Jim Sterling is a video game fraud!
DanGale | 1:41 PM on 09.02.2008 23 comments

Now I’m not usually one to venture into the brick-laying, boob whistling depths of The Sun newspaper, Britain’s lowliest paper, but for some reason whilst at work, I picked up a copy laying around and found this tidbit of information. Apparently playing computer games can help you stay slim.

Now before we all cry the foul of the “casual gamer” and how Nintendo and Wii Fit have once again broken the masses, it wasn’t just ‘that exercise game’, as my Mother puts it that they were harking on about. They too mentioned Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty 3.

Apparently even sitting down twiddling a few thumbsticks will burn on average 40 per cent more calories than sitting doing nothing. The research team leader, Dr Alison McManus of the University of Hong Kong, said that, “Physically active video gaming may be part of the antidote to the poisonous growth of sedentary entertainment.”

Now whilst it’s just common sense than any activity at all is better than sitting on your fat one thus resulting in more calories being burnt, it was surprising to hear this out of The Sun newspaper that just trails The Daily Mail on video game hate.

However this begs the question: If video games like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto help you burn calories, then just what the fuck does Jim Sterling actually do with the games he buys, because he sure as hell ain’t playing them.

[Note: Sorry, Jim. I love you really.]

No wonder he hated Summer Athletics.

i tend to snack more when im playing games then when im not.. so i guess that's completely untrue for me. but even so, i don't think moving joysticks around really does THAT MUCH for you.

GuitarHero/Rockband are a work out in and of themselves for me.

Which goes to show that you can get exercise from a game that doesn't have waggle and Miis.

Also, I think Jim is beautiful just the way he is. Regardless or not if he eats his video games or actually plays them.

Thats not true sitting down burns 15 - 20 calories per hour. Stick that in your pipe.

This is bullcrap. I've been playing games all my life and I've gotten fatter with every year.

Maybe it has something to do with all those Hot Pockets...

I found it odd to see the Daily Fail running the same story themselves. I imagine its part an attempt by them to demonise exercise.
