Ah a new gaming rig, a joyous occassion for every PC Gamer. That first boot always so magical and then going through the torture of setting up a new PC again! It's been 3 years since I built my last gaming rig and it's still going strong, BUT I decided to take the leap into a new 64-bit system. Not that I'm going to get rid of my big beautiful bastard, need to keep an XP machine for playing all those sexy old school games :)

Old PC:

In that spiffy Antec 1200 case lies a GTX 260, Intel Core 2 DUO E8400 Wolfdale, and 4 gigs DDR2.
It's served me well and while it's not time to move on it's time to get a new partner.

New rig specs:
Puget DIY V4 Kit:
Eclipse System 12 Case
Puget Acrylic Motherboard Tray
Watercool MO-RA3 Pro radiator
Swiftech MCP35X pump

As well as:
1tb Seagate HDD (No, I don't want an SSD, MAYBE go for a hybrid later but I like the old mechanicals ;p)
Core i7-2600k
MSI Lightning N580 (solid caps are the name of the game, surprisingly hard to find a video card with solid caps, cheap bastards)
Corsair HX850 PSU
16gb G.SKILL Ripjaws 1333 7-CAS DDR3
PRO/GEN3 Mobo
Rocks
12G 70f Tech Grade Mineral Oil
9x Antec Tricool Fans
BitFenix Alchemy LED Strip

The idea was to put together everything but dry run it for 2 weeks. As what seems to happen everytime I mess with a HS I maimed myself horribly.

One of those cuts looks like the star trek symbol :o

When I first started hooking everything up to start that magical first boot I forgot one very crucial thing: My keyboard was PS2 :o Man had I completely forgot about that :P So after a rush for a USB keyboard from a friend finally booted it up and started with some testing. Ran Uniengine, 3DMARK, and memtest to make sure things were in working order.

Man those LEDs are bright!

So with 2 weeks and no problems it was time to take the plunge, I should have seen it coming but that cruel bitch trouble and her equally bitchy sister massive-problems reared their heads :| First the pump was not working properly, making all sorts of weird noises. Possibly because I had run it by accident when it was dry (but I don't think I did :/) or maybe some air bubble issues. Either way it had to be replaced which mean't the damn thing had to come out. Once replaced when it came time to reconnect the quick disconnects I noticed that the quick disconnects were leaking. When reconnecting them it looks like I was a bit rough and the rubber seals tore off :*(

But finally after some new disconnects arrived (and carefully connected together as to avoid the previous mishaps) finally it was time to get off the ground!

So I present to you!
..
....

I don't have a name for it :< uh....

Terror from the Deep (thank you XCOM box on my shelf :P)

With Bubbles On:

With Bubbles Off:

It has been thoroughly broken in with a few of my favorites (Shogo, Freespace 2) courtesy of GOG's good services!

There she is, now it's time to spread the happiness! A contest!

The prize! A Japanese copy of Ni-No-Kuni (Wrath of the White Witch), remeber moonspeak!
Runner up prize! Flonne DLC for Disgaea 3 (pre-order DLC, NA/NTSC so I'd imagine you need US PSN or something)
*First winner can choose DLC instead of NiNoKuni if desired.

For the copy of Ni-No-Kuni I only ship to the US, sorry :< Hate international shipping.

So what do you have to win one of these?!
Simple! (Since in the past I made them specific so noone entered :( Generic contest it is!)
Say what game you want to see a sequel (or prequel/spinoff whatever) of and I'll enter to pick you at random!

All entries must be submitted by Tuesday when I get home from work (anywhere from 6:30-7:30pm EST)

*One game *might* (will) give you TWO entries and some games *might* get you 0 entries (don't pick terrible games :P)

I'm kidding it's all fair.
...
I'm not kidding pick wisely :|

Oh man, that's some PC. That aquarium tank is crazy.
Man, that is an awesome pc. How much to build it?
I always wondered about the practicality of these aquarium+mineral oil computers. What do you do if you want to move the tank? Do you siphon out all the oil to get the case down to a bearable weight?

What about adding a PCi card? Can you unplug the machine and dip a clean hand in there while you're installing components?
OOoo, a contest. Games that should be remade? I've been on a old school hand drawn animation kick, so I'd like to see some of my favorite 90's games with 80/90's style HD comic book art or pulp novel cover art from all the old fantasy/sci-fi things a la Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta.

I'd like to see a proper sequel to Master of Magic and X-com. I also wish there was a way all my dreams could be realized for a King of Dragons sequel that fully integrates the cheesy/colorful fantasy that they used to have in the old advanced DnD books. I would like the chance to play great big open world (skyrim-like) game based on Shadowrun which, ideally, would be filled with great 80's Casio Digital Synth based music. MMMM

SEXAY CYBERPUNK
@ Alasdair - Seems crazy but it's actually very safe.

