About Me

Let's see...

My PS2 broke down in Octoboer '05, and I was so irritated because that was the 8th time that had happened, I swore off systems. Fast forward to December '06, and my friend and I wanted to find an activity to do, but I live in Detroit and he lives in Houston. I broke down and pursued an Xbox 360, and I came out of my year long retirement from gaming.

I dig mostly on sports games, but I fell in love with sandbox GTA games. I don't spend too much time playing, as I try to divide my free time up as much as possible. But because of my narrow gaming tastes, it does not mean I'm closed off to other game types. No WoW though, I'm geeky enough as is.

Away from gaming, I love sports, comics, cartoons, anime and movies. I don't watch as much television as I use to, but I keep up with what I love as much as possible. Cartoons are all I watch on tv besides sports anyway. I also love to write. I write leisurely and sometimes I utilize blogging. I stick to short stories more than anything. I gotta find a spot to slap a link to my myspace, if that's an acceptable action around here. I'm still unsure.

HDTV Questions...Again
Darkknight37 | 12:26 AM on 03.12.2008 14 comments

Ok, so I asked everyone once if I should go with an Olevia or a Vizio for a new HDTV. I'm leaning towards the Vizio now, but now that I just got a new job, I'm gonna go with a 42" instead of a 37".

Now, I wanna go all out. I have a very good Sony surround sound system and don't intend on getting a new one until this one dies. What I am interesting in is upconverting DVDs. I have an Xbox 360 and have heard nothing of it's upscaling capabilities. I AM gonna get a PS3 sometime before the end of the year, but a new TV puts that purchase on the way back burner. So I'd like to know if there is a way for the 360 can upconvert.

I'm very strongly considering ditching my PC setup and just hooking up my Vizio to my HP. Any suggestions on whether this is a win situation or not?

The last question I need to ask is if it's even worth going up to the 42" model and stick with the 37'' and use the extra coinage for Rock Band and Burnout?

That's all, D'Toiders. Any feedback is much obliged, as usual.

I can't wait to see this in HD in July.

Vizio..... ewww.

I bought a 36" Insignia (best buy brand) the day after Thanksgiving for $450. I went to Walmart the next day just to look around and the picture of my tv to a Vizio was so vast. It was like looking at a non-hd tv.

My personal opinion, go with something other than a Vizio. Toshiba is the best bet if you have the money, but if not, go with anything other than a Vizio.

If you're up for buying a HDTV online, you can check out 6ave.com. I've been told by other geeks that they don't charge tax, and that they're reliable. Here's a coupon code for 6% off. EML61034.

I say go with an LG... thats what I got. I have 2 and the pictures are amazing, HD or not, they put vizio to shame. ALso, Vizio has been reported to have had more problems than many other brands.

And yes, definately worth it to go for 42", since HDTV flats screens are widescreen images, so it is not a true inch by inch measurement, the picture won't look THAT big on a 37", go for the 42".

Vizios are great, especially for the relatively cheap price. I've got 3 right now (27", 32", 51") and they look great. Never had any problems with them in regards to anything.
Obviously there are better ones out there but you're going to drop more money on it.

I like Toshiba. Picked up a 56" DLP last year and love it. Good thing about DLP: Cheap and HUGE.

I went through so many HDtvs. It took alot of time for me to find the perfect one that has no flaws. Don't buy a Hitachi, Misubichi(sp) or Vizio.

I love my 60" Sony Bravia.

Obviously he is thinking about a Vizio because of budgetary restraints. All you guys who are recommended the "top of the line" tvs are missing the point.

its like saying, hey I was thinking about getitting a new civic or corolla, and you guys saying, hey man you should get a porshe, civic's suck. well, duh. Of course and LG is better, but of the two choices of Vizio or Olevia, thats the question.

They are both good for the price.

as far as 37 or 42 inches, Youre always supposed to buy a size bigger when you buy a TV or youre gonna regret it when you get home. It might be cool for a bit, but eventually youll wish you bought the bigger.

I say get the 42 if possible, (even though mine is only 32, but I love it)

also, cocks.

media center pc's are made of win. definately recommend going that route with the new tv. your record options are more robust and you can play any video format as well as surf the web, stream crap. i went media center pc and never looked back... not to mention the gaming benefits, a couple wireless 360 controllers and a few good emus.. do it!

the difference for the 42" would just be whether you are going for 1080p or not.

Also the HD-DVD add-on for xbox upscales, and you can find them really cheap now, and still possibly get free movies with it?

if anything else, it keeps your main disc drive from being used more than it needs to be.

I'd still prefer Olevia over Vizio, but do what you will. As far as upscaling DVDs is concerned: the 360 should upscale through HDMI or VGA. However, the quality of the 360 DVD player is piss-poor. You're better off getting an Oppo upscaling DVD player. You can probably get one for around $100 and it's an absolute star when it comes to DVD upscaling--you're going to be spending in the thousands before you can find anything that competes.

Also, this kind of stuff still belongs in the forums.

I own a 32" Vizio ( Wii & PS3 ) & a...

47" Vizio ( Watching TV )

All I know is make sure it's a Vizio! A 42" for your games is mammoth. & a 37" is bigger than what I play on. & I'm fine where I'm at!

You should be just fine with the 37". ( Seriously ) & spend the rest on RockBand & Burnout!

Win Win either way you look @ it. IMO
