Aladdin is Blatantly Better than Mario
DanOConnor | 3:05 PM on 11.09.2009 6 comments

And if you disagree than you’re a fanboy, but I’m not a fanboy because I own all the consoles so there. When people tend to think of the platformer genre, the name that is usually associated with it is Mario. He’s apparently done so much for the genre that his name has become synonymous with the word “platform”. However I’d like to argue against this farce and use my silver bullet on the plumber that just refuses to die, and state that his crown is undeserved. That’s right, I said it. I believe that Aladdin is the Platformer King, and I’m going to tell you why.

1. Aladdin Has better Physics

Sure Mario may have introduced a larger degree of control in mid air with his jumps, but who can honestly jump that high? Especially a midget that eats mushrooms to get to the same size as a turtle, in a world where every video game now strives for realism (regenerating health and explosive red barrels which are everyday problems) I’d like to point out that in Aladdin the jumps are not outlandish. And if you disagree with me you’re clearly a Nintendo fanboy even though Aladdin was actually multiplatform and came out on the SNES. (but that doesn’t matter to me as i own all the consoles and am not a fanboy) If you jump in Aladdin, you can just about jump onto an enemy, and you can’t do ridiculously long jumps, you need to use a carpet and turn it into a parachute. And these physics are clearly more complex than simple jumping physics that are found in Mario, which are all floaty and just so wrong that they make me feel sick. In a world where we strive for realism, this simply shows that Mario should go back to toadstool kingdom with his racoon tail between his legs which he gets from eating a leaf...

2. Aladdin changes up the Game play modes.

Run. Run. Run. Run. Run. Jump. Jump. Run. Run. Sound familiar? Of course it does! It’s every single Mario game that’s been since the first one! He’s a one trick plumber and it’s getting old, 28 years old in fact ha-ha! However, Aladdin and the guys at Capcom are amazing and brilliant and completely genius unlike that moron Miyamoto. Aladdin as a magic carpet which he rides, he has boss fights, and he also changes the game completely depending on what console you play him on. On the megadrive he has a sword! Mario can’t even be bothered to go multiplatform, instead sticking one company!

3. Princess Jasmine is hotter than Princess Peach.

Well you know it’s true...
4. Aladdin’s Graphics are better

In today’s world where realism is everything, and graphics are valued so highly. Aladdin reaches the pinnacle of platformer realism; see the way his legs flail slightly as he jumps? Or how dust comes off a ledge when he pulls himself up? And this is only on his first adventure compare this to MARIO’s first adventure, and you can see why Mario doesn’t deserve his crown. He’s had a billion attempts at getting the graphics right and he’s only just stopped looking like a three year old monkey that has drawn him with crayons, i mean for crying out loud look at his proportions! His head is bigger than half his body!

One is Mario jumping on a turtle; the other is ALADDIN FREAKING BACKFLIPPING OFF A DUDE! Look at the quality of the graphics, side by side comparison! That Mario game looks like it came out for the freaking Wii!

5. Nintendo are Racist, Capcom are not.

Capcom have never ever been racist, from their delicate handling of setting Resident Evil 5 in war torn Africa and glowing portrayal of Spanish farming communities in Resident Evil 4, to their totally non stereotypical fighters in Street Fighter. Nintendo on the other hand are constantly racist. Their unbelievable attacks on the Italian people with Mario are astonishing, not only this but they have made Mario himself racist; He only tries to save princess peach within the games, and princess peach has blonde hair and blue eyes, like the Aryan race, and Mario has dark hair and a black moustache, which is similar to Hitler. Therefore, Nintendo are the equivalent of the Nazi party.

6. Aladdin has a story, Mario does not

Aladdin the video game ties its levels together with carefully constructed scenes that provoke genuine emotion for the character. You really are ecstatic when you go into the lamp, as you feel that Aladdin is finally getting what he deserves in life. However in Mario the plot is too intricate and really complex, needlessly frustrating the player with 40 minute cut scenes when the player just wants to stomp on turtles and hit bricks.

