Twilight -- Book & Movie
Dawn Marie | 11:52 AM on 11.08.2008 9 comments

I loved Book One. I read it twice while waiting for book 2 to become available. Every single copy was checked out of the library.

Actually, every single copy of book 3 was check out of the every single library in Los Angeles, with 24 holds, but I didn't realize it was book 3 I was putting a hold on. I put a hold on it, waited. Checked it out, realized it was book 3, and wept bitter tears, and closed it, and put a hold on book 2.

Now, the library has emailed me that book 2 is available for me to pick up.

The movie poster is my wallpaper at work and I can't wait for the movie. I know I am setting myself up for disappointment because the book was so much fun. Stephanie Meyer is no Jane Austin, I don't even no if she is any Anne Rice, but she tells a fun story and can't be faulted for that.

The husband says as long as Quantum of Solace has been seen on the 7th, he will accompany me to Twilight on the 14th. Of course, regardless, I am going to Twilight on the 14th. I love me some vampires and Edward is one of the better ones. Of course, when I have been offered crap like the hideous Underworld and even the weak Van Helsing there hasn't been much competition.

At San Diego Comic Con this year, I had never even heard of Twilight, but walking around were people with the shirts or bags that stated, “I am only here for Twilight.” With a sold out Comic Con there were a large number of people who bought passes for no other reason then to get into the Twilight movie forum. The organizers had put the Twilight forum in one of the main halls and were unsure didn’t know if it would fill up, but the morning of there were people sitting outside the door to make sure they would get in. This is the craziest phenomenon.

The movie poster is everywhere here in Los Angeles. It is the best advertising for a book series ever. So many more people have read the book series since the movie posters have gone up. I admit, it was when the 4th book came out with the midnight parties celebrating its release and the newspapers writing about it that I even became aware of the series, or interested in it. And now I am hooked and love it. My husband fears opening night of Twilight with all the little girls mad about Edward/Jacob/all of it. I can’t predict what the make-up of the crowd will be. I just know several 30 Somethings who will be there besides myself and my reluctant husband.

Go Team Edward (that really is the dumbest catch phrase, however).

Angsty teenagers? Check. Angsty teen vampires? Check. A soundtrack featuring the hottest artists of the year? Check. All it needs now is a better, fitting title. I vote for Dawson's Crypt.

Alucard > Edward

Also I find it to be poorly written and there are ni dynmaic to the characters at all. All the vampires are perfect with no flaws and Belle is so clumsy, it makes me look like a ballerina. Plus she hates be human so much it's almost ridiclous.

Evey Vampire > Edward
He fucking Sparkles! Vampires don't sparkle, they're supposed to be terrifying cause of their power that they use like tyrants.

It bothers me how this poorly written series that I wouldn't even rank above fan fiction has done so well. There's seriously points where I've wanted to punch some of the women in my life for liking this. How in the hell is knocking a girl out so you can have sex with her and break her bones romantic?

@ Psychosoldier -- Agree with you about the Sparkle in sunshine. It was so dumb. I was so angry about that. Vampires suppose to be scary that should have been flaw with Edward, that could have been a place Belle to see Vampire for what he was, in the sunshine. Sparkle? No idea what that was about. The clumsiness was overdone, agreed
However, she didn't hate humans, she loved a vampire.

Twilight is the worst thing thing to happen to vampires since Anne Rice.

I have a love/hate relationship with this series. It's poorly written, and i loathe most of the characters except for Alice and Carlisle. I'm still looking forward to the movie though. hopefully it won't be the "why doesn't he like me!!??! WHAT DID I DO!?!" whinefest that the first two books were

Nay, I change my mind. Twilight is the worst thing to happen to literature, ever.

@Hood_954 -- Alice is awesome in book one. I hope the character is done right in the movie. Was the third book good? Obviously, I loved the first book and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

 about me

First there as Snake on the Macintosh, a single one square line, that grew as it ate boxes only a single square wide, that could only make 90 degree turns, that had to exit a level through a square at the top of the screen one square in width. The snake was controlled with the keyboard. Fun, addictive, not easy.

Then there was Dark Crystal on the Macintosh. Controlled by the mouse, its movements took very delicate wrist to control. This game can now be played on XBLA, but the mouse was definitely part of the art of the original game.

In the 80s, on the Macintosh, I spent hours and hours playing Dark Castle and Lode Runner. These were sad in that there was no pause and no save. I remember clearly ending a Lode runner game well over 100 levels in with well over 100 lives because it was 2 in the morning and I had to go to High School the morning. Dark Castle had the complicated hand motions of moving the body forward, backward, and jumping with the one hand on the keyboard and aiming and shooting the rocks with the other hand on the mouse. I became very proficient with it. At the bottom of the dungeon in Dark Castle there is a man with a whip whipping 3 prisoners hanging on a wall. Your character throws the stone at the guy with the whip, goes past the prisoners, and has to choose one of two keys. The wrong key will have a 500 lb weight fall on you, the right key lets you out of the prison. Half of the time, death would occur when I pick a. Then one fateful day, I realized, the prisoners werent twitching, they were shaking their heads no when my character stood under wrong key. I couldnt believe I had missed that for so long.

Then came the amazingly advanced Intellivision. The fun that I had playing the Bump N Jump, Pitfall Harry, and Frogger on that new fangled machine with the graphics and ease of movements was remarkable. Oh, how wonderful it was.

Then came the plumber followed by adrenaline filled Sonic, which I loved. I played Sonic Spinball with relish.

Street Fighter 2 was a treat.

And then the next generation of consoles came out that and I drifted away from gaming.

It was when I started dating my now husband that I was wooed back. He started with what I knew from way back when and got me Frogger for the PS1. What fun. Then, he introduced me to platform games with Jak & Daxter and I was hooked. I have beat all the Jak games, all the Ratchet games, the first Sly Cooper game, Kya, (am I the only one who knows or likes this game? It was fun, in spite of the graphical pop ups), Scooby Doo, and Treasure Planet. I am working on Golden Compass, Open Season, and Ratatouille.

However, I love my DS. I have played hours of Suduko. I beat Puzzle Quest with one character and am half way through with a second character. I am currently playing, and loving, Professor Layton & the Curious Village and Hotel Dusk: Room 215.

Of course I play Rock Band 2 and most of the Guitar Heroes but who doesnt?

That is my gaming history in a nutshell.

Lots of fun and laughter,
Dawn Marie
