opinion" really.

not everyone loved BioShock much the same as not everyone loved Halo 3. and i imagine not everyone will love GTA IV. the question though is if any "big media" reviewer would dare rate it low even if they thought so....

just wondering that's all.

Yes, BioShock was a 10. If it was named SpinalShock it would have been an 11.

Some more vocal gamers have very fragile egos. They crave acceptance in the games they buy. So when a review comes out that they disagree with they will attempt to blast it usually in a very immature manner, like "you don't know shit, I'm right you're wrong accept it," or will resort to personal attacks. Their views are right, everyone else is a dumb ass. It can be facinating, but I think its just sad and try to ignore it. If I like a game that others don't I don't care, to each his own.

I know here that reviews are done objectively, and that's why I keep coming back. I've got my pre-order in and I'm anxiously awaiting getting my hands on it.

I bet no matter what score it gets in the Dtoid review, hundreds of stupid children will flock to the site to be pissed about it not getting a perfect 10. Because the internet is serious business

I’m with razerangel. I’m pretty sure Aaron Linde gave Halo 3 an 8.5/10. As for GTA IV, I’m sure the good scores will be perfectly deserved. I’ve really got high hopes for it.

I have no doubt that GTA IV will be fucking great. However i hope that no websites give it a incredibly shitty review merely for page hits.