So there you have it, proof that Aladdin is better than Mario in every way. However he’s not as good as Cole McGrath, no one is as good as him, especially that Alex Mercer.

Day 2 of my new life in the D'toid community, so far so good :D
The people here are actually really cool, i'm starting to visit here even more and more. Anyway onto today's topic, a Year back, a friend and I got into a discussion about the pros and cons of each console (sorry pc you weren't involved) and eventually we came to a point in the discussion where we asked each other what it'd be like if there was just one combined effort from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. It gave me inspiration to write a short piece about the possible pros and cons of one console on the market, I was rereading that blog a few days ago, and realised that it :
A) Didn't do the idea justice
B) Had some mistakes and incorrect facts (also known as lies)

So I thought I'd give the idea another stab, I'm a year older, hopefully a year's worth wiser, and more informed of the consoles. First off I'm going to be calling this console the PSWII60, because It's cool and well because I damn well want to. And apologies for the random blog title, i just usually name them after lines from a song, (kudos to anyone that can name the band and the song! and if you can't? Google Is Your Friend)

I don't know about you, but I can see the attraction of there only being one console on the market. It'd bring both benefits and disadvantages compared to having three seperate home consoles. (There would still be portable consoles, this blog will mainly concentrate on home consoles.) I've listed both the Pros and the Cons Below

Pro - One Massive Online Community : The PSWII60 would mean there would only be one unified online. It is fairly common now to see online fade in some games rather quickly, making it a bitch if you want to get online achievements etc, or prove your prowess at a particular game. ( A good example of this would be sports games, as soon as the next game is released, The lobby's reduce dramatically - one culprit guilty of this would be NBA 2K8) It also means that there would be a huge growth in the number of people that you will be able to play online. Auto-matching would also be made a lot easier as well due to the larger amount of people participating online.

Pro - Games would only get better : With such a high demand for only the best games on the console, people would be rushing forward with their game proposals, trying to get contracts with the PSWII60, (no more offloading terrible games that wouldn't sell on any other console onto the Wii... and a lot less games based on movies hopefully...) Games that utilise innovation would also appear more, as developers would be trying to create games that would make them stand out from the quickly growing crowd. This would lead to games such as katamari and Little big planet appearing more frequently in order to avoid the generic stream of urine that has become commonplace adventure and First Person Shooter games.

Pro - No More exclusive games : No longer would we miss out on games such as Halo and Gears of War, Resistance 2, Metal Gear Solid, Killzone 2, Super Smash Bros and more. No more buying more than one console just to play a few exclusives. This would also benefit developers as they wouldn't have to release the games across multiple platforms, meaning they can work less on creating three identical games using different code, and concentrate on refining control,s, eliminating glitches and meaning they won't need to continually release patches as well

Pro - An end to the systems war: Although probably not the best point, (some may consider it a con.) It means an end to people shoving mindless drivel down our throats, stuff like 'PS3 YEAH' or '360 FOREVER' would be gone, FOREVER. Mind you I would be sad to lose it simply because we'd lose a hot topic of debate and some genuinely good arguments from both sides of the system wars. (although by this point most the arguments are the same recycled points.

Con- One Console means that we are going to be short changed : No doubt about it, with one console dominating the market, there is no competition in prices; they can keep prices as high or as low as they want and we'd just have to accept it. That or move to PC gaming, which I love but the fact we need to upgrade hardware every 2 or three years just doesn't seem to add up for me, and although some may argue that we have to upgrade our consoles to the next model when they are released, they are far cheaper than a high end gaming pc is.

