About Me

Whats up Destructoid?
My name is Sean McLoughlin and I've been sent from the futurepast to march with my fellow robots to victory. For Niero!

My favorite games can be numerous (as I'm sure is true of most here at Dtoid), but my all time favorites are Final Fantasy VI, Diablo II, Bioshock, Braid, Demon's Souls and Metal Gear Solid. I never rent games and I rarely trade in or sell the games I buy so I have a pretty massive game collection. For the sake of space I'll just list the consoles and portables that I own: NES, SNES, Genesis, Game Gear, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Advance, Playstation, N64, Playstation 2 (one original which is broken and a Slim), Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, Neo Geo Pocket, Nintendo DS, Nintendo DSi, PSP 2000, Xbox 360 (red-ringed once), a fully backwards compatible Playstation 3 and a Wii.

When I'm not in school or gaming you can probably find me reading a science fiction/fantasy novel or an issue of Wired or some such. My favorite authors are George RR Martin, Terry Brooks, Garth Nix and Terry Goodkind. I'm also a big fan of movies, my favorites right now are The Departed, Smoking Aces and Crank, although my all time favorite movie/director is Reservoir Dogs/Tarantino. I don't watch much TV and if I do its usually Discovery channel or Science Channel. I love Professional Wrestling, Y2J SAVE US! My favorite band is obviously The Grateful Dead although my musical tastes are quite varied. I listen to everything from T.I. to Metallica to Toby Keith. Also, MC Chris FTMFW!

Bored? Why not try one of the games I've made:
Floyd's Tomb
Season of Thorns

Breaking up is hard to do [NVGR]

That's all she wrote folks. My relationship with my wonderful girlfriend is over. I've mentioned her in several other blogs (never by name), most notably in my most recent set-up blog. She said numerous times over the last month or so that I don't make her happy anymore and it's gotten to the point where I'm done trying to make her happy and I have to make the decision to move on. We've been on and off for the past while and this time it's official, we're done.

I'm shopping for a new apartment and it's looking like I'll end up in some shitty studio apartment until I can find something nicer. I should have listened to my mother and never moved in with this girl in the first place. Learn from my mistake and don't move in with someone until you're 100% sure it's right. We dated for a year before moving in together and even that wasn't enough time. Don't make the same mistake as me.

It's shameful, but I can't help but imagine how this will affect my gaming life. The HDTVs, PS3 and Wii are hers, so I'll be gaming on my old SDTV setup with only my 360 and older consoles. Not being able to play Boom Blox and Demon Souls is going to suck, but I still own the games, I just need new consoles. The question is, do I save up for a nicer TV first, or the consoles? Whatever I do, I'll have a new setup blog posted as soon as I can.

Sorry if this blog has been hard to read. I wrote it off the cuff and didn't change much while editing it. I'm in a sour mood as you can imagine, hence the lack of pretty pictures. You can expect a much better written and video games related post from me tomorrow. For now though, it's time for me to get back to apartment hunting. =(

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Dang shipero you're a dick.

So, is she available?

Also, an ex of mine got me a PSP for my birthday one time. I made sure it was a gift FOR ME. Makes it easier to keep that shit. I'm sorry for your loss though. Sucks about the girlfriend too.

Oh and I'd probably go for the HDTV first. Otherwise you'll keep putting money into more games and it'll take longer to get.

Damn, sorry dude. That sounded like a match made in gamer heaven. I would go with a better TV first, you can survive with the Xbox for a bit. Plus you can, you know...watch TV and stuff on it.

Like Falinter, I will fap this article not for its content, but for its author.

You're gon b k guy! Shit happens, we've all been there and it always gets better. Sounds like you will miss the consoles more than her anyway, so maybe it is for the best. ;)

So... I would head for the TV first. Nice TVs make everything better. Also, take a break from the ladies for a while and don't jump right into another relationship. Just focus on a little personal gaming and DaedHead time.

You should save up money and get a kick-ass TV during the Thanksgiving sales. Hopefully it'll mmake it easier to save up for the PS3.

@GoldenGamerXero

Awesome clip! And yeah, we're trying to be civil about everything. We're both hurting and we both still care about each other, she's just not happy and wants a change. I'm willing to give her that change, as much as it hurts me.

@Mag

Yeah, I feel hollow inside but I know I'm not really alone. I'll be able to cope.

@Steel Squirel

I moved out of my parents house at 17, I had a girlfriend then who I kept all the way until I was 20, when I met this last girlfriend, whom I've dated ever since (I'm 23 now). In other words, I've never been living on my own and single at the same time. Quite frankly, I'm kinda excited to see what it's like. The bachelor life sounds appealing.

However, I'm too much of a social butterfly to ignore the ladies completely, it will be a long time before I'm ready for a real relationship though.

So the girl that I am currently engaged to has been living with me ever since we found each other. I've never lived with a girlfriend before but this is my third relationship to last over a year and a half. It just happened the way it did and it was perfect. Sounds like you need someone more meaningful, fuck that bitch anyway. It's so lame when chicks pull the "You don't make me happy anymore." bullshit. You'll find someone better soon enough just hang in there. Hope you find a nice place and try to make the best of this situation. If you want to play Borderlands some day when you're all settled in to wherever you end up you should hit me up. My Gamertag is Affinitia.

Hey man, I feel you on that one. I was with the same girl for almost 10 years. From 16 to 25. Was even married for a few of those years. I'm 28 now and enjoying the single life quite a bit. There's plenty of time for serious stuff later. It is crazy being out there on your own after being with someone for so long, but it is also pretty damn exciting and fun. You're gonna have a real good time, buddy. ;)

It's ok, there's room in my cardboard box or you, I'm usually in the back alley behind the nice hotels, but tonight I'll probably be staying in the public parks bathroom. So... see you tonight?

Seriously though, good luck finding a place! Studio apartments aren't that bad if you're by yourself, so don't worry about it.

@Grafkhun

Studio apartments are ok, I've had one before. But I didn't have two cats back then, and it's them I'm mostly worried about. A studio apartment would drive them nuts. =\

All I need is a kitchen a bathroom and a place to put my vidya games. I'd be all set in a studio if it weren't for the kitties.

Listen to this? Maybe it will help put things in perspective?

One thing I can tell you for sure is that being a good looking, good natured, single guy at 23 can lead to some pretty god damn awesome times. Things may start feeling more fun for you sooner than you think.

At least, I hope so.

All I can say is that if it's not going to work in the long run, then you're better to move on to find that person that you know you'll be with for the rest of your life!

You'll be alright. Breaking up sucks. My ex and I were together for 6 years when it happened and it took a minute (read: ~778,000 of them) to get over it. Time is all you need bro. Also, I recommend the HDTV first, because SD gaming is bollocks when you've been spoiled. Since it's the more expensive of the two things you need to get, you'll suffer more while saving for the TV, but get to enjoy it while you save for the PS3.

You'll be good bro, there's many fish in the sea and chicks love a dude that's good with technology. Either that or there's plenty of hot video game ladies to fap to. :)

Just start saving money, and then impulse buy whatever you need further down the road. Though a nice HDTV will make-a the video game ladies much more fappable!

And I'll probably start hanging out in IRC a lot more once I'm settled in my new apartment. I'm looking forward to that.

@Ron

I trust that it will end up well. I found a pretty good deal on an apartment today so hopefully when I go look at it tomorrow it will be as nice as the property manager says it is. If it is I'll sign that lease and the healing will begin.