@ Strongarm - Your looking about a grand extra for the submerged part of it (oil and everything, bit less since you're gettinga case too). Not exactly cost effective as you could go with a standard air cooled system for much cheaper but you wouldn't be able to do a lot of OC.

@ Dandy - If I want to move it around a bit I can move the table slowly, if I want to move it around a lot yeah you have to empty out the oil. The name of the game really is to install everything you want and don't mess with it physically again :) But I did have to put my hand in there once, I put it in a garbage bag. I suppose cleaning it off but you don't want your dead skin cells floating around inside. For a change like that though I'd probably take it out otherwise you're gonna have oil all over the place.

The only X-COM I've played to date is Terror from the Deep, need to play the other ones but there' so much to play! :P At this rate you might win both prizes ^^.

BTW I suppose I should end the contest at some point, how about on Tuesday, when I get home. All entries submitted by then :P
The original X-com is also great. I only played apocalypse for just a minute and it had a LOT of new elements added to it that I remember overwhelming me. I have no idea where that is now...maybe me brother still has it...

Another game that I'd like to see redone is HEXEN. After doing a google search I learned that there has been a doom 3 mod in production for years now, and there is even a demo: http://hexenmod.net/downloads.php
I'll be trying that out next weekend it seems.
I'm sure they're all good, actually I recall people telling me that Terror From the Deep was the weakest of the series but I can't comment on that. It was fun but it's not my usual bag which is why I didn't really turn back to it. I didn't play a lot of hexen but I thought it was *ok*. More of a sci-fi game guy, I only play a few fantasy games and those have to be great and I take LOOOONG breaks inbetween them.
I just wanted you to know that I successfully masturbated to the pictures of your cyber aqua computer.

I don't want you to feel awkward about it. It's a perfectly natural thing.
Also, I want to see a new Star Control game.

No, not that third one. Pure Toys for Bob, baby.

Star Control 2 was and is one of my favorite games of all time. Though the creators have been talking more recently about the vague possibility of a new game in the series, it has been an extremely long time, and they have said that before. That being said, they need to make that shit happen.

Disobedience...will be punished.
@ Manchild - .. I guess I can live with that knowledge as long as you didn't use any of the oil inside. In which case I will find you :|

Seen Star Control, never played it. Looked fun but I'm not sure if I could get into it. I do like playing retro games but there really is a limit as to how old they can be for me to like em. Similar thing with me though, been wanting a new Nexus and they actually were going to try and make one and held a donation drive/preorder thing for it. Almost over and it's well short so doesn't look like it will happen....

Goodbye Nexus and goodbye Imperium Galactica.
If you try The Ur-Quan Masters, the re-release of Star Control 2, with the speech packs installed and the 3DO music, it really doesn't feel that old. A massive sci-fi epic RPG with multiple dialogue options which affect the outcome of the end game, full voice acting for every line of dialogue in the game makes it feel very busy and "modern".

Plus the combat is just fun as all hell.
Very nicely done. Also, you have like 30 Dreamcasts
I'm alive! I also got your message! ^_^ 2.5 haul blogs of probably 5 or 6 have been completely written up! I plan on getting to 4 before posting! What day should I post on? HANDSOMEBEAST suggested NOT weekends! As for your contest, I'm going with the lame, albeit possibly cheating/tugging at your heart strings answer . . . Skies of Arcadia . . . =P . . . ^_^
@ Manchild - Thanks, DLed it and gave it a shot to make sure it worked on W7 x64 and it worked just fine, got my ass handed to me by this silver ship in a melee. Was doing so well before that :*(

@ REWQ - Thanks, it was a fun little project and I got a computer out of it too :)

@ Funk - I think you should post one now :P Been waiting so long! Just pace it ^^ Hmm any day I guess, dunno. Monday since it's a crappy day? ;p It's ok if anyone read my past stuff they would know what game would get you two entries :P

Oh SoA, y has thou been abandoned :*(
@ REWQ and it's about half that number in dreamcasts actually.
I just managed to have the time to take a closer look at your pictures . . . where'd you get that ballin' Vyse figure from? Also, do you have more detailed pictures of it? =D
Custom job I had done.

And if you're gonna make me wait I'm gonna make you wait :P
Wow ;p Sorry funk but even though you had 2 entries out of 4 you didn't get picked :< Totally didn't expect that, but just know I was rooting for you :P
Dandy is first place winner and Manchild is second! PMing both of you :)