Con - With one console, it'll be aimed at the entire audience: Meaning that it loses its personality. Wii is known for being family orientated, 360 and ps3 being aimed at more mature, serious gamers, it also has games that kids can enjoy. If we have one console, it will never be able to develop an identity without upsetting everyone else; you'll find a lot of family orientated games being released, and heaps of mature games being released as well. Some of them being extremely generic as just to show that they have a wide range of games available, and not that they are looking for quality gaming as their overall aim. ( i realise this contradicts the 2nd pro, however it would sadly be another possibility)

Con - One online means that there will be lag and swearing a lot more, glitching, everything that you don't want in an online will be found more frequently. Simply because the online will be too large to moderate effectively and also servers will be too large to produce lag free gaming. SONTENSOFT would have to create either a bunch of small servers, which is high maintenance as they have to constantly monitor them and make sure everything is going swimmingly, but if they have a few large servers, lag will be a constant factor in every online game. One game that is a good example is Metal Gear Online, although usually ok, the lag can be so bad that MGO is unplayable.

Con - The gaming peripherals may not suit everyone, which can be remedied by releasing different control schemes for games, but after having the WII, PS3, and XBOX 360 out, everyone will want different control schemes to suit what they were used to. Sony fans will want the classic ps2/3 controller (dual shock 2/3) 360 users will want their controller to emulate the 360's, and the Wii users will want a Wiimote or something similar that uses motion sensors to play games with. This can be sorted by releasing different peripherals for the consoles, but then developers have to release extra control schemes for the PSWII60 and users have to go out and buy their preferred peripheral.

So there you go, a list of main pros and cons that i could think of.
Leave a comment if you can think of any other Pros or Cons, and let me know what you thought of the blog overall.

An Introduction of sorts
DanOConnor | 3:51 PM on 05.24.2009 23 comments

I'll occasionally browse the community pages on Destructoid and came across Camseyeview, he'd just made a blog (well copied a pasted it from another of his blogs) about Gungrave and some of the D'toiders let rip into him, and I quickly realised that although I use this website for news, if I ever wanted to become part of the community properly I was going to have to introduce myself. (thanks Magnalon, it was your blunt views about Camseyeview that made me realise this :D )

So Yeah here goes nothing, I'll try and get the boring stuff out the way and over and done with so from now on i'll contribute a more interesting read ( I Hope)

My Name is Dan O'Connor, I'm 16 and live in London.
I want to be a doctor when i'm older, however I'm currently in the process of coding a games news/Reviews website that hopefully won't be an epic fail.
In my spare time i usually end up playing Basketball with Lewisham Thunder (my coach there is Steve Bucknall, He played for the Lakers alongside Magic Johnson) or Boxing ( if any of you care i'm a Lightweight at the moment, however I Started off just heavier than a Featherweight and put on a few pounds.)
I play in a Pop Punk Band with a few mates, we've played a few gigs but nothing major (by major i mean paid ) :P

Gaming related stuff :

I own a Playstation 3 and a Wii, as well as a fairly average computer ( as far as playing games are concerned).
My favourite Game at the moment is Killzone 2, and First Person shooters tend to be the games i play the most.
My favourite haunts apart from destructoid tend to be Giantbomb, Sarcastic Gamer, Gamespot (mainly for the community) and Citizen game ( irish website with a bunch of irish dudes funnily enough)

Anyway that's a little bit about me, if any of you are interested about any aspect of what you just read (stalker) leave a question etc, i'm here all night...

Oh and by the way, does anyone else feel like when they make an introduction on a new website it starts feeling like you've filled out a dating website? (cept the gamer part, hate to admit it but telling girls i'm a gamer has not got me anywhere, even when i claim i've got great dexterity (oh dear...) due to Killzone and MGS4.

 about me

I play shooty games, nah erm really i play a lot of games, i dunno what to say. I have an annoying talent of being able to pick a game up straight away, the worst was completing a fight against the final boss the first time i had played it. Since then i haven't been allowed in that mates house.
I want to be a doctor, i say that it's because i want to help people, but truthfully it's because it'll make me rich enough to buy my very own roflcopter.

I play guitar, I go to a boxing club, and i play basketball.

also if you don't like samuel jackson your not a man in my book. that's right, i have a book of men . oh wait, that doesn't sound right.

Currently playing : Killzone 2, Fifa 08 aannnnnndd MGO, and BURNOUT PARADISE

Story of my life ^^^^

On a more serious note, i'm looking for a few writers who'd like to help out writing for a website. PM if your interested
